Together, the annual TEA Summit & TEA Thea Awards of the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) comprise TEA’s most important weekend of events. They are also vital business networking gatherings. The TEA Summit & Thea Awards bring the international leisure attractions community together to celebrate and learn about top projects, people, events, technologies, markets and trends. The annual TEA Summit and Thea Awards are two of the ways that TEA has brought international attention to the unique business of themed entertainment.
DAY ONE
TEA Summit Day One focuses on the visitor attractions industry through a business lens and considers the owner/operator perspective as well as the creative/project point of view. The program focuses on trends, hot topics and addresses the questions everyone is asking. Day One also offers an exclusive in-depth look at the headline Thea Award recipients: a conversation with the Buzz Price lifetime honoree, and this year’s new Catalyst Award recipients.
Taken together, the TEA Summit and Thea Awards Gala are one big weekend of professional development, networking, education and celebration, revolving around the current slate of TEA Thea Awards recipients and headlined by the best of the global themed entertainment business - industry superstars, creative and tech pioneers, and top projects all leading the way for tourism, real estate development and great guest experiences.

Day Two of the TEA Summit is Thea Case Studies Day, a deep-dive into the projects being recognized with a Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement at the Thea Awards Gala on the following evening. Presentations are made by the owners and their creative partners, sharing insights and in-depth views on the project’s development and implementation. The slate of international award recipients ensures this day is full of unique personalities who are excited to share the details of their project with the attendees. Case Studies Day welcomes a broad industry audience, including TEA NextGen (student and academic) members and the press.
The prestigious Thea Award is considered one of the attraction industry's greatest honors. The awards were founded in 1994 by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA).

Tom Mehrmann joined Universal Parks & Resorts as President and General Manager for Universal Beijing Resort in 2017 Bringing with him nearly five decades of industry knowledge and international experience, Tom was responsible for the development and operation of Universal Beijing Resort, which successfully opened on 20 September 2021 He has recently been appointed to a new role as President and Chief Operating Officer of Universal Parks and Resorts, Pacific Rim Prior to joining Universal, Tom was the Chief Executive of Ocean Park Corporation in Hong Kong for 13 years, where he led a redevelopment of the marine life and animal theme park that resulted in record-breaking attendance and annual revenue growth Tom’s theme park career began in 1977, as a cleaner at Knott’s Berry Farm He progressively took on leadership roles at parks and attractions in the US including Knott’s Camp Snoopy in Minnesota’s Mall of America, Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Marine World In 2000, Tom became Vice President and General Manager of Warner Brothers Movie World in Madrid, Spain, when the park was acquired by Six Flags and was responsible for leading the design, construction and operation of the park, which opened in April 2002 In 2017, Tom cowrote and published “Taming the Mouse”, chronicling the management and leadership principles that allowed Ocean Park to achieve the success it did over 10 straight years He is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology He also completed the Advanced Courses organized by IAAPA in Theme Park Management at Cornell University, New York

He has completed projects across a broad range of countries in Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa and his clients have included government organisations, sovereign wealth funds, leisure and entertainment providers, property development companies, financial institutions, development corporations and local authorities Mr Martin is involved at all stages of the

Doris Hardoon began her illustrative career in 1975 as a graphic designer at Marine World Africa USA This invaluable experience introduced her to the world of entertainment design In 1979 Doris was hired by now Disney Legends Marty Sklar, John Hench and Rolly Crump as a junior designer at WED Enterprises (now called Walt Disney Imagineering), quickly evolving into lead designer, creative director and producer on projects that included the Land Pavilion, seven World Showcase galleries at EPCOT Center, Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney Cruise Line, and Disney urban entertainment centers, nationwide Doris went on to become a senior executive creative director, producer, and creative portfolio lead for several theme parks and resorts, such as the designed-but-never-built WESTCOT Center in Anaheim and Long Beach DisneySea projects Doris is one of the few creative executives to have contributed her design and leadership skills to all six of Disney’s Magic Kingdom-style theme parks in the world During her career at Walt Disney Imagineering, Doris was also one of a few creative executives responsible for the design and implementation of large-scale, non-Disney installations such as Autry Museum of the American West and Port Discovery – the Baltimore Children’s Museum Upon successfully leading her team to complete the original Hong Kong Disneyland concept and actively participating in the signing agreement with the Hong Kong Government, Doris left Imagineering for nine years to spend time with her family while continuing her design career in the entertainment industry as the co-founder and owner of Taft Design + Associates In 2009, she was invited by Bob Weis to rejoin Imagineering as one of the designers and creative leadership team members on the Shanghai Disney Resort project. In her role as executive creative director and producer for Shanghai Disney Resort, Doris provided overall creative direction and team guidance which included designers, artists, writers, architects, operators, and consulting partners in developing the overarching concepts for specific areas within the theme park and overall resort Her oversight included the realization of the design philosophy “Authentically Disney and Distinctly Chinese” throughout the resort Once the concepts had been defined, she followed through with internal talent and valued consulting production teams in developing the ideas into reality, while always maintaining the vision of the original concepts throughout the process Upon recently retiring from Walt Disney Imagineering after 31 years, Doris launched her global connections and design consultancy company, DDesign, so she can continue to offer her creative artistry with emphasis on fostering innovative spirit for present and future generations in the entertainment industry Doris builds upon the relationships and connections with various industries and academic institutions to reach professionals and inspire emerging talent to new heights.
