Blades Return To Winning Ways
United returned to winning ways with a hard-fought but deserved success against playoff chasing Watford at Bramall Lane on Saturday afternoon.
The decisive moment came in the 73rd minute as Oli McBurnie’s back post header in front of the Kop was deflected into his own net by the unfortunate Ryan Porteous and coupled with some excellent defending at the death United saw the game out for what could be a crucial three points.
Boss Heckingbottom made three changes for the clash against the Hornets, with Fleck making his first start since November.
Ahmedhodžić and Ndiaye were called, as skipper Sharp returned to the matchday 18.
The opening ten minutes saw both teams look dangerous in an attacking sense. Bogle was snuffed out at one end, after Ndiaye freed Berge, with Hodet later booked for his foul in build-up. But at the other end, Davis got in behind the Blades defence, but under pressure from
You have to wait for your chance
Jaden Brown reflected on a memorable afternoon in the capital and was pleased with his shift as the Owls posted three points against Charlton to stay at the summit of League One. Brown made his first league appearance for four months and emerged with credit, claiming an assist for Liam Palmer’s winner and turning in a solid performance in the left
Lowe he missed his kick and Foderingham gathered. Ndiaye was proving a real handful and was denied from McBurnie’s flick on, only for the assiatnt referee to raise a late flag. Ahmedhodžić was cautioned for a shirt pull on Joao Pedro and from the resulting free-kick Davis should have scored with a glancing header. The frenetic pace carried on until the break, as Lowe entered the book, before Foderingham was brave to claim a Louza free-kick under heavy pressure Hodet.
United ended the half on top though forcing successive corners, from which Egan saw a header block, before Choudhury headed behind after Egan had recycled the ball to maintain a promising attack from Fleck’s initial delivery.
The Blades registered their first shot on target from Norwood’s free-kick after Porteous had been booked for a foul on McBurnie, at the other end Ahmedhodžić was alert to the danger to prevent Sarr getting a shot away wing-back berth. Delighted to having made his mark, the 24-yearold said: “I’m buzzing for myself and the boys and the fans because Charlton away is a tough game.
“I was ready because no matter when you get the call, you have to be ready, I can’t have any excuses.
“I’m a footballer and I want to play. But when the team is doing well and winning matches you have to wait for your chance. I have waited for my chance and I like to think that I took it.”
Darren Moore was equally pleased for Brown, who was drafted into the team with Marvin Johnson
