LOVETT WHY
Our work differs from that of other A tlanta schools in its purposes, its methods, and its philosophy. O ur emphasis is upon the individual child- their personality, their needs. The development of their varied abilities, their character, their personality, and their satisfactory adjustment are our chief concern.,,
Eva Edwards Lovett FounderAt Lovett, whole child education has been the foundation of our curriculum from the School’s beginning in 1926. Our founder, Eva Edwards Lovett, was an innovative educator who envisioned an intentionally different way to learn—where children learn by doing and are taught how to think instead of what to think. Her approach was “to teach children to think for themselves, to recognize a problem and think it through, to develop their judgment, to decide for themselves, to accept responsibility.”
Nearly 100 years later, Lovett is advancing whole child education with an emphasis on learning by doing joyfully. Through purposeful hands-on classroom opportunities, community experiences, and service learning, our students balance intellectual rigor with character development, relationship building, and self-discovery. We center the needs of our students beyond traditional academics, motivating them to develop the intellect and confidence to thrive in school and in life.
At Lovett, our mission is to be a community of belonging that grows students of honor, faith, and wisdom with the character and intellect to thrive in learning and life. Guided by inspiring faculty, coaches, and administrators, our students learn through our mission every day. They live it through purposefully designed experiences. And they love the opportunities a Lovett education offers.
Every morning, we have the pleasure of welcoming 1,640 students to our riverbank campus for a new day of learning, joy, and possibility. We do not take this responsibility lightly, and we constantly challenge ourselves to provide the best educational environment possible. It is a privilege to offer Lovett’s distinctive, whole child education to every student, ensuring they are supported and provided with intellectual rigor, social-emotional learning, and character development opportunities.
WHO LOVETT IS Intellect Purpose
Lovett’s core values of Intellect, Purpose, Belonging, Faith, and Love are the foundation of what we believe and do as an institution and a community.
Through these pages, you’ll experience what it means to be a Lovett Lion as our students share how they live each day through our core values.
Purpose Belonging Faith Love
INTELLECT
As our founder stated, a Lovett education “is education which is progressing continually in order to keep up with the constant changes occurring in the world around us. It is a changing education for a changing civilization.” Our world is ever-changing and the manner in which we teach children is evolving, but Lovett’s mission of preparing students to thrive in learning and in life is enduring.
By design, faculty offer experiences that inspire our students to love learning, encouraging them to think critically, communicate effectively, engage creatively, and collaborate purposefully.
We value intellect as a lifelong pursuit of the cognitive, social, and emotional skills required to thrive in an increasingly complex world.
Lovett is an encouraging and loving place that supports me as I continue to learn. When I step foot in my favorite class, science, I know that I can really LET MY MIND GO WILD with all of the hands-on experimenting we do. I have learned to take pride in my classes and to be confident in myself and the things I love learning about!”
KATE Confident artist, outside-of-the-box thinker, scientist, violinist, Service Council member, and self-love advocateThe way I learn continues to expand while also going BEYOND THE CLASSROOM at Lovett. I have seen my art projects move from our hallway galleries to the High Museum of Art’s galleries, and I have learned that the problem-solving techniques we use in math can be applied to much more than math class!”
— KINLEYDancer, violinist, and Service Council member; a peer who loves helping her classmates tackle math problems
Engaging in class discussions while tackling open-ended questions, using meetings to build relationships with my teachers, and trying new activities and classes to determine my interests have all built an environment made of students and teachers who further my learning every single day.”

Member of the state champion wrestling program, the first flutist to be added to the Honors Jazz Band, and a future engineer who finds philosophy classes to be invigorating
The Upper School has taught me a lot about the POWER OF PARTICIPATION .
Our school mission calls on us to develop students who will thrive in learning and in life, and to foster global citizens who are committed to improving our school, our city, our society, and our world. We provide the opportunities and resources that help our students develop independence and self-direction and extend their learning beyond the walls of the classroom as they grow intellectually, emotionally, physically, aesthetically, morally, and spiritually. We prepare our students to think and act with empathy as responsible global citizens in an increasingly diverse landscape.
PURPOSE
We value purpose as the source of motivation for learning, the discovery of self, and the foundation of a meaningful life.
Every year, I learn so much—academically, about my character, and about who I am—and I strive to apply that learning BEYOND THE CLASSROOM . Whether I am using what I have learned in Spanish class to connect with someone while serving at my local food bank, or making sure that my passion for mock trial continues in Upper School by creating a club, I hope to find more ways to relate the continued learning that I have at Lovett to other areas of my life.”
— CARSON Actor, freestyle and backstroke swimmer, and future competitive mock trial team memberEducation is a runway towards the rest of your life. You’re responsible for setting yourself up for a destination of success. One of the greatest things I have learned at Lovett is the ‘power of yet,’ which means that the space between now and achieving your goals is THE BELIEF
YOU
HAVE IN YOURSELF and your hard work between now and the finish line.”
— SAAHIR
A math equation enthusiast and student excited to challenge himself with unique and accelerated math and science courses; eager to try a new hobby by joining the fishing club
As I approach my final years at Lovett, I want to apply my full self to all of my commitments— in and out of the classroom. I look forward to taking more of the niche science classes that Lovett offers to continue growing my exposure to different future career pathways. Exploration is the only way to FIND YOUR PASSIONS .”
— ALAYSIA
Volleyball player, history and culture enthusiast, and gymnast; thoroughly enjoys joining clubs that combine service opportunities and creating community
As an inclusively Christian school, we are a community rooted in love and belonging for all, with a profound respect for diversity, service to others, and moral awareness. We believe that we are richer given the unique and individual identities within our Lion family, and together, we strive to be an evermore compassionate, empathetic, and loving community.
BELONGING
We value belonging in a diverse community where all members feel connected, included, supported, and respected.
Lovett feels like home to me. I’m surrounded by what I call my EXTENDED FAMILY while I’m at school. These halls are so much more than a place for learning. My advice for any student is to treat others the way you would like to be treated. You will find your friends, and those friends will feel like family.”

belonging
The word I would use to describe my time at Lovett is “pride.” I am proud of the many areas of the school that I participate in across the arts, athletics, and different clubs. Each is very unique and gives me a well-rounded experience.
Throughout every area of my Lovett journey, the people around me have made me feel SUPPORTED, WELCOMED, AND KNOWN .”
— GRACE
Lead actress in Willy Wonka, varsity volleyball libero and team captain, and Girl Talk club leader; excited to serve and lead underclassman through their Lovett experience
We value faith as the foundation of spiritual and moral values that lead to ethical decision making and perseverance in the face of challenge.
Lovett welcomes, celebrates, and honors students of all different faiths and backgrounds. We value and encourage a sense of responsibility to our faith identity, respect for diversity, service to others, and moral awareness. We expect our graduates to be people of honor and faith, striving to do what is right at all times.
Being a part of the Israel trip this past summer was truly a life-changing experience. I had never left the country, but my parents and their families have all been to Israel before. When I got to the Western Wall, I felt so connected to my family and my faith. The same feeling exists when I’m at Lovett. From the time I joined the school in sixth grade, I felt the same sense of WELCOME AND BELONGING amongst my classmates, teachers, in my classrooms, and in my faith.”
ELLA
Three-season athlete (cross country, cheerleading, and track) and a member of the Service Board. Mentors ninth grade students through the Peer Advisor Leadership group and Middle School girls through the Girl Talk club
I appreciate learning about and studying faith at Lovett. In Rev. Wade Reck’s class, we learned about different faiths and then explored their places of worship throughout Atlanta. This way of learning exposed our class to OTHER RELIGIONS AND BELIEFS through study and conversation with others.
I enjoyed having a deeper lens into not only my own faith practice, but those that my peers may practice and relate to in their own lives.”
SEAN
Tight end and defensive end who loves playing football in Kilpatrick Stadium, mathematician who enjoys discovering new ways to solve different problems, and first and third baseman for Lovett baseball
We value love to cultivate joyful learning, strong character, and a compassionate, healthy community.
Because we love and honor all of each child, Lovett students feel known, seen, and safe to take risks, learn from challenges, and carefully think through important questions of faith and citizenship. As a result, they develop the joyful resilience to thrive—in their time with us, in college and career, and in life itself.
When I think about my teachers, each of them has taught me to LOVE LEARNING . They are the people who make Lovett feel like a family to me. My teachers have great energy, are kind, and they let us be ourselves. One of the most valuable lessons they have taught me is to always do my best, while staying true to who I am.”

The greatest lesson I have learned in the classroom and on the field is not being afraid to learn from what you have been doing, pivot, and make a change to better yourself. Lean on your teammates, classmates, coaches, and teachers.
THIS COMMUNITY IS YOUR FAMILY and will always support you in moments of strength and moments of challenge.”
