President Marcos then said, “Effective today, all POGOs are banned," legislators and guests stood up and cheered for POGO being banned by the president

The president ordered the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), along with the help of economic managers,

She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to teachers, nonteaching staff, Local Government Unit (LGU), and private stakeholders for their

for the improvement of the education system, ensuring the rights and well-being of the teachers and learners are strictly being followed and protected

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who is the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Basic Education, described Duterte’s resignation as a “big loss,” emphasizing that her leadership had been instrumental in aligning the DepEd’s programs and policies in “one direction ”

PBBM responds to VP Sara Duterte’s alarming behavior in Philippine politics

President Bongbong Marcos Jr addressed Vice President Sara Duterte’s recent outburst during an online press briefing on November 25, 2024. In the briefing, VP Duterte made inappropriate remarks targeting three highranking officials: President Marcos, First Lady Liza Marcos, and Presidential Spokesperson Martin Romualdez Her comments sparked public speculation and criticism

In a statement, she also threatened that if she were to be killed, she would retaliate by having President Marcos assassinated This declaration raised serious concerns about her judgment

and conduct in her role as vice president In response, President Marcos condemned her threats, stating,

“If planning to assassinate a president is that easy, how much more for ordinary citizens? Such a criminal attempt should never be tolerated I will strongly oppose it ”

He emphasized the importance of transparency, asserting,

“The truth should not be silenced ”

The fallout from VP Duterte’s remarks has led to increased calls for her impeachment, with three complaints already filed against her As tensions escalate, the public is demanding accountability and clarity regarding her actions and their implications within Philippine politics

enator Robin Padilla filed a bill on July 15, 2024, aimed at fulfilling the 1987 Constitution’s directive to prohibit political dynasties

Article II, Section 26 of the 1987 Constitution shows that "the state shall guarantee equal access to opportunities for public service, and prohibit political dynasties as may be defined by law

"Given that this measure complies with the legislature's mandate to enact an anti-political dynasty law and is a step towards leveling the playing field in politics and governance, the passage thereof is earnestly sought," the senator stated Padilla cited a dataset of

Philippine local elections from 1988 to 2019, showing that dynasties or governors with at least one relative in the office increased from 39% in 1988 to almost 80% in 2019

Meanwhile, the percentage of mayors in dynasties rose gradually from 26% to 53% in the same time period

“Political dynasties, in effect, have exhausted resources to attain economic and political dominance while at the same time compromising political competition and undermining accountability ” he argued

The measure also provides that candidates may face petition for disqualification before the Comelec on grounds of political dynasty

"It is time to break the barriers preventing the best and the brightest from serving the Filipino people " Padilla added Padilla emphasized the importance of removing said dynasties as it hinders the most qualified individuals from serving the country truthfully and righteously Past attempts to amend or enforce the 1987 Constitution’s anti-dynasty provision have been unsuccessful

When the Catch Isn’t Worth the Fight

The constant survival struggle gets overlooked in a world filled with power displays and territorial conflicts For the Filipino fishers who rely on the West Philippine Sea for income, the geopolitics’ effects is not just a concept in textbooks, it is something they grapple with every day The act of fishing, which was once a great source of pride and success for most, now poses rich danger to life, making several families hover around the poverty line.

Those fishermen have given their lives and years to become experts in these waters that for generations have helped feed their families But foreign vessels now seem to be usurping their waters, and that sea that at one time filled them with hope is now some hostile frontier Do you envision days spent sailing back to the shore with the nets empty? It's a reality that brings heavy weights onto their hearts and minds

What is even more frustrating is that the plight of these fishermen gets lost in broader discussions about national security and international relations Why is their struggle sidelined?

This lack of attention underscores a very important oversight: The voices of those most affected by these conflicts are often drowned out by the noise of political maneuvering We need to bring these stories to a greater level of acknowledgment, especially concerning the human costs that come along with these political tensions This is why, for the fishermen, the government must ensure proper action regarding the fulfillment of their needs: implementing protection for rights, offering necessary financial aid, and developing long-term fishing approaches The day has finally arrived when politicians have to take attention away from their distant conflicts to focus on grass-roots issues But such support being withdrawn puts many family livelihoods in jeopardy from being swept by the waves of change

It would be absurd, of course, to present such a picture of hopelessness But what makes the stories of fishermen also tragic is not only the inability to survive but that it tells them the strength of their resolve and will There are teachers and advocates who understand the importance of these struggles and work tirelessly to amplify the voices However, this needs

to grow The stories of these fishermen are worth telling-not as victim accounts but as stewards of our marine resources and guardians of our cultural heritage While pondering upon the obstacles faced by the fishermen, it is crucial to state that the purpose of creating awareness is more than simply invoking compassion but is about standing in support of those who work as fundamental cogs in the economy and society If we want for their voices to be heard, action needs to be taken From advocating for more effective policies to simply aiding fishing communities, every action is important

So where do we go from here? Now the burden is on all of us to push for this to be a matter of public concern Let us make their stories part of the national narrative-a testimony to the strength and resilience shown by those who face the harshest realities with valiant determination We must act before it is too late; otherwise, their struggle could become but another footnote in the annals of history, drowned out by the political currents that threaten their way of life

All things considered, this might look inconsequential to the great challenges we, as a

nation, face, but like every ripple, it can lead to something far greater The consumers remain bafflingly unaware of the tremendous cost our fishermen are paying This is the time for us to come together and transform the silent struggles of our fishermen into a powerful movement of justice and equality We ought to now support them more for the solid protection of their fishing rights, demand government support for their livelihood, and demand that there be sustainable practices that respect the role given to them as guardians of our seas It is high time for community voices, awareness campaigns, and local leaders to stand firm Fighting for our fishermen also means fighting for the future of our nation This is the shared responsibility in which people ensure their survival, and together, they create waves of change that resonate far beyond the shores

Sick System

BridgingtheGap

The Philippine healthcare system is a blend of government and private e ntities, which is a tension over unresolved issues re lated to the health care service Add to that, the nurse basis that has been known from the past can be seen still today in the Philippines Because there are more advanced job opportunities waiting for the qualified personnel outside the country, skille d professionals from the health sector, especially nurses look for jobs abroad

Even though PhilHealth managed to make efforts for the improvement of the health insurance and to implement this measure in unused areas, it still has to face another essential problem of financing the health systems

A Dangerous Game

The latest tension in the West Philippine Sea is not just an "issue" Besides, all this information and news has caught the citizen's eye and it influences public opinion and political agendas. And most of what we hear is exaggerated like it was designed to manipulate our decisions and perceptions

The constant spread of alarming news creates unnecessary fear and distracts us from focusing on the main issue, not to mention how people can easily believe information on the internet without consulting It's time to critically examine these narratives and understand their impact on our daily lives

IThough private medical facilities can help people with the services required for immediate health solutions, there are plenty of Philippine citizens that can barely afford private services.

The Universal Health Care Law of 2019 comes with a plan to address the situation thus providing for making the status of health e mployees permanent hence retaining them in the Philippines Telemedicine, the diagnosis and treatment of patients by means of telecommunications technology, can also play a great role in addressing the issues encountered in healthcare access delivered by patients, particularly those in far-flung areas To reduce the brain drain and strengthen health systems through technology, de veloping a strong and inclusive health workforce by giving them permanent posts and implementing new technologies is critical

Media reports have largely focused on military activities and confrontations in the region, amplifying fears of conflict However, it's essential to question the accuracy of these reports and consider who benefits from spreading such fear Certain groups use these exaggerated stories to justify military spending, security measures, or political actions that might not otherwise gain public support

This misdirection pulls focus away from the economic and social challenges that need addressing

Wondering Alice

The constant talk of conflict impacts the mental well-being of communities, leading people to worry about their safety and homes This state of fear can push citizens to support aggressive policies that might escalate tensions further Moreover, the economic fallout from this fear scares away investors, affects livelihoods, and creates a cycle of anxiety that weakens society Distrust grows within communities, making unity and progress on critical issues more difficult

While there are genuine concerns about territorial rights in the West Philippine Sea, not all threats are as immediate as portrayed Diplomacy and cooperation remain the best ways to resolve conflicts, and it is vital for both the government and media to

While these findings are deeply concerning, we must approach the case carefully Late birth registrations, although unusual, are not unheard of in the Philippines, particularly in rural areas However, the Mayor s lack of transparency fuels further suspicion If the allegations are true, this case exposes significant flaws in the country’s identity verification systems, which could be exploited by those in power

A Danerous Game controversial mayor Hontiveros revealed a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance belonging to a woman named Alice Leal Guo, who shares the same name, birthdate, and birth province as the current Bamban Mayor This Alice Leal Guo applied for the clearance just days before the Mayor filed a late birth registration in 2005 The suspicious timing of these two events has raised serious questions Senator Hontiveros’ findings suggest a possible case of identity theft, potentially implicating the Mayor in a scandal that could lead to legal

Words that Wound

Disrespect in the Chamber

The derogatory manner of politician Harry Roque in talking to Senator Risa Hontiveros when it comes to consultation during the Senate session has raised even greater criticism for the lack of respect in their discourse Open economic debate calls for mutual respect between the parties Official wrongdoing is not only a distraction from the main issue, but also a lowering of the acceptable standard of speech This behavior is unnerving and shows a real problem with the lack of effective and civilized political

communication Roque, in particular, as a public figure, has an influence on how they are viewed by the public since disrespectful behavior can destroy their reputation It is essential to have faith in political leaders, and unprofessional conduct can cause the public to distrust their competence in responsible talks Seriousness is needed to guide the talks and to guarantee the reliability of the political process

In any public debate, especially those involving key national matters, it is crucial that every figure maintains mutual respect The way Roque

expressed his feelings diminished the authenticity of the discussion and also created a distraction for the public that led them not to comprehend properly the issues involved

The leaders in politics should be the ones who provide good examples of civility, they should be aware that their behavior is a big part of the level of faith the people have in the political process

The stakes are high, and the question remains: where is the real Alice Guo?

As investigations proceed, the need for justice and the truth behind this identity scandal must prevail, not only for the sake of public trust but also to protect the integrity of the system

The importance of civil and comprehensible communication in political discourse cannot be underestimated When politicians use offensive, personal attacks as their go-to tool for combating opponents, they betray their responsibility to the public, distract from serious talks, and in fact, damage the efficacy of their solutions for common welfare

enator Robin Padilla recently sparked a significant public debate during his Senate Hearing about sexual harassment with comments suggesting that the marital sex shouldn’t be classified as “rape” due to marriage bond Because of his remarks, it raised serious concerns about his understanding when it comes to consent within marriage, resulting in widespread criticism from women’s rights advocates

However, Padilla issued an apology, highlighting his support to women’s rights and the importance of consent, even in marital relationships

Padilla’s comments reflect a

Aconcerning misinterpretation that once married, asking for consent was no longer needed

This notion contradicts the main principles that consent must be ongoing and can be rejected anytime, regardless of marital status His comments weaken his understanding of the importance of asking permission Other than that, it points to the main issue of our country that the necessity of consent in sexual relations within marriage are often being overlooked

Public figure’s influence is important since their statements can change societal attitudes towards sensitive issues like sexual rights And he failed to use an informed

and respectful language leading to misunderstandings by many about the consent, especially in marital relationships

The incident shows that we need more informed discussions related to sexual rights and the main purpose of consent, highlighting that misinterpretations can highly contribute to the stigma surrounding the victims of marital rape

Furnishing a Slab of Wood with Different Sandpaper

Moreover, the incidents also threatens the importance of education and awareness for the public figures on topics related to sexual harassment and consent Padilla’s statement emphasizes the gap in understanding that could discourage the victims from seeking their justice Aside from all this, it is important for the public figures to engage with experts and ensure that discussions in sensitive topics like this are still addressed with accuracy and respect, encouraging more informed dialogue on sexual rights and responsibilities

s it has been said over and over again, change is the only thing constant in this world.

May it be the fine little details in our liver or the major ones that affect an entire population, change is everywhere Even in government, people who are elected only have a specific time on when they will be seated The same thing applies in school settings

Administration shifts from time to time as well but the difference here is they do it year after year after year. If this is how they plan to do things, can we really expect furnished results if we're changing sandpaper ever so of

TContinual changes in principalship lead to difficulty in long-term planning, as each new successor must try and stabilize the school from years of revolutions by starting fresh with implemented programs that are based on their vision

A Danerous Game

This pattern raises potential questions about whether schools can accomplish longterm growth if they continue to change direction like a compass

The problem is that the leadership does not manage change, perhaps because they have to deal with teachers from different statuses, and even worse blows their morale which the leaders of leaders are so hard at work on

These changes likewise affect students, who are left to

negotiate their way and sometimes struggle through the educational atmosphere created by these amorphous policies As soon as staff are comfortable with one set of rules or expectations, an incoming administration might change what they need to do

This instability causes a school as a whole to suffer greatly hindering its overall progress and success.

If we truly want to see noticeable development in our school, we should put an emphasis to the impact of continuity

New leadership may offer a new vision, save the personnel from stagnating, and bring in new ideas A new principal may have some new practices that could put itself in a better standing compared to other science high schools Continuity nevertheless, is essential for sustainable development Public officials can serve longer terms; why not educational leaders?

This stability in administration would free up everyone to do their best and lead the school where it most needs to improve and grow

Tightening the Already Tight Timetable

hese past school years have felt rushed because of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) decision to revert to the old school calendar ever since COVID-19 broke out. However, now that the 2025 election ban is almost in effect, how will schools handle the ever-shrinking amount of time left?

The anticipation of the 2025 election ban created a chain of simultaneous activities rushed for students in November and December examples being the Division Festival of Talents (DFOT), Division School Press

Conference (DSPC), Regional Climate Change Caravan (RCCC), and Regional Science and Technology Fair (RSTF)

How do you expect students to perform well when more activities are dumped into their already tight schedule?

When students are overwhelmed by continuous school work, they lose focus,

leading to mistakes and poorquality work

Not only does it affect our grades, but also our mental health The overscheduled students experienced stress and sleepless nights as academic and extracurricular activities were merged The constant work without breaks led many students to feel burnout, a state of emotional, mental, and physical

exhaustion Being pressured to do well in these school activities also makes me think that I should prioritize grades over actual learning, limiting my potential to develop a

ournalism is all about truth, accuracy, and fairness. However, the recent Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) in San Juan City reveals troubling cracks in these foundations The competition that should have showcased the talents of aspiring young journalists was overshadowed by unethical practices and disregard for basic journalistic principles. If this issue remains the same, how can journalists learn the importance of showing integrity when the very competition they participate in weakens it? Rather than showing genuine talent and skill, concerns about the fairness of the competition have been raised Unethical behavior, favoritism, and other factors break the main purpose of journalism These issues may weaken the competition’s credibility and send the wrong message to the journalists: that recognition might not always align with hard work and honesty It’s disappointing that the fairness in these competitions is slowly fading

The platform should inspire young journalists to continue holding onto the truth instead, it somehow leaves them to question themselves if their efforts will be overshadowed by dishonest practices

genuine passion for new knowledge

While school-related activities are crucial for academic growth, enough rest is just as important The anticipation of an election ban should already call for a balancing of schoolworks earlier on Unfortunately, we just have to reflect from this unpleasant period and make a more spread-out school year in order for both students and teachers to thrive in what they do best, whether or not having an election ban, for the greater good

DSPC should reflect the main ideals of journalism accountability, honesty, and focusing on keeping the people’s eyes on what’s the truth

DSPC is more than a competition– it’s a platform to shape journalists of integrity Let’s restore its honor and inspire young journalists to excel with dignity, integrity, and a commitment to the truth

At first glance, having utilities on every floor of San Juan City Science High School seems like a step toward convenience However, when these utilities are unclean, they become a source of distress rather than comfort Instead of promoting ease, they highlight neglect not of individuals, but of systems failing to prioritize cleanliness

Dirty restrooms, polluted classrooms, and littered spaces are more than just unpleasant; they pose health risks How can students focus on learning when their environment hinders their well-being? Basic needs become challenges, and academic performance is affected

The problem is not the presence of dirt but the lack of a commitment to cleanliness. This isn’t about blaming anyone but recognizing that a clean environment reflects a school’s values

In San Juan City Science High School, December is the month where ‘ChristmaSaya’ is celebrated, a Christmas-based event which has many different contests As this suggests, preparations are to be made, but how prepared can you be if the instructions are changed at the latter portion of the month?

How can students learn discipline and responsibility in an environment that doesn’t model these principles?

Empowering students to take ownership of their surroundings is key Through initiatives like hygiene discussions and clean-up drives, responsibility can be cultivated A clean school symbolizes care, respect, and discipline, fostering holistic growth for students

In the end, a school is more than its lessons and facilities It’s a reflection of the principles it wants to invest in its students For JuanSci to truly be a place of learning and growth, it must begin with commitment

Spolicy isn’t necessarily flawed encouraging students to interact and take a break from the classroom can be beneficial it’s impractical in the current setup The lack of space in the cafeteria, coupled with the need for some students to mentally recover during their breaks, has made this rule more of a hindrance than a help The school’s limited cafeteria space forces many students to sit on the floor, which poses health risks such as colds, flu, and other illnesses Rather than resting, students are left to deal with unsanitary and uncomfortable conditions

Moreover, not all students have the energy to participate in physical activities during break times Some need these moments for rest after challenging classes The

assumption that all students should socialize or be active during breaks overlooks the need for downtime, potentially reducing their ability to concentrate throughout the day

This policy, while well-intentioned, is overshadowed by its unintended consequences, making many question whether it truly benefits the students

As a student at this school, I’ve seen firsthand how this policy has affected the student body Instead of relaxing after back-to-back classes or quizzes, I’ve spent my breaks sitting on

the floor, unable to find a clean, comfortable space The noise and chaos in the common areas have left me feeling more drained than refreshed The school’s attempt to create a cleaner, more organized environment has fallen short due to the lack of space and the failure to account for the diverse needs of its students Break times should be moments of rest and recharging, but this new policy seems to add to the stress A more flexible approach allowing students to stay in classrooms or expanding cafeteria seating could better meet the needs of all students By addressing these issues, the school could ensure that break times truly serve their intended purpose: providing students with the rest they need to succeed

parol making These are given without any concrete instructions, just the number of participants per competition as well as the time limit

Things immediately became problematic when a meeting was called for the presidents and vice presidents of each section by the EsP coordinator alongside the Supreme Secondary Learner Government of JuanSci on December 9, 2024 ‘Final’ instructions for each competition were given on the day, and some instructions changed all of the sudden Some preparations went to waste, and immediate adjustments had to be applied Mind you, the final date was also unplanned, as it

changed two separate times

As everyone thought that was the final batch of adjustments, they suddenly added a fifth competition, which was the room decoration competition EsP month has drained a lot of students in JuanSci by putting their bodies on the line for unsure competitions with memoranda that are 15 days late Students’ efforts are seen every single day, and for them to not be served justice by enduring everchanging instructions and late add-ons is significant proof that change is needed

One simple change that should be made is to give out the final instructions immediately, which

shouldn’t be replaced under any circumstances once they are given unless a situation demands it Teachers should be prepared when giving out major tasks because it is their responsibility to keep students comfortable when doing those tasks

This year’s ChristmaSaya should not just be a fun time for everyone but also a learning point to improve future events like subject months and anything in between

Building Dreams, Breaking Barriers

an Juan City Science High School is home to brightly-natured students, with outstanding excellence in education The new facilities, which include the library and science laboratories, pave the way to make the school's atmosphere for students better But are we putting it up to its potential?

Despite this movement towards innovation, the operations of these new rooms are prevented by several policies

The biology laboratory, fully equipped, is used only during class sessions Meanwhile, the chemistry laboratory is often used for Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) training

sessions or more recently, a storage space for Christmas donations rather than for chemical application The library has gone through several improvements students are now allowed to utilize it during breaks for pastime, though, with the requirement of recording their attendance every entry These instances show that advancement is achievable; however, are we really using it for its allotted purpose?

The decision of the school to maximize space by using the chemistry laboratory for meetings is commendable, ensuring that the room doesn’t remain for display and collects

dust Additionally, the improved accessibility of the library is an example of how well-thoughtout changes can have massive impacts These small changes make one believe that there is hope for improvement

Seeing the progress it has now, I feel a mix of hope and frustration These rooms have helped me, where concepts that were challenging in the classroom became clear upon application Think of the possibilities that each student can attain if there were more room to move in independently This school has shown the potential for change, as indicated by developments throughout the years

Innovation is continuous. Thus, why cease progress?

This is for the better of the current and future generations of the students and how they’ll be equipped with tools to realize their fullest potential

The school should try to make the best of these areas and involve more students in cooperative projects, rather than restrict the use of them By virtue of better planning, these spaces are going to end up being centers for education and creativity

The celebration that greatly excites Filipino families during Christmas is the Noche Buena feast What many do not know, however, is that behind the celebrations lies the hard work of farmers who make these occasions possible

Like in many countries, farmers in the Philippines are not immune to obstacles posed by globalization, climate variation, high production costs, and competition The country is also burdened by an increasing onslaught of climate related disasters such as droughts and typhoons which has severely reduced agricultural output and ultimately, the livelihood of many people The agricultural industry in the Philippines, is believed to one of the most productive industries in the world so is inherently affected by climatic changes

Additionally, high agricultural costs and dependence on imports alone are sending farmers into poverty The New Humanitarian's report reveals how the profit of Filipino farmers is vanishing that creates more hunger and vulnerability

But still, many farmers even find the energy and passion to grow the

ingredients needed for Noche Buena dishes A good example is Dhon Daganasol of Carigara, Leyte He relays, "Kahit mahirap ang buhay, tuloy pa rin ang patatanim para may maihain ang bawat pamilya sa Pasko

Their resilience ensures that traditional dishes are at the center of Filipino celebrations For example, the lechon, often the centerpiece of Noche Buena, relies on local pig farmers who raise and care for livestock despite the ch rising

and market competition

Every item on the Noche Buena table has a story rooted in the hard work of Filipino farmers The rice for puto bumbong, the sugar for the bibingka, and the fruits for the festive salads are all products of their labor

For every Christmas spirit regarding giving and communities, it goes without saying to support and commend local farmers since buying locally raised produce and arguing for fair agriculture policies can assist in the progress of those in charge of such a Noche Buena affair As Asian Farmers Association member Esther a puts it, there is an tive need for them to be ted financially to build fter these catastrophes prove their agricultural ructure

an Juan City Science High School’s previous earthquake drill was disorganized, marked by delayed procedures due to humid weather, passive disengagement during announcements, and overall exhaustion that led to a performance below the ideal standard for a science high school This year, however, saw significant improvement as students demonstrated commendable efforts, resulting in a praiseworthy new record

This year, the alarm bell rang loudly across the entire school building, effectively signaling the start of the drill

almost a decade Most of the community, especially the jeepney operators, continue to protest for financial, cultural, or preferential reasons Many ideas arose, such as modernizing it but keeping its cultural design, or only phasing out vehicles that are too old and emit thick smoke The community also considered the drivers that would struggle with these changes People say it would be a good idea if it benefited both the community and the victims of the phasing out of jeepneys

Christmas, the Noche table should not just s a setting for the ies but an altarpiece ng the commitment and ess spirit of Filipino s Each piece of the farm e puzzle represents their determination, their grit ace of challenges, and evotion to nurturing a Supporting local ture allows every o to honor their es and ensure that this hed tradition continues ve, celebrating the spirit munity and gratitude eps hope alive

Unlike last year’s disorganized response, students promptly and efficiently evacuated to the San Juan City Shrine At the designated evacuation site, Mr Demie Sioco Atienza, principal of San Juan City Science High School, delivered a congratulatory speech, commending the collaborative efforts of teachers and students that ensured the smooth and successful execution of the drill

air-conditioned atmosphere to battle the heat, especially during summertime when the sun would be scorching hot These benefits would greatly boost our economy and elevate the Philippines among countries

Though, despite its benefits to our country, there will always be conflicting opinions, making this project seem endless There would still be people who greatly oppose this idea, who will soon voice their concerns

Aera Lobas, the president of Grade 9 Darwin, states, “As the classroom president, I told my classmates in advance the things they needed to follow before, during, and after the earthquake so that they knew what to do I made sure that they followed proper decorum at all times and acted appropriately even if it was just a drill.”

She emphasized the importance of preparation and discipline by instructing her classmates in advance, showcasing how proactive leadership and teamwork contributed to this drill’s success

This could lead to even more chaos in our country, further destroying its harmony and separating the community of Filipinos in favor and opposition Not to mention the expenses to fund this program

Besides our economy and unity, these events will also largely impact the culture and history that we will teach to our children and future generations

TikTok doesn’t fail to continue to dominate as a hub for entertainment and trends, but this specific feature adds even more excitement for users According to the platform, the rules are simple yet strict: “Unlock a streak by sending messages to each other for three consecutive days The streak will end if both of you didn’t message each other in the last 24 hours ” The streak feature is designed to encourage consistent interaction; to create more engagement through message sharing, and to encourage users to return to the app every single

Many users have even eagerly shared their ongoing TikTok streaks, with some boasting streaks surpassing 200 days, with the compulsion to keep it going, bringing them back to the app every day

Holiday celebrations do not need to equate to emptying your wallets This year’s ChristmaSaya proved how resourcefulness and a collective effort can create a memorable experience without breaking the bank

Organized by Grade 11 STEM Leeuwenhoek, the event fused the school community using lively decorations, spirited competitions, energetic performances, and cheerful spirit, all in a creative and thrifty manner

The program had a wide array of activities geared towards showcasing the creativity and skill of the

reevaluation of what success really means Growth isn t about some gigantic, showy change on some specific date but about all those small decisions day in and day out In other words, instead of being a stressful marathon to become perfect, it might be a great opportunity to assess where one stands and where he or she needs to go Being kinder to oneself and understanding that personal development takes time, one shifts the focus from unattainable resolutions to realistic progress This mindset does not only help reduce stress but also promotes a healthier attitude toward growth, enabling everyone to find their own unique path throughout the year

students and teachers From solo singing to chorale performances and the energetic Hataw-Sayaw, ChristmaSaya offered entertainment for everyone The event also embraced the Filipino tradition of parol-making, with intricately designed lanterns serving as symbols of hope and unity

that the holiday spirit thrives not in extravagance but in shared effort and joy

ChristmaSaya 2024 transcended the typical Christmas celebration, showcasing the creativity, teamwork, and resourcefulness that embody the Filipino spirit

The event demonstrated that meaningful festivities can arise from collaboration and ingenuity, proving that the most memorable moments don’t require extravagancy

Social media networks are full of people blowing off steam: students venting about their school and teachers, employees being mad about their companies and bosses, teens ranting about their parents, and possibly vice versa. We broke up" is one of those lines, enough to break millions of hearts In the entertainment industry, people can’t help but sensationalize celebrity relationships. From the start of their feelings' development to the day of their marriage, fans are there to support this romantic side of their lives However, not all relationships end in marriage, and not all fandoms get to witness their favorite celebrity’s happy ending It's not uncommon for audiences to support popular couples Whether they are influencers, well-known gamers, or nationwide actors the point is, as long as the relationship of a couple is public, there will be people in society ready to express their own opinions about them A recent example of this is Maris Racal and Rico Blanco’s breakup

on July 12, which was then brought back up by Jam Villanueva on December 3, where she exposed Maris Racal and her now ex-boyfriend, Anthony Jennings’ infidelity As expected, social media had a say in this, shaming the two actors and even making jokes about their conversations with one another

including the relationship status of other popular couples

Although parasocial relationships are real, milder reasons could also explain why people can’t help but voice their thoughts about someone else’s life Though it's not always the case, some people may relate to the situation of the couple, especially when the reason for their breakup is cheating; some feel the need to comment on the situation, as they've been there before But on the other hand, it's easy to be forgotten in the world of social media, so some influencers and creators comment and ride the wave of what's viral as of the moment,

People could actually be affected by a celebrity’s breakup one way or another, with some learning meaningful lessons in life and romance, some feeling heartbroken as they've just learned their idol’s true colors, others no longer believing in love, and some celebrating this long-awaited breakup

There’s no harm in expressing how you feel about a celebrity’s breakup as long as you aren’t hurting the person involved After all, you don’t actually know what happened behind the scenes And no matter how juicy the breakup story is, it’s important to focus on much more relevant news, such as the current affairs of the country; shed enough light on the story, but give the spotlight to other matters that truly deserve glory

’m sure you’ve seen, or even played it, at least once Who would have ever thought a game of blocks would take over the internet? The new meta, Block Blast, is a puzzle game where players must strategically arrange and eliminate blocks on a grid Seems pretty boring, right? But what makes this block-based game so addictive?

One crucial factor that makes Block Blast so addictive is the psychology of challenge and reward Humans are curious by nature, thus leading them to seek new challenges And as you progress through levels, the difficulty increases, creating a sense of challenge

The reward scheme is also essential to their addictiveness

When you successfully erase a row or column, those blocks disappear, giving a satisfying visual cue This sense of accomplishment causes the

release of dopamine a hormone associated with pleasure and motivation

Dopamine is produced in larger amounts as players finish more levels, creating an addictive loop

Lastly, Block Blast's addictive nature can also be due to its quick and convenient nature

These games are designed to be easily accessible and playable at random times

Whether it’s during a school break or while waiting for public transportation, players can instantly open it within a few clicks

Though games like these are an easy way to kill time, it’s still important to keep track of how much time you’ve spent playing them You might not have noticed it, but your screens are holding you captive, slowly taking days or even years of your life If you’re not careful enough, this addiction might lead to the worst

Nowadays, wearable devices (Fitbit, Apple Watch, and Muse headband) can be relied on to monitor heart rate, temperature, etc A study in Frontiers Psychology proved that biofeedback intervention was effective in reducing anxiety and managing users’ emotions For those who prefer a non-wearable approach, there are apps like “Calm and Headspace ” These AI-based apps adapt to users’ behaviors,

making it a comfortable experience for everyone A published study in JMIR Mental Health discovered that 10 days after the usage of meditation apps lowered the stress levels of the users

See, technology is not entirely the villain here They provide accessible and affordable ways for users; instead of going and paying for traditional therapy, with just one click, you can access your apps and wearables Despite its benefits,

note that it's not entirely suitable for everyone, especially for those who have severe mental health issues

While technology offers a lot, it should not replace traditional coping mechanisms such as therapy and social support besides, no AI can replace our loved ones' comfort If we balance them, we can create a better approach to managing stress effectively

Bing Bong! Remember Bing Bong?" That is the question echoing not just from end to end of the halls of Riley's mind but also through the corridors of neuroscience Inside Out recently took over the cinema once again with its sequel Inside Out 2 last June of 2024, being the highest grossing Pixar film But what's so special about Inside Out that kept us on our feet waiting for its sequel? What is the hype behind this film?

Welcome to Riley's Mind!

Like a bustling city, but instead of streets, it's several pathways of neural connections We are introduced to the first five

emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust

Understanding these through science will make us understand that they are not just a character, but also a brainwave frequency, a distinct rhythm

"Don't you worry I'm going to make sure that tomorrow is another great day," Joy advised, symbolizing high-frequency gamma waves, which amplify problem solving and inspire innovation, much like how she keeps Riley optimistic despite challenges "Crying helps me slow down and obsess over the weight of life's problems " Sadness whispers in tears, relating to delta waves, the slowest brain waves, often

leading to self-reflection and emotional processing, essential for healing and connection

"Wait a minute WAIT A MINUTE!" screams Anger, aligning with beta waves, the fast-paced frequencies that prepare the brain for action much like Anger's outburst drives Riley to confront obstacles "There are at least 37 things for Riley to be scared of right now!" Fear, embodying theta waves, his connection reveals how he takes control of Riley’s cautious instincts, balancing the brain’s natural rhythm of exploration and caution "Sorry I don't speak moron as well as you, but let me try! Duh!" And here's

Disgust correlating with alpha waves, the resting-state frequency, counterintuitive, this link reflects how disgust often arises in calm moments when we process our environment critically

In a nutshell, Inside Out creatively explores the complex world of human emotions and intricate waves of our minds By personifying emotions, the film encourages acceptance of all emotions and a deep understanding of why they are all necessary parts of the human experience So, let us appreciate the complexity of our emotions, for in their dance lies the essence of who we are

Every other year, a strong force stirs deep within the Pacific Ocean, causing a chain reaction that travels around the world La Niña a climatic event that cools the ocean waters and carries stronger winds Its weather system has led to severe floods, storms, droughts, destruction, and millions of lives But how does it have such a significant impact on weather patterns, agriculture, and our global environment?

La Niña occurs after the more familiar El Niño, cooling ocean waters and altering atmospheric circulation, which affects the weather patterns

globally Reported from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, La Niña often creates colder, wetter winters in the north While milder, drier conditions to the south often worsen droughts in California and intensify Atlantic storms PBS News also notes that La Niña favors the Indian monsoon, resulting in above-average rainfall However, these effects can take months to fully happen Particularly in South Asia, and contribute to prolonged droughts in eastern Africa

In terms of agriculture, intense La Niña weather patterns can result in droughts

Tiny Drops, Big Floods

The Pearl of the Orient Seas, also known as the Philippines, found itself in a devastating position in recent years In situations where the worst is not yet upon us, houses are submerged, roads become rivers, and daily life activities are disrupted Let’s dip into these waterways to find out how and why even minimal rainfall triggers enormous damage

The Pacific Ocean's cold sea surface temperature, or La Niña, prolongs the rainy seasons and heavier rainfall The excess rainwater penetrates into the ground, filling river systems and generates surface runoff that leads to landslides and floods

Humans also play a role in this crisis It is clear that the Philippines' urban planning lacks quality; insufficient and outdated drainage systems are widespread across the nation

According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), 70% of Metro Manila’s drainage system is clogged with waste

Deforestation rises in tandem with urbanization as more land is cleared for new developments

or floods, which will reduce crop production and increase food prices As a result, it can affect people living in both rural and urban areas During the summer months in North and South America, La Niña can cause crop damage Recent La Niñas have boosted crop prices, possibly due to this factor Meanwhile, in the Philippines, officials of the state weather bureau, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), indicated that agriculture effects are more severe during La Niña due to the many typhoons towards the end of this year; crops are in the mature stage, so the damage to

agriculture may be larger

The world’s ecosystems are also affected Changed weather and precipitation patterns can impact forests, rivers, and marine environments Droughts may dry out lakes and rivers, which will result in freshwater species losing their habitat and endangered biodiversity, and extreme storms can destroy coastal ecosystems La Niñadriven climate extremes can have a large impact on wildlife populations by affecting food supplies and their habitats

La Niña's effects show our planet's weakness regarding the natural climatic events From droughts to floods, its impacts are violent While we can t

report, which says that “The sea level in Manila has been increasing by about 2 6 centimeters per year from an average rate of 1 3 millimeters per year in the 1900s ”

These factors expose the weakness of our urban planning system Therefore, the government needs to take immediate action and prioritize the replacement of our insufficient drainage systems with modern and dependable flood control systems

Implementation of disaster preparedness and reforestation programs is also crucial and can be made possible by encouraging our beloved community

We will eventually manage this flooding crisis through collective action, preparedness and shared resilience Althoug we cannot stop the rain from falling, together we can withstand its devastating impact

CLIMATE THREAT Intensifying Typhoons e

Climate change is a worldwide phenomenon. Aside from its rising temperatures, the Philippines one of the most affected suffers from situations such as severe typhoons As the global temperature continues to increase, it warms the ocean, and typhoons become worse. Resulting in intense typhoons, which are prevalent in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)

Additionally, they observed an increase in rainfall over the past decades in certain areas of Luzon and Visayas In the last 30 years, the country's typical temperature has increased to 0 6 degrees Celsius Projections for the climate by the end of the 21st century also show potential warming scenarios of up to 4 4 degrees Celsius As a result, it brings an increase to typhoons’ wind speeds and rainfall level

incident The typhoon created widespread damage and alerted the government to prepare for these incidents

The intensification of typhoons entering PAR affects the livelihood of every Filipino For instance, Typhoon Carina produced continuous heavy rains and terrible floods Filipinos walked through chestdeep waters and utilized lifeboats to evacuate Stray animals also suffered from this

Now is a great time to put an end to climate change Government officials need to be addressed and must give immediate solutions Early announcements of intense typhoons entering PAR and building durable infrastructure throughout the Philippines are necessary Communities must work and help one another to enhance different plans The future of the Philippines depends on our capacity to handle the threats posed by climate change

Imagine getting ready to lay down and get a good night's sleep after a long day, when suddenly you hear your phone notifications beep it’s another school notification Do you have the habit of responding to work messages even after your work hours are over?

Even when we consciously try to avoid everything related to work past our work hours, sometimes an urgent mail notification can send our heart racing and increase our stress levels However, all of this is just on the surface; it gets more serious when we dig deeper

An investigation was carried out by Auburn University

Associate Professor of Communication and Journalism, Myoung-Gi Chon, and a colleague to see whether communicating about work outside of regular business hours was associated with a higher risk of employee burnout Employees who are forced to work beyond normal working hours have been shown to be less productive, to speak harshly about their employers, and to engage in other undesirable behaviors

Myoung-Gi Chon's post in The Conversation highlights the negative impact of stressful work schedules on employee morale and job satisfaction As such, they should take note of

this investigation and maintain a healthy work-life balance to prevent employees from seeing their free time as an extension of their workdays

persuading AIgenerated synthetic media, Deepfake, started with face-swapping videos with celebrities into pornographic videos that started in early 2017, resulting in major problems such as democratic processes and elections

Deepfake exists due to the evolution of cyberspace, creating a new modern technology It functions by a machine learning technique called Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) scanning hundreds of pictures of a celebrity and producing new images different from the original pictures On top of that, it can also create new audio from an existing audio or text of a well-known person

Many issues and news about Deepfake show that it has the potential to spread false information, particularly in the elections In a previous incident AI impersonated US President Joe Biden advising New Hampshire citizens not to vote in the state's presidential primaries People were convinced that Biden said that, even though he never did

With access to advancements in technology it is becoming increasingly difficult to identify real and fake information online False information could become more widespread as more people are fooled by Deepfake The best thing to do is to be skeptical of the media’s content Question the source and rightfulness of the information you find before sharing it with others Caution can make a difference in conflicts of spreading fake media

The Paris 2024 Olympics are set to be the greenest Games ever, making a strong statement about sustainability in sports. With innovative plans that go beyond past Olympics, Paris aims to inspire future host cities to prioritize taking care of the environment

One of the most impressive efforts is the $1 5 billion cleanup of the River Seine, which has been too dirty and unsafe for swimming for over a hundred years This major project will make the river ready for the Olympic triathlon and open-water events, while also bringing the community closer to a key part of their city’s history

In a bold move against plastic waste, Paris will ban all single-use plastics during the Games This initiative shows the city’s commitment to reduce trash and protect the planet, setting an example for others to follow

To cut down on construction waste, Paris plans to use 95% of existing venues or buildings that can

be taken apart after the Games Stadiums will even have chairs made from recycled plastic, demonstrating a focus on saving materials and lowering pollution during the event

The city is also working to promote cycling by creating over 400 kilometers of new bike lanes and adding 20,000 bike parking spots near the venues This plan encourages people to ride bikes instead of driving, which helps reduce traffic and lower emissions, making it easier for everyone to adopt a greener lifestyle during their Games

The Olympic Village, where athletes will stay, will run entirely on renewable energy Built with recycled materials, the village is designed to minimize its impact on the environment while providing a sustainable living space for competitors

Paris 2024 is not just about celebrating sports; it’s a powerful message about what is possible when a city commits to care for the environment to offer a hopeful look at a future where sports help protect the planet
