THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT THE MACHAN

The Machan is a resort in Lonavala which is known to be one of the most exclusive and popular nature resort near Mumbai. Tree house hotels and resorts near Pune are few and far between which is why The Machan is such a popular Lonavala resort and is considered to be an ideal weekend Getaway Mumbai. But there may be a few hidden gems that you do not know about this incredible property that is situated deep inside a tropical rain forest in the hills of Lonavala and Khandala. So today we are going to let you know even more about this incredible property with Machans that rise almost 45 feet into the air and form a shadow over the most natural green canopy of the jungles below.

Exclusivity that makes Memories Our Machans are built out of exclusivity. They are designed to provide specially curated, bespoke luxury experiences that help you carve indelible memories for life. They encourage you to sit in the very lap of nature at its most serene and tranquil best while you marvel at the wonders of solitude and the significance [or insignificance] of everyday triviality. Love and Live of the Land

We mentioned that we are award winning. We are also loved. Here’s why. Nowhere else in India can you relive the Machan experience of relaxing in unique tree house accommodations that are built to

be one with nature. We are fully 100% sustainable and run completely off grid with only Solar and Wind for power. We offer professionally conducted trails and activities by our Naturalists that educate and expose you to the magnificence of the Western Ghats. We try to work as much as we can with villagers from the local community to improve their lives while preserving nature. The Mountains make for Home

The Western Ghats in Maharashtra are home to one of the world’s eight “hottest hotspots of biological diversity as well as at least 325 globally threatened flora, fauna, bird, amphibian, reptile and fish species. They have also recently been elevated to the UNESCO World Heritage List in tribute to their global significance and massive learning potential on the wonders of the region. The Western Ghats are also home to The Machan! Off the Charts but also Off the Grid

We are 100% sustainable in our operations and we do so by harnessing only the powers of the sun and the wind. In 1994, we were the first individuals in Western India to install a 2 KWh photovoltaic array with a battery bank and invertor; today our captive solar capacity has grown to 14 KWh. Our hybrid system also generates 14 KWh of energy from wind turbines and this acts as our main stay during the monsoons. In Conservation we Trust

Apart from harnessing and utilising only natural energy we also use only LED bulbs and tubes to brighten your experience. Nearly 50% of all meals cooked at the property are done so on parabolic solar cookers. We recycle 80% of our grey water by using it to water our plants and foliage. We provide only pure mountain water for guest consumption through our 300 foot deep bore well. Our flowers on the property are grown organically and we limit our capacity to build so that each Machan has approximately an acre of space to itself. In Preservation we Believe

In an effort to preserve the bounty that nature bestows upon us, we pledge 10% of our profits every year to the flora and fauna of the region. We also conduct in depth research and development studies upon the environment and share our findings with relevant NGOs and authorities. We

further create perennial water holes with salt licks to help animals in the summers. We build urban bundhs that help to raise the sub soil water level and subsequently the water table. We treat our trees for termites and prune them regularly to improve health and growth. We ensure that no tree cutting or hunting takes place across 29 acres of our property. In Community we Prosper

50% of our staff is from the local community. Villages with a half kilometre radius from the property benefit from free electricity. All the dairy produce is bought local and farm fresh. We support projects that lead to the development of the region without harming the natural habitat. We do all we can to educate, support and further train the staff by providing paid internships, conducting regular skill enhancing training and supporting personal initiatives.
