T
here are many magnificent talented up and coming designers in New York. One in particular that really made me take a double look was mike Vinsel. He premiered his Spring Summer collection at the trendy lounge SLATE, down town. I didn’t know much about him at first. A co-worker of mine approached me around 5oclock that day “hey! I’m not going to be able to make this show I am swamped with work, would you like to so?” So she forwarded me the invite, and I headed downtown to the trendy lounge SLATE. The venue was dark and seductive and just perfect for his debut. I got to Slate about ten minutes before the show started. A gentleman named Erick sat down next to me and made some small talk. He was quite dapper if I do say so myself. He was wearing all black and his trousers were tailored to perfection. He asked me where I was from and how I heard about this designer. I told him the truth, “I don’t know too much about Mike Vinsel to be rather honest. My friend at work couldn’t make it last minute; she asked me if I would like to go in place of her, so here I am.” He laughed acceptingly. He told me he owns an advertising and marketing firm and he’s also very good friends with the designer. So he opted to tell me a little about mike. He said his work is wonderful and such a work of art, he works hard on his designs and supports his work. The lights dimmed down and the show began. The mood was futuristic with a
romantic feel. His garments fit the mood so effortlessly. His gowns lavished in rousing, with flawless colors of pastel pinks, yellows and purples. Avant-guard metallic shoes really set it over the top! Some designs were sleek and simple while others made some ravishing jawdropping statements. Hair worked rather well with the garments and makeup kept simple with a touch of glow. This “mister dapper” perception of Mike Vinsel was on the spot. He couldn’t have prepped me better for what I was in store to see. Vinsel’s collection was truly a work of art. What I loved most was his fearless use of color which I thought was rather daring. His designers truly tells a story and kept mind imagination flowing. From the mood of the venue, to his collection I really felt like I was taken to another world dimension. That’s how I know when a designer is worth taken a double look at, when his or her work captures some part of your inventive mind. As for “Mr. dapper” he bought me a cocktail and he asked what I thought “Well...” I said, “That was truly something else; you couldn’t have described Vinsel’s work any better.”
