A SLICE OF HISTORY

The Moorgate is a Grade II listed terrace of four properties, currently being converted into just twenty luxury suites that will soon become a haven for business travelers from around the world. Offering the space, flexibility and quality that discerning guests demand, the architect-designed apartments blend the best of old and new. Homely touches including open fireplaces, cornicing and extra high ceilings, as befits the history of the building.

The Moorgate sits at the junction of London Wall and Moorgate; two major thoroughfares in the modern City that derive their names from the Roman defensive boundary built to protect Londinium in the 4th century, and the later medieval fortifications which controlled access to the City. Architect Sir Robert Smirke is responsible for the original style of the exterior of The Moorgate, his work dating back to the 1830s and extending down much of Moorgate Street to create a series of well-proportioned facades faced in stucco with architectural detailing achieving rhythm and harmony.

Surrounded by some of the most iconic buildings in London, The Moorgate is situated in one of the most exciting areas of the Capital. Minutes from the centuries old traditions of the City but on the doorstep of the new world of digital commerce in Old Street and vibrant street culture in Shoreditch.

The Moorgate survived direct bomb damage during the Second World War despite property to the north and east being heavily blitzed in 1940-41. Simple, economic and architecturally conservative, the building is Grade II listed with historical importance for simply surviving the redevelopment plans of many overzealous urban planners during the last century.

The Moorgate is perfectly placed for business or pleasure with excellent transport links across the Capital.

The Moorgate is at the heart of The City and within easy walking distance or a short hop in a taxi to many of the biggest names in modern business.
