Daves Top Tips Radiator Problems If you are having problems with your heating system, here are a few things to look out for that could be the cause. 1: Top of radiator cold, bottom hot. This is usually a result of air in the radiator that has risen to the top and is stopping any more hot water filling the radiator. It is cured by “bleeding off the air from the top of the radiator by opening the bleed nipple and allowing the air to escape If your radiators need constant bleeding then too much air is entering the system and the problem is a bigger one requiring a central heating engineer to have a look. 2: Top of radiator hot, bottom cold. Rust and sludge has probably built up in the bottom of the radiator and this will displace any water leaving the bottom of the radiator cold. Proprietary sludge removers can be used to clean systems through. Theses are on sale at all plumbers’ merchants but read the instructions before use. 3: Downstairs radiators hot, upstairs cold. This generally means that the feed and expansion tank in your loft has run dry which can indicate a problem with the valve. This needs addressing quickly and a change of valve is usually in order. This is not a huge job and, as long as you have turned off the water, is well within the capabilities of a DIY enthusiast. 4: Upstairs radiators hot, downstairs cold. This possibly indicates a faulty central heating pump and this should be checked by an engineer. Regards Dave Stevens. If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you. Disclaimer. All advice above is given in goodwill with many years experience. We cannot guarantee however that your problems will be rectified so please, if in doubt call us before undertaking any works yourself.

The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve, and Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher, there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey, Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him - as well as everyone around him - as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

XXX 3: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE After coming out of self-imposed exile, daredevil operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) must race against time to recover a sinister weapon known as Pandora's Box, a device that controls every military satellite in the world. Happy New Year! “All is quiet on New Year's Day A world in white gets underway…… Nothing changes on New Year's Day.” These are lines from the song ‘New Year’s Day’ by the group U2 released in 1983 and it could be said this was the real start of the groups spectacular career. Although the song is about Polish solidarity in the shadow of the Communist state, it reflects on a day many of us see as not just the start of a New Year. It is often the commencement of new resolutions on our life style, finances, maybe employment or even family circumstances. We make promises to ourselves and our new world view ‘gets underway’. Reality, however, is invariably different as ‘Dry January’ begins to get slightly damp after a few weekends, the ‘Christmas weight’ remains the same in February and once the credit card statement arrives, all financial planning is abandoned to the ‘let’s make it to the end of the month’ school of economics. So, the line ‘Nothing changes on New Year’s Day’ becomes slightly prophetic. Another song by the same group has the line ‘What no man can own, no man can take, take this heart and make it break’. May be this New Year we should resolve to change the way we view the world and those with whom we share it. May be this change in view will lead to changes to our circumstances, our generosity may affect our finances as we budget to give, our waste line changes as we check our consumption and our temper changes as we see people in a different light. Now maybe that’s a resolution worth keeping. St Philip and St James Church, Larkhay Road'

Silverdale WI We are a small friendly group meeting on the third Thursday of every month. Our meetings are held at the Methodist Church Hall Carisbrooke Road Hucclecote. The meeting starts at 10am and finishes at 12 noon. After a short business meeting we have coffee and then a speaker - the subjects covered are varied, ranging from the serious and educational to the frivolous for instance, next year we have a talk on the history of the Sue Ryder Home, a dance band and Frivolous hats to name but a few. We have just completed working for our chosen charity, The Greenfield Project, knitting blankets for children in Uganda, together with supplying them with shoes and tools. Our Book Club is thriving and is held once a month –members choosing a book each month. During the month of February when things get a little flat after the Christmas and New Year festivities we hold a luncheon, usually in a local restaurant – this is well attended by all our members. During early December we went to Cadburys Garden Centre and then on to Tyntesfield House which was decorated for Christmas. This year we celebrate our 10th anniversary and the committee are already making plans of how we can celebrate this occasion. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday 19th Januarywhen the subject of our talk is to be a talk by Pam Streeter on Dance Bands. We welcome visitors and hope they like us and join into this wonderful world of the Womens’ Institute. Hucclecote Scout News The Scout unit spent parts of several Scout meetings doing the First Aid badge. It is a staged badge and all the Scouts did the basic course and the older Scouts did extra work for the higher grade. We also divided into four groups, moving round to mapping and compass….observation activity….respiration on a dummy….and emergencies can happen. As usual at this time of year we spent an evening with each patrol making five types of sweets and displaying them to be judged. A very high standard, then the best bit, having to eat them all! The evening having to warm blank paper to show up the invisible writing and do the project written on it. We had a bowl of water for each patrol in case any caught fire (which several did!) We are all looking forward to the Scouts Christmas party, when we play very Scout traditional games (if you were in or helped in the past - it has not changed, but everyone enjoy it) We wish everyone a Happy New Year, please phone Terry on 521664 if you have children interested in Scouting.

Hucclecote Garden Club We closed the year with our November Members Evening held in the Community Centre. Members shared mince pies, coffee and tea, and took part in a Festive Quiz devised by one of our group. We held our last Raffle of 2016 and chatted generally about the various Speakers we had heard over the months. The final entertainment of the evening was presented by one of our Committee in the form of a Festive Musical Quiz, Christine played an assortment of Christmas Carols on the recorder, the titles of which had to be successfully guessed, it was a lot harder than expected, but one of our Members did manage to win first prize of a bottle of wine!! Our opening talk of the New Year is to be held on Thursday 26th January 2017, when we have Jon Mason from Highfield Nurseries coming along to speak on Fruit Trees. At the end of November, Hucclecote Garden Club was successful in securing a Small Sparks Grant from Barnwood Trust for a Planting Scheme for the Entrance area to the NHS Homeless Healthcare Team and Gloucester City Mission in Great Western Road (this building also houses the Gloucester Food Bank). Three of the Committee have made a site visit and plans are being drawn up for a suitable scheme which will provide a bright, welcoming area for those using the Homeless Healthcare Team and Gloucester City Mission. Anyone interested in gardening is welcome to come along to our talks which are held on the fourth Thursday of each month, 7.30pm in Hucclecote Community Centre. HUCCLECOTE TOWNSWOMENS GUILD When you read this we shall be preparing for 2017 and our last meeting for 2016 would have taken place. We would have returned from a Christmas Shopping Trip to Bath Christmas Markets, enjoyed our Christmas Social entertained by the Ukuele Group and sold crafts in aid of Comic Relief which all Guilds are supporting for the first time. Our speaker for the November meeting was Phil Collins, better known as Professor Collywobbles, who’s talk was entitled “The History of Punch & Judy”. The figure of Punch is derived from the Neapolitan stock character Pulcinella and Dame Joan is better known today as Judy. The first appearance in England was May 9th 1662 and an early version was performed in Covent Gardens . We were taken back to our early childhood by a short performance of the show and left the meeting light hearted. We now look forward to a New Year with a Lunch in January and a wide and varied list of speakers including Gloucester Ghost Walks,May Hill Apiary. Millie on Oil Painting and not forgetting “A Victorian Rector & Nine Old Maids” Do come along and meet us at one of our meetings which are held every third Thursday of the month at Hucclecote Community Centre at 7.30pm.
