Dave’s top tips Chalk Line For running dado rails through a hallway, or making a wallpaper border level round the room, an excellent tool to have in your kit is a chalk line. Simply mark a point on the wall at one end of the room by measuring from the ceiling or floor, and then do the same at the other. Hold the chalk line on both marks, lift it and let it go. "Ping". Also use this on horizontal surfaces to mark the floor when setting out for laying floor tiles or on the joists when laying floorboards. A chalk line can be used in almost any situation where a dead straight line is required. If you are on your own, then knock in a small tack or nail on your first mark and loop the end of the chalk line over it. Hold it tight on the second mark and ping. Regards Dave Stevens. If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you. Disclaimer. All advice above is given in goodwill with many years experience. We cannot guarantee however that your problems will be rectified so please, if in doubt call us before undertaking any works yourself.

As if creating the perfect holiday for their families isn't hard enough, they'll have to do it while hosting and entertaining their own respective mothers when they come to visit. Murder on The Orient Express A lavish trip through Europe quickly unfolds into a race against time to solve a murder aboard a train. Hucclecote Scout News The Father and sons / daughters camp at Cranham went well with over 100 in camp, starting with a short night trail through the woods. Saturday was a treasure hunt on Look Out (small hill near site), and in the afternoon we all made twists (dough on a stick) and cooked them on their own small fires. This was followed by toffee apples and games on the Scout field and then the camp fire when the rest of the family came along. A torch game in the woods ended the very active day. Sunday we had a short Scouts Own (few prayers and childrens hymns), then over the road to Daniels Grove for games on the stream. A very good camp which I think every one enjoyed and will come next year to the 40th Camp. Halloween will be over by the time ou read this, but we hope for a dry night. The Scout meeting was based on Halloween with a sleep over and more games. We had to close Tuesday Cubs a few years ago due to lack of Cubs and Leaders. I am pleased to say with 2 Beaver Units full with a waiting list it means over 15 going into Cubs each year (they also have a waiting list). These will not filter through to Scouts for 3 years, which means the Cubs who already have 40 members will be swamped with even 7 Leaders. If we could start Tuesday Cubs again, everyone who wanted to join Cubs could. If you are a past Scout or feel you would like to try helping with Cubs (Age 8 to 10) please phone John on 612477 for more details or call in a Scout Meeting on a Friday (7pm till 9pm) when he will be there. Yours in Scouting - Terry
Tuesday @ Two What is it? A social gathering where you can meet your own friends (or make new ones); if you like playing games (Canasta, Scrabble, Rummy Cub) these are available or bring your favourite game with you. The afternoon finishes with home made cake and a cup of tea.
Where is it held? In the Church Centre, behind the church in Larkhay Road 2 - 4 pm
Is there a charge? A donation of ÂŁ1.50 to cover the cost of cake and tea would be appreciated
When does the group meet? Fortnightly - November 7th & 21st - December 5th & 19th
Hucclecote Garden Club We were fortunate to have the expertise of Jon Mason who has worked at Highfield Nurseries for some 22 years, talking on the subject of Fruit Trees. Jon briefly recounted the history of Highfield Nurseries, from a time when their trees went all over the country via the railway at Gloucester Station, to more modern times when sales from other merchandise and the very successful restaurant, are greater than sales from plants. Jon has been asked to give a talk specifically on the History of Highfield, but at the moment is too busy with family and business commitment at Highfield to embark on this, but we look forward to hearing what should be a fascinating story. Robert Bryant from Stroud is paying us a visit with his talk on 'A year-long Walk in Woodchester Park, Gloucestershire', with photographs taken throughout the year to illustrate the flora, fauna and landscape of this unique valley owned by the National Trust. Mr. Bryant re-trained as a garden designer at Pershore College and worked in this field until 2014. He has also worked as a Garden Guide for The Prince of Wales at Highgrove. We finish off the year in November with our Members Evening, an evening of minse pies, Christmas music and Christmas craft. All are welcome to come along to this fun evening. We meet on the fourth Thursday of the month at 7.30pm at Hucclecote Community Centre, please come along. Further details from Joy on Gloucester 553185 or Sue on Gloucester 543573. Our speakers in September were Margaret and Eugene Schellenberg and they gave us a talk on ‘The Ifakara Bakery Project’. The bakery is a lifeline for the people of Ifakara (Africa) as the weather affects the harvest and without the bread many people would go hungry, the whole scheme relies on donations. The talk was well attended and very interesting. We have booked to go to ‘The Event house’ in Worcester in November, where we will have a luncheon and a cabaret. Our speaker for November at our meeting will give us an insight into a ‘Danish Christmas’, hopefully without the snow. Lots of things to look forward to in the coming months. The Larkhay WI meets at the Hucclecote Community Centre on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7.30pm. Phone Beverley on 01452 613208 or Ellen on 01452 611976 for more information. Or if you feel that you would like to come along, just pop in and you would be made very welcome

HUCCLECOTE TOWNSWOMENS GUILD The Guild meets at the Hucclecote Community Centre on the third Thursday each month, at 7.30pm. At each meeting we have a speaker or demonstration, a raffle, the "Bring and Buy" sales table, refreshments and the chance to chat and socialise. Forthcoming speakers include Pam Browning on Cake Decoration just in time for some Christmas inspiration! - and the Christmas Social. We also have a trip to the St John's Players to look forward to, the Inter-Guild Quiz, and a shopping trip to Cardiff. Our most recent speaker was Louise Millin Inchley, a member of the Cheltenham Guild of Artists, who exhibits her work in Cheltenham, London and the South of France. Louise told us how, following gaining a Degree in Art, she worked in interior design, travelling to Florida and Singapore, before returning to Cheltenham. Whilst she talked, Louise painted a Cheltenham street scene in oils, and it was fascinating to watch a beautiful piece of artwork appear before our eyes. Guests and visitors are always welcome at Guild meetings. Phone Linda on 617701 for more information, or just come along! Please mention
