BEST PLACE TO GET GAS

The News

Kroger

March 10, 2016

BEST DELIVERY Papa John’s OR TAKE-OUT Pizza

Chalice Keith/The News

By Mary Bradley It’s ease of convenience and the fuel program that secured Kroger’s win for best place to get gas in this year’s Best of Murray, said Store Manager Bernie Prince. He said the fuel program discount was developed by the corporate company a few years ago and has remained firmly in place since its creation. Customers who shop at Kroger can save up fuel points throughout the month and can also score a discount at local Shell stations, too. Customers can swing by the store’s

12th Street location and redeem up to 1,000 points, saving them a dollar off gas. While Prince said he couldn’t release numbers on how many people stop to get gas, customers can line up two to three cars deep on any given day because of the valuable discounts they can get. Shoppers can save an automatic three cents by scanning their Kroger cards with or without fuel points – yet another added plus for the students that voted for the grocer. “I appreciate the students and the fact that we’re able to serve them,” Prince said.

Nahiomy Gallardo/The News

By Mary Bradley General Manager Joel Smith said he doesn’t see Papa John’s as just a restaurant, but a place where he and his employees work to truly do their best. It’s not just about churning out pizzas day-in and day-out, but rather the drive to serve the students who voted Papa John’s as best delivery or take-out for this year’s Best of Murray. Smith said if it weren’t for the students, Papa John’s and the rest of Murray would not be what it is

today. Tightly tucked in the strip mall on North 12th Street, Murray’s own Papa John’s boasts the classic Racer Special in which students can score a pie for $6, among other various deals. While the company has stores all across the nation, Smith said his store isn’t just a franchise. He said he and the employees there don’t simply do what they have to do, but they try to go above and beyond for their customers. “I try to make a difference,” he said.

BEST GETAWAY

Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area By Mary Bradley It might be the 500 miles of trails or the 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline that scored the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area its win for best get-away for this year’s Best of Murray. But then again, Communication Department Manager and Public Affairs Officer Jan Bush said there are many beautiful qualities students can and have enjoyed on the “170,000-acre

playground” that makes up the Land Between the Lakes. Trails range from easy to hard and there are bountiful opportunities to enjoy nature, whether it’s bird watching, camping or playing in the water. She said many students travel to enjoy the environment, but she said students also volunteer their time to make sure the land stays beautiful and will participate in youth programs. Bush’s own personal favor-

ite part of Land Between the Lakes includes the backyard of the Homeplace and the summer Star Parties, which are hosted by the West Kentucky Amateur Astronomers. Guests can attend a Star Party for free and can look at the night sky with various telescopes. Located less than 30 minutes away from campus, students can take advantage of the spacious and scenic area of Land Between the Lakes all year long. Nicole Ely/The News

BEST PLACE TO GET COFFEE Dunkin’ Donuts

By Kayla Harrell

Coffee is essential to the college student diet, especially with 8 a.m. classes and late night study sessions. Most students wish coffee came in an IV form or had magic powers that could diminish their intense dark under eye circles. Although these are simply wishes, the delicious taste of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee could fool one into believing in magic. Dunkin’ Donuts serves hot, iced and frozen beverages that would satisfy the taste buds of any coffee addict. The menu includes cappuccinos, lattes, espressos, macchiatos and more. Looking for a one-stop coffee shop? Look no more. Dunkin’ Donuts sells donuts and breakfast sandwiches that pair well with the

any cup of joe you purchase. The restaurant makes themed donuts around holidays, such as heart -shaped for Valentine’s Day. Lane Dyke, freshman from Benton, Kentucky, said it is a great coffee spot and enjoys the healthy breakfast options they offer. “Most of their breakfast sandwiches are on whole wheat English muffins or bagels, which I am a fan of,” Dyke said. This well-known coffee can be bought so you can smell the sweet aroma of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee being made in the comfort of your own home. Their ground coffee can be purchased packaged or in K-cup pods. This go-to coffee shop is located on North 12th Street and is open 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

BEST PLACE TO EAT BREAKFAST Cracker Barrel

By Kayla Harrell

Biscuits and gravy with sausage, bacon and eggs on the side or even the pancake lovers, Cracker Barrel is the place to get the breakfast that reminds you of home. Ryan Frost, sophomore from Fairfield, Ohio, said C r a c k e r Barrel is “hands down the best breakfast in Murray.” “ W h e r e else can you go anytime to have homestyle food like Grandma made and have a conversation with locals,” Frost said. Cracker Barrel, located on North 12th Street, serves breakfast from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Early-risers, brunchgoers and

“breakfast for dinner” types will be satisfied with this restaurant’s array of breakfast classics, ranging from savory to sweet to healthy. The three categories listed on their breakfast menu are traditional favorites, pancakes n’ such Jenny Rohl/The News and wholesome fixin’s. It is no wonder Cracker Barrel has been voted best place to eat breakfast year after year when you can share the most important meal of the day with friends, family or significant others while the fireplace warms chilled skin and the atmosphere warms hearts. C r a c k e r Barrel has to-go and pick-up options, so even busy students craving the taste of home can have this breakfast. The to-go option feeds up to six people, so grab your hungry friends and treat yourself to a (almost) homecooked meal.

BEST PLACE TO CURE A HANGOVER Cookout By Alicia Steele

Cook Out is known for its cheap and greasy food, “fancy” milkshakes and late hours, making it Murray State’s top choice for the best place to cure a hangover. The restaurant chain made its way to Murray in 2014 and was a hit with college students because of its low prices, greasy food and full “Cook Out trays.” Not to mention the milkshakes. “Cooked Outdoors Style,” is printed on all cups from Cook Out, and that slogan holds true with Cook Out offering nine kinds of char -grilled hamburgers, six kinds of char-grilled chicken breasts, homemade-style chicken strips,

quesadillas and 16 side options that almost seem like second entrees, including a BLT sandwich or a chicken wrap. Cook Out also offers almost 50 different milkshake flavors, including the classic vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. However, Cook Out also offers some oddball milkshake flavors such as the fresh watermelon, orange push up, Philadelphia cheesecake, Hi-C punch, pineapple and even peach cobbler. Tyler Long, senior from Paris, Tennessee, said Cook Out is always his and his group of friends’ “goto” spot after a night out in Murray. “There’s no better way to end the night than a $5 burger tray,” Long said.

Best of Murray BEST PLACE TO NAP AND STUDY

5

Waterfield Library

By Abby Siegel

Whether it’s the night before a midterm exam and it is time to cram, a coffee and candy bar pick-me-up while doing homework or a place to nap during a needed break between classes, Waterfield Library has been voted best place to study and to nap in Murray. With three floors and a variety of noise level restrictions, Waterfield Library is suitable for studying in groups or studying silently in a private room on the top floor. “The library is one of the best places to study because it has places where I can study by myself with no distractions, but it also has tables that allow more

Chalice Keith/The News

interaction with other people in the collaborating zone,” said Daniela Callejas, junior from Sogamoso, Colombia. Callejas spends approximately three hours in the library per day, as she is a

pre-med biology major with ambitions to become a pediatrician. Unlike Pogue Library on Murray State’s campus, Waterfield Library allows food and drinks on all levels that

can be purchased at Starbooks – a convenient shop within the library. Callejas said she likes to drink coffee and eat ice cream while she studies. When the coffee and energy drinks can’t keep students alert, the large, blue couches on the top floor are a known location to doze off-Snoring permitted. Callejas said she has napped at Waterfield Library before. She said the perfect place to nap is on the couches by the Racer Writing Center on the second floor. Waterfield Library is located in the center of campus next to Carr Health, across from the Price Doyle Fine Arts Complex and less than an eighth of a mile away from the Quad.

BEST STUDENT ORGANIZATION Alpha Gamma Delta

By Bailey Bohannan

Maddie Pellitier has been involved in Alpha Gamma Delta all four consecutive years that it has been awarded the Best of Murray for student organization. Pellitier was president of Alpha Gamma Delta last year and is very involved in the organization still. She said although the organization always encourages their girls to be involved in the community, each year they strive further to be more involved in the Murray community and give back. “We are just really excited to be recognized for all our hard work,” Pellitier said. “I think this past year we definitely have done more in

the community service aspect, but also in the upcoming year, we want to be better. We are never content with the previous years.” Community service is part of the purpose of Alpha Gamma Delta, Pellitier said. Along with philanthropies and national requirements, the Gamma Xi chapter at Murray State is constantly working to make the community of Murray a better place and make their organization known for their community involvement. “Part of our purpose is really emphasizing giving back to community, and just not only being part of community, but providing a way for our girls to get involved more with community,” Pellitier said.

BEST PLACE TO LIVE ON CAMPUS

Elizabeth Residential College After losing to Lee Clark Residential College for three consecutive years, Elizabeth Residential College has retaken hold of the reigns as best place to live on campus. Commonly referred to as Lizo, the residential college, known for its wide-open lobby and easily-accessible resident advisors, is a close-knit community of spontaneous and rambunctious residents who relish in healthy competition. Crystal Coel, college head of Lizo for 10 years, attributes the win to the residents and award-winning residence staff. “The student leaders have always been at the core of us winning some type of recognition,” she said. All colleges are considered family, and while Coel said all college heads should be saying their college has the best community, what sets Lizo apart is the students being conscious and engaged. “It’s all about collaborative effort,” she said. “We love Lizo, and we want the world to know we love Lizo.” Clark may have won for the past few years, breaking Lizo’s streak of six consecutive wins, but this year, Lizo residents made sure to vote for their home away from home. “We don’t like losing,” Coel said. “We graciously congratulated [Clark] last year, but we are thrilled we got that vote back.”

Tyler Bradley

Spending 90 percent of the time in his office instead of his room, frequently being approached to solve all kinds of roommate crises and usually having his candy bowl chock-full for hungry college kids are ingredients in the recipe of becoming the best staff member at Murray State, according to Tyler Bradley. In his short time of being residence director of Elizabeth Residential College, Bradley has received the win of best staff member, an award that he said is quite the honor. Being residence director for the college that also won best place to live on campus may be part of his reason for winning. “We have the wide-open lobby,

piano and sometimes people binge-watching Sherlock on the TV,” he said. “Having that resident-engaged population gives me an advantage of interacting with the students more.” The impact of being at the disposal of the students, no matter what wee hours of the morning, is something Bradley enjoys dedicating himself to. First year students who do not know how to do their own laundry may be lost without the guidance of the ever-present award-winning residence director. “Seeing them progress through this and learn how to be independent is something special,” Bradley said. “It’s nice to see that transformation take place over time and being able to have a role in getting them to success.”

BEST CLOTHING STORE Ribbon Chix

By Breanna Sill

“We strive for a friendly, comfortable atmosphere,” said Krista Hatchett, owner of Ribbon Chix. “The goal is a warm atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.” It seems to be working for Hatchett because this is the fourth consecutive year that Ribbon Chix has won the Best of Murray award for the best clothing store. “It’s a really good feeling knowing that someone out there likes you,” Hatchett said. “For us, this whole experience has definitely been a blessing.” Ribbon Chix sells an array of clothing for not only women, but also children. Hatchett said she thinks the store’s success can be attributed mostly to the style of clothes that they carry.

“We offer unique, trendy clothes that people are interested in,” she said. Ribbon Chix offers students and faculty 15 percent off their purchase when they present their Murray State IDs. A boutique that originally started out of Hatchett’s home has evolved into something much greater, and more successful, since 2008. Not only does the store have a large clientele base in Murray, but their clothes reach people all over the country through their more than 12,000 Instagram followers. “These days, what you do on social media is not just a media pitch,” she said. “It’s personal. What you are able to do through social media impacts your whole business.”

My Reality Tattoos & Body Piercings

By Gisselle Hernandez

After owning tattoo shops in Las Vegas, Germany, New York and even Australia, Stash moved to Murray to eventually open up his own beloved tattoo shop: My Reality Tattoos & Body Piercings. Once again, My Reality has won for best place to get a tattoo in Murray – a win that can be attributed to its familial atmosphere and laidback tattoo artists. The tattoo parlor is seen by many as something more than just a place to mark your skin for life – it’s often seen as a place where one can just walk in and do homework, a place to “chill” after a difficult day or a place to find friends who support you. “If someone’s having a bad day they can chat with us and we try to help them,” said Danielle Fera, body piercer. “It’s like a therapy session, practically.” My Reality’s aim to satisfy cus-

tomers and make them feel at home is successful, as gratitude is often expressed greatly by regulars, who turn into family. The tattoo shop displays a wall adorned with graduation cards, thank you cards and even remembrance cards of regulars who died. Apart from creating such a downto-earth ambiance, My Reality strives to turn customers’ dreams into reality, a goal that inspired its name. “[At My Reality] it’s never boring; the best part is meeting people,” Stash said. “Every day is an adventure.”

BEST BURGER, BEER ON TAP Tap 216 By Breanna Sill

McKenna Dosier/The News

To be one of Murray’s new kids on the block, Tap 216 has filled a void that some Murray State students think had been a long time coming. “I just like the atmosphere,” said Justin Knight, junior from Norris City, Illinois. “I don’t think there is anything else like it in Murray, and I think it was something that the city needed to spice things up.” Not only does the establishment offer students the accessi-

bility of being next to campus, they also offer a menu style that is hardly rivaled by many of Murray’s other chain restaurants, like Cracker Barrel or Applebee’s, which may have something to do with why Murray State students voted Tap 216 as having the Best Burgers in town. “I always order The Gentry burger when I eat at Tap,” Knight said. “The Gentry is a big, meaty cheeseburger with a slice of pepperoni pizza inside and a chick-

en strip on the top. Where else can you find something as crazy as that?” Tap 216 was not just voted to have the best burger in town, they also were voted as having the best beer on tap, which makes it live up to its name. “I like that they have pint nights from different local or semi-local breweries,” Knight said. “Everything is fairly-priced compared to the rest of the town and there is almost always something new to try.”

The Cutting Edge is more than just a creatively-named hair salon. With warm, inviting tones and a friendly staff, The Cutting Edge has won “best hair salon.” For Sydney Tibbs, senior from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, The Cutting Edge was a convenient choice. She said that when the time came for her to get a trim, she knew of the salon because it was the one she sees the most. She said it was clean, and she would definitely recommend it. “They were able to get me in even though I didn’t have an appointment,” she said. “When she sat me down, she was really specific with asking me what I wanted and telling me what she was planning.” Tibbs said that when she went in for a trim they were thorough and welcoming. The Cutting Edge may have an edgy name, but stop by and they will take care of you with a friendly attitude.

St. Leo Catholic Church began its thriving parish 73 years ago. Today, the parish has more than 420 registered families and has been voted “best place to worship.” “I grew up going to St. Leo,” said Elizabeth Hernandez, junior from Murray. “I had my first communion there and my confirmation. St. Leo is where my family goes, and it is like a home to us.” Hernandez said she cherishes St. Leo because it provides constant support to everyone in the parish. It is the only Roman Catholic Church in Murray and strives to welcome all children of God. The church participates in several ministries such as adult faith formation and the Catholic Campus Ministry. St. Leo uses this quote by author Joe Paprocki as a guiding post: “Faith formation is more than a subject to be taught – it is an invitation to a way of life.”

After 25 years of service to the Murray community, Harlan Automotive has been voted “best automotive repair shop.” The automotive shop is a family-owned and run business that has a mission of taking care of people and the cars they drive. “The automotive industry is constantly evolving, and our goal is to evolve with it,” said Mike Harlan, owner of Harlan Automotive. Harlan said his love for automotive repair came when he began fixing up his first car: a 1973 Chevrolet Camaro. He bought the car coming back from Spring Break, thinking he was going to drive the car back to Oklahoma, until he realized a friend had taken the engine apart. Harlan would have to put the engine back together. Over the years, he has completely restored the 1973 Chevrolet Camaro, and he is in love with it.

According to Business Insider, that means it has opened on average, two restaurants per day since it opened in

Subway

1965. Subway offers an ample supply of healthy meal options, including: flatbreads, salads, pizzas and, of course, sub sandwiches. BEST TRADITION The Shoe Tree

By Sarah Combs

Emily Harris/The News

The Murray Dairy Queen opens for the season March 1, which always draws a crowd. how excited people get to find it open again every year on March 1. “Everybody gets really excited when we open, we get really busy,” Greer

said. “And when we close in the fall it’s a big deal too.” Dairy Queen opened it’s windows March 1 and is open through Oct. 31.

Located in front of Pogue Library, the Shoe Tree is a lover’s tradition on the campus of Murray State. The tradition is believed to bring good luck to couples who find love through meeting as students at the university. According to the tradition, after a couple’s wedding, they nail one of their shoes together on the tree and that will bring luck to

their marriage. Some couples have added their children’s shoes to the tree as well as they start families together. Recently, the shoes were moved to a new tree because the older tree was beginning to deteriorate. While there have been several shoe trees in Murray State’s history, the tradition continues to live on in the Quad. The tree has become so well-known that it

was ranked as the No. 3 romantic tradition on college campuses by College Ranker in 2015, falling behind the Upham Arch at Miami University in Ohio and the Rose Well House at Indiana University. Logan and Stevie Stout are proud to be a part of the tradition. “It’s part of the fabric and tradition of Murray State University,” said the Stouts. “It’s just really cool.”

BEST MEXICAN FOOD Los Portales

March 10, 2016

BEST LOCAL BAND SixFortyOne

By Connor Jaschen

Jenny Rohl/The News

By Connor Jaschen For yet another year, Los Portales has won the title of “Best Mexican Food.” While the restaurant is no stranger to the award, it comes after an interesting year, in the midst of a change in venue and an ever-expanding

menu. Now located at 1506 Lowes Drive, Los Portales maintains its dedication to serving the community of Murray with the most authentic Mexican cuisine available. Shelby Gore, sophomore from Eminence, Indiana, said she thinks Los Portales has found a niche in the commu-

nity with its welcoming atmosphere. “It is a very clean place to eat,” Gore said. “And has a great atmosphere, which you don’t get at other restaurants in Murray.” With the closing of Agave and boasting a four-star rating on Yelp.com, Andrew

Melton, junior from Louisville, Kentucky, said their food puts them leaps and bounds ahead of most competitors still in the area. “They offer the best Mexican cuisine in Murray and they’re pretty good with working with people when they have food allergies,” Melton said.

When Austin Gee, junior from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Brooks Hoffman, junior from L o u i s v i l l e , Kentucky, met for Alpha Omicron Pi’s Mr. MSU competition in 2014, neither had any idea where one philanthropy event could take them. Now the duo has taken the title of best local band. Since the pair teamed up in the form of SixFortyOne in the summer of 2015, they have made quick work of garnering support, not only from the

Murray community, but also from the music industry at large. Now the country singing duo have made strides to produce their first EP in hopes of furthering their musical ambitions. Working with – though not signed by – a Nashvillebased record label is just the first stop in what the duo hopes to be a long career in music-making. “We won because we play local bars that many of our friends go to,” SixFortyOne said as a joint statement. “We have an immense amount of support from our peers.”

Cambridge Apartments won this year’s title of “best place to live off campus,” beating out the heavyweight competition of places like Campus Evolution and Station 74. While the apartment complexes themselves may not have many of the fancier aspects of their competitors, Jason Riley, owner of more than 20 Cambridge properties, said the reason they win came down to simpler aspects of off campus living. “You’ve got nice places and you’ve got great landlords,” Riley said. “Everyone takes care of their properties and nothing gets neglected.” Will Simpson, recent graduate of

Cambridge Apartments

Murray State and former resident of Cambridge, said low prices, combined with the student-friendly atmosphere, make Cambridge Murray State students’ first stop when looking for a place to live. “It’s affordable,” Simpson said. “And a lot of college students live there. Since it isn’t solely for students, though, you get a good mix of students and the rest of the Murray community.” Upon reflection, Simpson said he can’t think of a better place for students to live. “I don’t think I would have wanted to spend my college years anywhere else,” Simpson said. “Living at Cambridge had a lot to do with that, I think.”

BEST GOLF COURSE

Mama Nancy’s Cabs

Francis E. Miller Memorial Golf Course By Sarah Combs The Francis E. Miller Memorial Golf Course is located on Pottertown Road. The course measures 6,592 acres of recreational and competitive fun and has two different set of nines that cater to separate aspects of the game. The difference in versatility is what makes the course the Best of Murray. The longest hole measures 535 yards and the shortest measures 171 yards on automatically-watered Bermuda grass. The course offers several amenities, including two-level practice tee, 315-yard driving range, golf carts, club repair and a snack bar located in the pro shop.

The first set of nines focuses on “pinpoint accuracy from tee to green.” The other “rewards length and accurate long-iron play.” The course caters to guest and senior tee times, junior and students tee times and 9-hole tee times. “Miller Golf Course is the best playing course in Murray,” wrote Crystal Hammond-Morrow in a review on Facebook. “The staff at Miller are all accommodating, friendly and fantabulous.” The course received its name after Frances Emerson Miller, L.D. Miller’s late wife who was an avid golfer. L.D. Miller was a Murray State alumnus and a businessman in Murray.

When driving around the streets of Murray, it is guaranteed people will spot a Mama Nancy cab delivering passengers to their destination. Becki Hurless, senior driver for Mama Nancy’s, said the entire staff is loyal to their job and tries to make the cabbing experience a satisfying one. This loyalty, she believes, is the reason they won “best taxi service.” Hurless has been with the company the longest, on and off for 10 years and consistently for the past six years. She said she loves her job, and that an average day working can be best described as “chaotic but pleasurable.” Students may not know all that goes on behind the scenes for a taxi driver, but Hurless says her work environment is just awesome and while working she has gained valuable experiences. “I’ve learned so much about other places

from interacting with the international students and all of the students, really,” she said. This conversational and personal touch that many Mama Nancy drivers deliver is something Hurless said she prides herself on. “We want to thank Murray State for choosing us again this year,” she said. “We hope to be here and support Murray State for many years to come.”

BEST PLACE TO TAKE A DATE

Jasmine Thai Cuisine and Sushi Bar By Brianna Willis

When people walk into Jasmine Thai Cuisine and Sushi Bar, hosts and hostesses welcome them into the restaurant. Dim lighting sets the mood for patrons as they are seated in comfortable booths or sleek tables. Chief Operating Officer David Szemeredy said this attention to detail and atmosphere is why he believes Jasmine has won “best place to take a date” for consecutive years. “People feel they have been taken out of small town America and transported somewhere else,”

he said. “It makes it kind of something, it is something different.” He said that looking at details and constantly improving sets Jasmine apart from competitors. Szemeredy said that his employees are passionate and want to deliver the high standard set for customers. Szemeredy said he wouldn’t reveal the secret to running a successful restaurant, however he did give one tip. “I think the most important thing is teamwork,” he said. “Our staff here care. They care about this

place and have a passion for it.” Jasmine has won numerous awards in the past and won “best place to take a date” last year. Szemeredy said that treating customers well and delivering a unique experience is the reason they continue to shine as Murray’s date restaurant. “When people want to go out on a weekend night or spend their hard-earned money and they see all that we put into the experience,” he said. “And we treat our customers like family, and I think that is why they keep coming back.”

BEST FACULTY MEMBER Bob Long

By Da’Sha Tuck The role of faculty is less about the curriculum than it is about developing the student as a person and it is about character and confidence, said retiring professor Bob Long. Long, nonprofit leadership professor, was voted Murray State’s favorite faculty member by the student-body. “If we (faculty) can help the students think, communicate and develop themselves and develop the confidence and courage it takes to go do this work then we’ve probably done a really good thing,” Long said. “I suspect, because that is true, that might be why students selected me for something like this.” Students say Long is an impactful professor. “The first day I walked into Dr. Long’s class he knew my name before I introduced myself,” said Brett Eisenhauer, sophomore nonprofit student from

Mahomet, Illinois. “It made me feel very special that Dr. Long took the time to do that.” Long said it is important to let students know he is investing in them personally. He said one aspect of that is making sure to learn each student’s name. When the spring semester concludes, Long will end his 8-year teaching career. His students said they battled to make sure to be in at least one of his courses this semester because he is leaving. He said he plans to travel with his wife and finish a few books he has been working on, but he will miss his students tremendously. “The most impactful thing about my career is students four or five years out and the kind of work they are doing and the impact they are having on peoples’ lives and that is really remarkable,” Long said. “It is a privilege to play this role.”

BEST BOOKSTORE

University Bookstore By Alicia Steele

The University Store is a one-stop shop for any Murray State student, faculty, staff or parent looking for textbooks, school supplies, the newest Murray State apparel, Greek apparel, computer software or even Advil and Dayquil to get students through an aching headache or the common cold. Thus, the University Store was voted “best bookstore” in Murray by the university community. Karol Hardison, director of the University Store, said she would like to thank their Student Advisory Board and student workers for sharing their ideas of what students need and what students would like to see in the store. Hardison also said the University Store was recently “recognized by Connect 2 One as one of the ‘Best of the Best’ (top 10 percent) in providing and implementing programs to reduce the cost of education for our students.” She said last year the University Store processed 87,400 transactions. “Thank you for this great honor,” Hardison told The Murray State News upon hearing that the University Store had again won Best Bookstore.
