[from our COO & commitee Chair]
ON behalf of the Lovett Board of Trustees and the Operations staff, we would like to thank you for your support of Lovett this year. The generosity of our entire community provides critical additional support beyond our budgets for campus improvements and capital projects that enhance our ability to deliver on our mission. Last year, more than ever, your gifts were vital to our ability to open our campus in August and keep school running smoothly through May. We cannot thank you enough.
The Lovett School’s Pandemic Response Plan was a collaborative effort with representation from the Board of Trustees, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), infectious disease experts, medical and business professionals, industrial hygienics experts, and other stakeholders. Our primary focus was to address the health and safety procedures that the school implemented and the responsibilities of the school and its community members during the COVID-19 pandemic. Your gifts helped fund these efforts: • Screening procedures and protocols for anyone exhibiting
COVID-19 symptoms; • Prevention practices, including hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, mandatory face masks, and social distancing; • Cleaning, disinfection, ventilation, and facilities updates; • Management and the supervision necessary to ensure effective implementation of the plan; and communications and instructions to the school community. Collaboratively working with the Finance and Building and Grounds Committees of the Board, Lovett funded over $1.5 million for improvements and additional resources to implement the pandemic response plan, bringing teachers, staff, and students back to campus as safely as possible. A large part of that investment was made in capital projects that will remain on campus and continue to provide benefits for our students and the school. Some of those measures include:
• An HVAC strategy that entailed cleaning and sanitizing all air handling units on campus and working in consultation with a mechanical engineer to update filtration packages and maximize outdoor air supply and ventilation across campus. • Restroom improvements such as upgraded exhaust ventilation in all locations; converting plumbing fixtures to hands-free devices, and installing foot operable hardware at all entrances. • Reducing contact points across campus by installing 14 automatic doors at high-traffic entrances, adding occupancy motion detection sensors for lighting in all classrooms, as well as retrofitting water fountains to accommodate bottle fillers.
• Measures to allow for social distancing such as additional tables for classrooms to convert seating from individual desks to CDC recommended configurations, as well as tents and infrastructure for outside seating for classwork, meetings, and dining.
