SEVIERVILLE — Sevierville police arrested a local man and two North Carolinians after allegedly making undercover drug buys from them, officials said Wednesday. Andres Tolentino De La Cruz, 34, of Monroe, N.C.; Juan Oliveros, 28, of 3898 Engall Town Road in Sevierville; and Maribel Avelino Olarte, 23, of Kings Mountain, N.C., are all

charged with sale and delivery of cocaine after being involved in the undercover buys. Police Oliveros say De La Cruz sold two grams of cocaine to their undercover officer on Monday, and that Oliveros assisted De La Cruz in the transaction that day by driving him to the location. De

Chamber looks back on progress Banquet takes audience back half a century By STAN VOIT Editor SEVIERVILLE — A lot has happened for the good in Sevierville in the last half-century, and much of it was the focus of the Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet Tuesday night. With three former mayors on hand and a 40-minute video that highlighted progress over the last 50 years, those who attended got to see just how far the county seat has come. Fifty years ago Sevierville had no city hall, only a volunteer fire department, no police station, no public parks and only one garbage truck. Now this city, whose population numbered a couple of thousand then, has more than 17,000 people, several parks, a municipal complex

ment to him has been the Central Business Improvement District and Tourist Development Zone. That project, which diverts sales tax money destined for Nashville, has resulted in the events center, the Bridgemont

project at Wilderness in the Smokies and is doubling the size of Eagle’s Landing Golf Course. “The last 15 to 20 years we’ve seen strength in numbers,” Atchley said, noting the level of cooperation among local governments has increased. “When Nashville sees us coming, they see us together, and that’s strength in numbers. I’ve always said when one of us fails, we all fail.” People who visit Sevier County don’t always know the difference among Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg, so all those cities ought to work together to promote tourism, he said. The Chamber’s annual Citizen of the Year award went to John Waters Jr., the longtime attorney, former chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority Board and former member of the Appalachian Regional Commission. While absenteeism in Sevier County schools is still “slightly elevated” compared to autumns in the past, Debra Cline said Wednesday the numbers do not warrant closing schools. “Systemwide, the percentage (of students absent) is 11 percent — slightly elevated over what would be normal,” Cline, director of instruction and curriculum, said. “We can see a pattern: The numbers go up, peak and then come down.” “We look at the numbers very closely every morning, not just for students but for faculty and staff as well,” Director of Schools Jack Parton added. Cline said absenteeism is especially high at Northview Primary, Northview Middle and Sevierville Middle schools. “Sevier County High School’s numbers (of students absent) are elevated, but not as elevated as they were last week,” Cline said. Several members of SCHS’ faculty have also been absent. Cline said it was not unusual for some classes to be combined on days they were missing an instructor. Cline said many doctors are now using swabs instead of sending tests off to diagnose the swine flu. Because of this, the schools are unable to have accurate information on the number of possible cases. “We are following the Centers for Disease Control guidelines, but we also need cooperation with the parents,” Parton said. “If your children have any flu-like symptoms, please keep them at home.” “Above everything, we are concerned about the health and well-being of the children,” Cline added. n ebrown@themountainpress.com

Police seek purse thief By JEFF FARRELL Staff Writer SEVIERVILLE — Police here are asking for the public’s help in catching a man who stole purses from the offices of a local church on at least two occasions. On the most recent occasion, he took a purse from First Baptist Church in Sevierville on Aug. 19 and later used debit cards to make purchases. “He stole from an office inside the Submitted church,” said Bob Stahlke, public information officer for the police department. purse was allegedly stolen. “From surveillance video, it appears he walked into the office when the victim was not present and stole the purse.” The suspect is believed to be responsible for at least one similar theft at the church. Police are searching for a white male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 280 to 300 pounds. Two new ambulances added to the Sevier County Ambulance Service fleet have improvements that not only make driving them safer, but cost less to operate. “Having the best equipment for our emergency workers is one our points of pride in Sevier County,� said County Mayor Larry Waters. The ambulances are constructed on a larger, dual rear wheel chassis that makes the vehicles more stable to operate in emergency conditions while navigating winding roads. The new chassis also provides for a larger patient care compartment. The ambulances also feature complete LED emergency lighting which uses less electrical amperage, thus reducing ongoing maintenance cost. “We appreciate Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters and the Sevier County Commission allowing the ambulance service to provide this safer technology to our employees and residents of Sevier County� said Steve Huskey, EMS director. Cades Cove site of two concerts From Submitted Reports

NATIONAL PARK — Two free one-hour musical performances, featuring Paul Grace and the Boogertown Gap band, will begin at 8 p.m. on Oct. 9 and Oct. 24 in Cades Cove. The musicians will be performing in the Cades Cove campground amphitheater. Grace, who will perform Oct. 9, is a folk musician from Columbia, Mo., who has been performing for more than 25 years. He spent many years touring North America with his wife and daughters. Now a solo performer, he is a vocalist and instrumentalist on fiddle, guitar, mandolin and harmonica. Grace has musical roots in the Ozarks and the Appalachians, as well as early influences of the Kingston Trio and other members of the Folk Revival. He will present a variety of songs and styles from fiddle tunes to ballads. Boogertown Gap band, which performs Oct. 24, is composed of Ruth Barber and Keith Watson. They specialize in traditional songs and tunes played on

a variety of stringed instruments. The wife and husband duo, who reside in Pittman Center, perform old-time and Celtic music throughout East Tennessee. They are known to share the music, folklore and stories of their ancestors and descendants of the Southern Appalachians. Boogertown Gap attempts to stay “traditional” by performing music from the pre-recording industrial period, playing a lot of tunes from the minstrel antebellum period and the years during and after the Civil War.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A newborn snatched from a Nashville home was missing and his mother recovering from stab wounds she said happened when she struggled with the woman kidnapper posing as an immigration agent, authorities said Wednesday. The mother, 30-year-old Maria Gurrolla, told reporters she had never seen the woman before she showed up at her door Tuesday evening. She said the woman got a knife from the home and stabbed her several times. “I need my baby back,� she said through an interpreter outside Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was being treated for her wounds and a collapsed lung. Gurrolla said she did not see the woman take the baby because she ran to a neighbor’s home to get help. When she returned, her 3-year-old daughter was unharmed, but her son was gone.

“She said she was an immigration officer and she was there to arrest her,� Gurrolla said through the interpreter. It was not clear if she was an immigrant, and the cousin who acted as her interpreter said the family did not want to discuss her legal status. It was unclear where the baby’s father was. Socialized medicine story doesn’t hold up By CALVIN WOODWARD Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) — Shona Holmes is the Harry and Louise of this year’s health care debate, only unlike the fictional folks who memorably trashed the Clinton-era health plan in advocacy ads 15 years ago, Holmes is real. But her story? It’s not quite the slam-dunk indictment of socialized medicine that’s been portrayed by

Republican lawmakers and their allies. Holmes, a Canadian living under that country’s single-payer system, has said flatly that her brain tumor would have killed her if she’d accepted her fate in Canada — a wait of four months for one specialist and six months for another. Instead she went to the U.S. and had successful surgery. But she never had cancer — a fact routinely omitted by the advocates who have

seized on her case. She had a benign cyst that was threatening her eyesight. Holmes’ decision to come to the U.S. exposed her both to the best of American health care and the worst: its capacity for prompt, advanced treatment for complicated conditions, and its staggering expense. The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld ordinances barring the ownership of handguns in most cases in Chicago and suburban Oak Park, Ill. Judge Frank Easterbrook, an appointee of President Ronald Reagan, said that “the Constitution establishes

a federal republic where local differences are to be cherished as elements of liberty rather than extirpated in order to produce a single, nationally applicable rule.� “Federalism is an older and more deeply rooted tradition than is a right to carry any particular kind of weapon,� Easterbrook wrote.

Evaluating arguments over the extension of the Second Amendment is a job “for the justices rather than a court of appeals,� he said. Justice Sonia Soto-mayor, then an appeals court judge, was part of a three-judge panel in New York that reached a similar conclusion in January.

Ex-kennel owner sent to prison

The former owner of a Blountville kennel has been sentenced to federal prison for selling hundreds of sickly imported puppies for up to $1,800 apiece. Federal Judge Ronnie Greer was unmoved by Gina De’Lynn Price’s plea for leniency. He sentenced her in Greeneville to five years and 11 months for wire and mail fraud and failure to report more than $1 million in income over three years from her Rebel Ridge Kennels. The Bristol Herald Courier reports Price also was ordered to pay back income taxes and make restitution. n

City attorney says firing try illegal

The Shelbyville city attorney says the attempted firing of the city manager violated the state’s open meetings law. Ginger Shofner said the action Monday against Ed Craig was illegal because a meeting of the city council was not held. Craig received a letter from four council members, informing him he was fired. Shofner told the Shelbyville Times-Gazette that any such action would have to take place during a meeting that had been publicly announced.

Diversity training earns praise NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee legislative staffers who attended mandatory diversity training say it was worthwhile and they plan to adhere to what they learned. Rep. John Deberry, a Memphis Democrat, held two diversity training sessions this month following the revelation in June that a Tennessee legislative staffer sent a racist e-mail about President Barack Obama from her state computer. The incident drew

national attention and many wanted the woman fired. But legislative leaders agreed with Deberry’s proposal for mandatory diversity training for all state legislative staffers. Lance Frizzell, a spokesman for Republican Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey of Blountville, attended the second session held this week. He said the five hours of training was “time well spent” and that “it was a positive experience for everybody that was there.”

Success not what you say it is This Friday, September’s job-loss total will be announced. Whatever the numbers, administration officials surely will tell us that life is better — because of them. “We brought the global economy back from the brink,” President Obama said at the close of the G-20 meeting last week. “(B) ecause of the bold and coordinated action that we took, millions of jobs have been saved or created; the decline in output has been stopped; financial markets have come back to life” (http:// tinyurl.com/ y8zr9u3). This has been the president’s theme: His so-called stimulus package, bailouts for politically connected banks and industries, ludicrously wasteful programs like Cash for Clunkers, etc. have saved America from the greatest disaster since the Great Depression. But this theme runs up against some rather unfortunate facts. In January, the administration’s economic models warned that unemployment would hit 9 percent next year if its $787 billion “stimulus” wasn’t passed. Passing it would keep the jobless rate under 8 percent before it begins to fall (http://tinyurl.com/nuuq5l). Well, the packaged passed — and unemployment in August rose to 9.7 percent (http://tinyurl.com/yabk6c4). Oops. OK, economic forecasters make mistakes. Fair enough. But neither the administration experts nor President Obama will acknowledge that their models and strategy are flawed. Instead, they spin the numbers and proclaim success, insisting that the plan is working even though unemployment is higher than they said it would be. For example, Christina Romer, chief of the president’s Council of Economic Advisers, preferred to emphasize that the 216,000 jobs lost in August were about half a million less than six months before (http://tinyurl.com/ nrm44b). Never mind that the economic strategy hasn’t restored any of those 700,000 jobs previously lost. They’d rather distract us by focusing on the slowing rate of loss rather than the losses themselves. But, New York University economist Mario Rizzo writes, to take credit for this is to imply that “in the absence of fiscal stimulus, the rate of increase in unemployment never falls” (http://tinyurl.com/le3w6r). That’s ridiculous. Should Obama get credit anytime things aren’t as bad as they might have been? “The stimulus apologists are ignoring the original prediction based on a model. By that prediction, the stimulus is doing harm,” Rizzo commented. As Harvard economist Greg Mankiw writes, “In light of the shifting baseline, it is impossible to hold the administration accountable for whether its policies are achieving their intended effects.” “The administration, however, has not been particularly forthright in admitting to this lack of accountability. Indeed, the act of releasing quarterly reports on how many jobs have been ‘created or saved’ gives the illusion of accountability without the reality” (http:// tinyurl.com/nuuq5l). This lack of accountability — this claim of success no matter what happens — should surprise no one. Many of us warned about it months ago. Remember, Obama didn’t promise to create 3.5 million jobs. He promised to create or save that many. There is no way to test that. If you still have your job, does that mean Obama saved it? If an entrepreneur created a new job, in spite of Obama’s destructive anti-business regulatory apparatus, does Obama still deserve the credit? As I wrote in February: “Given time, the economy, unless totally crippled by government intervention, will regenerate itself. That’s because an economy is not a machine that needs jumpstarting. It is people who have objectives they want to achieve. They will not sit on their hands forever waiting for government to ‘fix’ things. Instead, they work to overcome obstacles to get what they want. Some banks are struggling, but there are still people who want to lend money and people who want to borrow it. They will find each other without government help” (http:// tinyurl.com/bgst26). But I underestimated this administration. I expected it to say, in the face of continued rising unemployment, that the “stimulus” wasn’t big enough. Instead, it claims success. I suppose I should be relieved. Getting the message It’s time for laws that ban texting by drivers Many people would just like to have government off their backs and mostly out of their lives. It’s a common refrain and not a sentiment without merit. But sometimes we need government to get involved when all other options run out. Modern technology is allowing people to stay in touch in far more interesting and convenient ways. The latest is text messaging, which means you can use your cell phone or personal communications device and send and receive worded messages. It’s a nice tool to have, but it also can be deadly. These days too many people have gone beyond mere talking on the phone when they drive and have started texting. Maybe some people can text without looking at the phone, but most cannot. And you can’t read one and watch the road. To take your eyes off the road distracts a driver and leads to accidents. How bad is it? The Obama administration reported that nearly 6,000

people were killed and a half-million injured last year in vehicle crashes connected to driver distraction. U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and other Democrats introduced legislation in July that would require states to ban texting or e-mailing while operating a moving vehicle or lose 25 percent of their annual federal highway funding. The Obama administration has not taken a position on the bill. A meeting is under way in Washington to discuss this issue and see what can be done. Before anyone suggests this is another Democratic solution to a problem of individual liberty, let’s remember that government laws ban drinking while driving or impaired because it can affect judgment and cause accidents. We require people to wear seat belts because it saves lives. People evidently are not willing to put aside their phones and pay attention to the road when the drive. They think they are not distracted, that they

can talk or handle messages while driving. It’s the other guy who can’t do both, they reason. Unfortunately thousands of people have had their lives disrupted or even ended because of such faulty logic. There is an argument to be made that people ought to be allowed at least to talk on the phone when they drive. Maybe so. But surely we can all agree that no driver should be sending text messages or reading text messages while behind the wheel. This is one of those times when we need our elected leaders to do something for the common good and get involved in an issue that is sure to become more serious and deadly. We need laws to ban texting. It won’t end the problem, but maybe it will curtail it and save lives. Not everyone who wears a seat belt or doesn’t drink and drive escapes injury. However, waiting until vehicles collide and lives are lost is too late to get this message.

Editor: The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. You have had 75 years to get it right; it is broke. Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to get it right; it is broke. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get it right; it is broke. The war on poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion

of our money is confiscated each year and transferred “to the poor.” It hasn’t worked and our entire country is broke. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You’ve had 44 years to get it right; they are broke. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to get it right; it is broke. Trillions of dollars were spent in the massive political payoffs called tarp, “the stimulus,” the omnibus appropriations act of 2009. None show any signs of working although ACORN appears to have found a new friend in the American taxpayer and to

set a new record. Cash for clunkers was established in 2009 and went broke in 2009. It took cars — the best some could afford — and replaced them with high-priced and less-affordable cars, mostly Japanese. A good percentage of the profits went out of the country. The American taxpayers take the hit for Congress’ generosity in burning $3 billion more of our money on failed experiments. County rivalry kicks off tonight Sevier County Smoky Bears, Seymour Eagles tangle for first time as conference opponents By COBEY HITCHCOCK Sports Writer SEVIERVILLE — The Sevier County High School Smoky Bears gridiron team is state ranked and undefeated at the halfway point of the 2009 season. But none of that really matters unless the team capitalizes on the opportunities they have created for themselves with the successful start to this season. Standing in the immediate way of the Bears (5-0, 2-0) goal of a return to the postseason after a twoyear hiatus is the longtime county rival and new District 2-AAA foe Seymour Eagles, a team that defeated Sevier County last season. “We’re both trying to fit into the playoff category,

whatever that may be, so every region game is very important,” said 18th-year SCHS head football coach Steve Brewer. “I expect Seymour to come in here and play us hard. They played us hard last year and beat us, so we’re going to have to match their play and execute.” The Eagles (2-3, 1-1) haven’t had as much early success as the Bears this season, but records don’t mean much when these two county rivals meet, it’s always going to be a hardhitting affair. So do the Bears have to worry about entering tonight’s contest overconfident after a perfect start to the season and a promotion to the No.9-ranked 6A team in the state this week, according to the AP prep

poll? “I want us to be confident in our abilities, but the first step to failure is overconfidence,” said Brewer. “We’ve got no reason to be overconfident against this Seymour team that beat us last year.” The bye week came at the perfect time for Sevier County. With nearly two weeks between games, the Bears were able to overcome some health issues involving the flu, not to mention the extra amount of time it allowed Sevier County to prepare for Seymour and overcome any possible homecoming distractions. “The bye week came at a good time for us,” said Brewer. “We had some people sick, but I think we’re pretty much over

that now. “It was also good to step away from competition a little bit just to work on our execution. We have had an opportunity to look at Seymour (on game film) the last week and a half, and that’s a good thing to have a few extra days to get to know your opponent. “And a point that we’ve tried to make to the players is that we don’t need to be sidetracked by a week of (homecoming) festivities. That’s for the student body. “I hope our student body gets fired up and has a good time with the homecoming festivities. GATLINBURG — The No.7-ranked Class 3A team in the state GatlinburgPittman Highlanders have been dressing up as movie stars, old timers and geeks this homecoming week, but that hasn’t distracted the team from their primary objective ... to remain undefeated and firing on all cylinders after Friday’s homecoming game against Union County as G-P prepares for an upcoming three-game district stretch against Fulton, Austin-East and Carter on the near horizon. “I think we’ve had a good week of practice,” said 38thyear G-P head football coach Benny Hammonds. “At 5-0, we don’t want to get overconfident, so we’ve tried to make this week’s practices

really hard on the boys. “We’ve had really tough practices, we’ve worked and we’ve really got a lot out of the boys. I like how they’re focussed in. “Even though we’re 5-0, we can’t quit working hard. It’s too short of a season, and it’s already half over ... so we’re just trying to set a goal of getting better each day.” What that kind of work and preparation will mean to visiting District 3-AA opponent Union County Patriots on Friday night is yet to be seen, but it could get ugly for the homecoming visitors. The Patriots (1-4, 0-1) scored 39 points in their lone victory against a weak Grainger Grizzlies team early this season, but Union County has scored just six total points in its other four contests, all losses. The Highlanders defense has been virtually impregna-

ble this season, allowing just a hair over eight points per game, while the weak part of the Blue-and-Gold team — it’s offense — is hanging more than 32 points on the board in its past four games. It’s hard to see any way the Highlanders will lose this Friday night, but G-P wants more from homecoming than just a win and a dance. “We want to continue to play well,” said Hammonds. “We don’t want to get into a situation where we have to work on things that we completely blew Friday night, when we need to be spending our time next week preparing for Fulton. “It’s important for us to play a good football game, so we don’t have to waste time on correcting mistakes.” chitchcock@themountainpress.com

By COBEY HITCHCOCK Sports Writer SEWANEE — The King’s Academy Lions gridiron squad traveled to Sewanee last Friday night and came away with a big 36-0 win over the No.16-ranked Division II Class A Sewanee Mountain Lions. TKA, the No.14-ranked Division II Class A team, was led by senior Jon Rose, who rushed for a team-leading 97 yards and three touchdowns on just five attempts and caught another four balls for an additional 69 yards. Senior QB Dane Hoffmeister completed an efficient 7-of-12 passes for 100 yards, connecting with four different receivers. Pierce Krupa added 83 rushing yards on just six totes, and William Lakatosh had 48 yards on seven attempts to go

along with Jordan Smith’s 39 yards on seven carries. Rose started the Lion romp with a 55-yard TD run with 11:19 on the first-quarter clock, making it 7-0 TKA after a successful Harrison Atchley PAT kick. Lakatosh made it 13-0 with a four-yard TD run with 2:23 in the first. Smith scored the next two times for TKA with a 20-yard run with 7:46 in the half, and with a 34-yard field goal with just 5 seconds on the board, making it 23-0 at intermission. Rose made it 29-0 with 11 minutes even in the third quarter with a 17-yard TD run. Coach Paul Mobley’s Lady Lions soccer team took a 5-1 decision Monday night at Harrogate over the J. Frank White Knights. The TKA squad used a pair of goals from Kelly Schmid and two more from teammate Ashley Pratt, along with another score from Ashley Reagan, to overwhelm the host J. Frank White team. Savonnah Sutton was also good in goal for TKA, with five saves. The Lions also took more shots, 21-9, than did the Knights. The win improved TKA to 5-7 overall. The team had dropped a 4-1 decision at Clinton last Thursday, despite playing well with the Lady Dragons to a 1-1 halftime score. “I’m proud of them, we’ve got five 8th graders and three-fourths of our team are underclassmen,� Mobley said. “We’re doing well considering what we’ve got.� TKA volleyball drops two at Maryville Christian The Lady Lions volleyball team played well last Thursday night, but dropped two games to rivals Maryville

Christian and Cleveland Christian. TKA took the middle game in a 17-25, 25-20, 21-25 loss to Cleveland. Amy Ridinger had 20 points in the game for the Academy, while Aubin Fowler added 11, and Mary Jo Fowler had five kills. The team then lost 23-25, 10-25 to Maryville Christian. In that contest Joy Lyon had eight points, while Ridinger had five.

G-P heartbreaker The G-P volleyball team lost a nail-biter Monday night to the Grainger Grizzlies three games to two. The Lady Highlanders won the opener 25-21, before losing the second 17-25. The team then rallied to take the third 25-23, before losing the fourth 18-25. In the decisive fifth game, the team battle Grainger to a tie at 10-10, but then bowed out to the Grizzlies 11-15. “We just didn’t return serve very well,� coach Mike Regan said. “Grainger is a good team, and we had to work too hard for our points.� Four players did stand out to Regan as having good

matches, however. Alicia Johnson, Emma Johnson, Kelsey Sorter and freshman Destiny Balser all drew praise from their coach for their efforts serving the ball.

Bearette v-ball wins

Students at Cocke County High School hoping to see their Lady Red cruise to an easy win in Tuesday’s inschool match with Sevier County left the game disappointed, as the Bearettes rolled to a 3-0 win over their host. The Purple and White won three straight games, 25-17, 25-11 and 25-22 to take the IMAC Conference win. Hailey Tackett was a leading force for the Bearettes with 12 points, 13 digs and eight kills, while teammate Whitney Phillips added five points, two kills, six blocks and five digs. TOKYO (AP) — An American father on a mission to reclaim his young children in Japan was arrested over their alleged abduction while they were walking to school with his ex-wife, officials said Wednesday. Christopher John Savoie snatched his two children — an 8-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl — by force Monday in the southern city of Fukuoka, shoved them into a car and drove away, said Akira Naraki, a police spokesman in the city. Dear Annie: My relationship with my younger sister is on the tip of breaking. “Lana” is 15 and habitually goes through my things and steals from me. When confronted, she becomes defensive and lies. She’s been doing this for years and shows no sign of stopping. Mom says she is “trying her hardest” to rectify the problem, but nothing changes. (Lana has also stolen from her.) Lana has taken CDs, books, clothes, personal hygiene items, gifts from friends, jewelry and money. She is not a kleptomaniac. She is just evil and spiteful. I’m convinced this would end if I could put a lock on my bedroom door, but my mother won’t hear of it. She says she doesn’t want us to live that way, but, Annie, we already live that way. I can barely afford to pay for college fees and textbooks, let alone move out and replace all my stuff. I am tempted to contact Lana’s cheerleading coach and request that she be removed from the team until she apologizes and agrees to stop, or pays me back for all the things she’s stolen. The only problem is I can’t do it anonymously and my mother would be angry if she found out. I can’t take it anymore. What do I do? -- Debbie Dear Debbie: Go to the hardware store, buy a lock and put it up yourself. Show your mother this letter, and tell her we said to do this. We don’t know if Lana has some mental health issues or is just excessively jealous of you, but if Mom can’t get her to

stop stealing, professional help might curb her more damaging behavior. We also recommend you start saving your money and find a way to move out of the house as soon as possible. It will salvage your relationship with both Mom and Lana. Dear Annie: I attended a wedding dinner at an upscale hotel. A table just outside the dining room was set up for wedding gifts. I particularly appreciated his sentence stating: “If it is prescribed by a physician and his condition monitored regularly for the purpose of improving function and maximizing potential, it is legal and beneficial.” He goes on to say if he can’t cure his patient, his next goal is to alleviate suffering. I’ve suffered a chronic and debilitating pain condition for many years. I went through the whole gamut of natural remedies (massage, acupuncture, you name it), as well as over-the-counter painkillers. Too many of us are accused of being addicts because we need painkillers to have some quality of life. There is so much media blitz about addictions and, face it, so many abusers that it hurts those of us who truly need prescription assistance.
