POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Position Title: Marketing Coordinator Reports To: Museum Director & Curator Status: Part-Time/Volunteer/Intern Compensation: Unpaid/college credit when applicable Organizational Description: The George & Leah McKenna Museum of African American Art is an institution that collects, interprets and preserves the visual aesthetic of people of African descent in North America and beyond. Through innovative programs and exhibits that engage versatile audiences, the McKenna Museum seeks to make African Diasporan fine art accessible to visitors of all ages. The institution also actively identifies and presents emerging artists alongside well-established fine arts masters. Featuring the private collection of Dr. Dwight McKenna, the Museum presents works by local and internationally-renowned artists such as Henry Ossawa Tanner, William Edouard Scott, Clementine Hunter, Ernie Barnes and Ulrich Jean Pierre. Position Description: Marketing Interns assist with public relations, grassroots marketing, market research, community outreach, online promotion, and micro-marketing efforts intended to increase awareness and attendance at the McKenna Museum. All projects are managed with a concise understanding of the McKenna Museum’s mission and responsibilities to our community and partners. Our strategic marketing goals include increasing general admissions, building community partnerships, maintaining and updating the website. Responsibilities: Research & Marketing Administration • Assist with the management and design of small collateral projects, including postcards, posters, brochures, and advertisements • Assist with database development for members, visitors, community partnerships, and media for email blast • Compile and update media list (online, print, radio, TV, etc) • Coordinate updates of content for the website with the museum’s web designer • Online research for blogs and websites of interest to Museum outreach Design and Copy Editing • Assist with updating a monthly email newsletter • Preserve brand integrity on all print and online communication and materials • Draft press releases and pitches for the media regarding upcoming exhibitions, events and programs • Draft Public Service Announcements for radio regarding upcoming exhibitions, events and programs

Online Marketing • Utilize social media platforms (i.e., Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, etc.) to build awareness and engage our target audience • Identify online advertising/marketing partnership opportunities • Monitor blogs and news for press coverage • Upload regularly scheduled events, special events and educational programs to online calendars Events • Assist with set up and breakdown of events at the McKenna Museum • Attend fairs, focus groups, receptions, and other outreach programs Minimum Qualifications: • Strong computer skills, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and the ability to research and communicate using online tools • Must be team-oriented and able to work well with people of all backgrounds • Strong writing skills Individuals interested in art, history, preservation, community organizing, event planning, marketing, public relations, social media, and other related fields are encouraged to apply.
