“We generally carry maybe, at the most, a week of inventory in a restaurant. So, after four or five days, if this isn’t resolved we’ll start to feel the shortages in our inventory,” Tostenson said.

Booze being rationed at BC Liquor Stores

The Adventures of Ace O’Hara

ABLE BC says it has been informed by the province that it is rationing booze because of the BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) strike.

The executive director urged both sides “to get back to the negotiation table immediately before this strike does further damage to B.C.’s economy.”IanTostenson, president and CEO of the BC Restaurant and Foodservice Association, warned that everyone would run out of stock in an interview with Glacier Media earlier this week.

“That the BCGEU strike continues to disrupt our entire industry is deeply frustrating to the pubs and restaurants still struggling to recover from the financial damage of the pandemic,” says Guignard, noting the restrictions will not affect private stores.

The ‘Stand United’ group sweated it out at the DC RCMP detachment Saturday afternoon for three hours, hoping to hand officials their research on vaccines, informed consent, and more.

The public and business owners will be limited to purchasing no more than three of any individual items (or SKU) per day.

BCGEU represents about 33,000 provincial workers who started to strike on Monday.

“We will continue to serve our customers to the best of our ability, while supplies last,” said Guignard.

All government-owned BC Liquor Stores will start limiting the quantity of alcohol that customers, restaurants and businesses can buy starting Friday morning. The announcement comes from BC’s Alliance of Beverage Licensees (ABLE BC), which says the rationing will begin at 9 a.m.

“This is insane. The only reason BC Liquor Stores are rationing quantities is because of the BCGEU strike, which is shutting down B.C.’s vital liquor distribution warehouses,” says Jeff Guignard, executive director of ABLE BC.

Restrictions will apply to all products, except beer, and will remain in place until the BC Liquor Distribution Branch distribution centres resume operations.

Bullet Train crashes into Dawson Creek this week Rob ManagingBrownEditor

Bullet Train is an economical film – similar to Ronin a generation ago, using the Tarantino plot device of “what’s in the case is unimportant - when you have so many interesting characters after it.”Bullet Train, like The Lost City earlier this year, is a summer action adventure. Brad Pitt (aka Lady Bug) gets on a train to retrieve a briefcase. Within seconds he has the case – only to lose it and have it passed around by a very strong supporting cast. Another Tarantino riff – each character has a nickname so there is some identity confusion at play in the plot, with viewers, and the characters.“Sixteen cars. 10 economy, 6 first class, and one minute at each stop.”This, and the briefcase everyone is trying to retrieve, is all you need to know. It is pretty much your locked room plot – moving at 100 mph on rails. By the third act all the players are on the board and we are gearing up for a classic sword fight on a moving train. With the exception of a Speed II type crash towards the end – this is a solid film from front to back. It takes the best of the 21st century action direction and places it on the moving train. An amped up Unstoppable crossed with Smoking Aces – which is a lot considering the quality of the Tony Scott train film. Add a couple philosophical dialogue scenes about life and the meaning of it, and this is the stew you get with Bullet Train. Just as Pitt guested in Sandra Bullock’s The Lost City earlier this year, Bullock returns the favor here. There is another A list cameo actor or two that pop by for plot points come end of the adventure. Bullet Train pulls into Dawson Creek this week. editor@dcdn.ca
