Tips on How to Improve Your Emotional and Mental Health The normal stresses of everyday life make it really hard for people to maintain goo mental and emotional health. At the same time, the importance of psychological well-being is increasing by the day, and people have started recognizing the importance of emotional fitness. One way to improve mental health is to be proactive and participate in activities that foster good mental health. There are several ways to do so, including the following: Interact with others A key principle of good emotional and mental health is the maintenance of positive and healthy relationships. That includes relationships with family members, friends, and associates from school or work. Interacting positively with others is fun, helps with productivity, limits chances of becoming lonely, and keeps depression at a distance. It feels great to feel loved. For that to happen, humans have to foster great relationships. Keep your body healthy Not everybody recognizes it, but physical health has a substantial impact on mental and emotional health. The better you feel physically, the more likely you will be to feel emotionally healthy. To emphasize the interaction between physical and emotional health, The Mental Health Gym was founded (www.thementalhealthgym.com). There are important physical health habits that are critical to the establishment of good mental health - such as the habit of healthy eating. Be sure to incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet. Also, make it a regular habit to exercise even if time is limited. Make physical activity a part of your daily routine so you do not feel like you are doing something that requires effort. If possible, walk to work and/or take the elevator instead of the stairs. Find an activity that’s convenient for you specifically - like yoga or swimming. Incorporate that in your routine a few days a week to benefit your mental health as well as your physical health. Regularly challenge yourself Creating and dealing with challenges is extremely important for emotional and mental health. While there is no denying the fact that extra stress can be negative, passivity in response to stress is not healthy either. Thus, to stay psychologically fit, one must always have goals and aims in life that are achievable with effort. Nothing makes one feel as good as meeting challenges and achieving the goals one has set.

Spend time each day on an enjoyable activity Every day, spend time doing something you like. Hopefully your daily routine enables you to do lots of things that you like. Do not do it for anyone else. Do it for yourself. It could be anything from writing in your diary, going for a jog, spending time with children, taking your dog for a walk, watching a movie, reading a book or gardening. This is the much needed “me time that everyone requires in life. It helps you to be more in touch with yourself, and it keeps you from mindlessly following a course of events that is totally created by others.
