CHEMICAL NEWS THYSSENKRUPP BAGS CONTRACT FROM ATUL FOR CAUSTIC SODA PLANT Basic chemicals and derivatives manufacturer, Atul Limited, has selected ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions (formerly Uhde India) to render engineering, lumpsum supply of cell elements and site supervision services for their caustic soda conversion project at Valsad in Gujarat. The project envisages the conversion of Atul's existing mercury cell caustic soda facility at Atul near Valsad, Gujarat and to set-up a 75 tpd membrane cell facility. The capacity of the plant will be expandable to 100 tpd. The scope of services includes basic/ detailed engineering, project management services and procurement services, inspection and expediting services for critical items, supply of imported proprietary membrane cell elements and site supervision services during start-up and commissioning. A sharp rise in volumes in the natural gas trading business was mainly responsible for this growth. BASF is divesting this operation by the end of this year. Dow Chemical posted net income of $852 million, up 43% from the year-ago quarter, led by strong gains in performance materials, performance plastics, and electronic materials. Revenues were up 4.9%, to $14.4 billion. LyondellBasell reports third-quarter net income of $1.3 billion, up 48% YOY from $851 million. Sales totaled $12.1 billion, an 8% YOY increase. Air Liquide has reported that its third-quarter revenue was €3.8 billion ($4.81 billion), up 1% YOY on a reported basis and 4.3% YOY on a comparable basis. Commenting on the company's performance, Rajesh Aggarwal, Managing Director, IIL, said, "The increase in net profit is very encouraging for us in the scenario. I would accredit this to our broad product strategy i.e. working on 20 products, Navratnas and Super 11, which reduces the dependence on 1-2 products. Our products Pulsor (Marketing Tie up with Nissan Japan) for Paddy and Logo for cotton have received overwhelming response, and so do have our other products, leading to rise in our top line.
