1 Myer Centre Adelaide At the heart of the scene is our home. Rundle Mall’s largest shopping centre, the Myer Centre Adelaide contains a mixture of shops and businesses, from recently reimagined The London on North Terrace through to the specialty technology store MOVE on the Ground Floor. Make sure you sample the fantastic mix of delicious snacks from food underground! 2

Rundle Mall is Adelaide’s premiere shopping district right in the heart of the city. And as the finishing touches to the upgrade of the mall are completed, new and exciting businesses are starting to pop-up such as small bar, Lindes Lane. These new members of our community are fast becoming favourite attractions, just like the three pigs and Bert Flugelman’s Spheres (the Mall’s Balls). 3 Free Tram King William Street splits our city into equal halves. The tram, which runs along it, is FREE and a great way to move between the Adelaide Central Markets in the south to the Adelaide Oval in the north.

4 Mayfair Hotel The old Colonial Mutual Life building on the corner of King William and Hindley Street has recently reopened as the boutique hotel Mayfair. We particularly love to look at the building’s Gargoyles.

Continuing your walk north, a trip to Adelaide’s Riverbank is a new must-do. Walking by the iconic Festival Theatre you’ll see the recently completed footbridge. Our tip: head to this area to see it illuminated at night. 10 Adelaide Oval
5 Hains & Co. Exploring Adelaide’s ever-changing sidestreets reveals hidden gems like this small bar with a maritime twist. While the drinks are good, it’s the service we love. Sit at the window and watch the expert bartenders mix up some superb swill.
It’s perfect timing as Adelaide comes alive for footy season. The recently re-developed Adelaide Oval now attracts sell-out crowds to Crows and Power games. There’s no doubt our neighbourhood is best enjoyed on a Friday evening with the roar of a homeground advantage in the background.

If technology were a person it would be the smart one, the complex character, the know-it-all, but would it be the fashionable one? Thanks to new technology store MOVE, being a nerd has never been more stylish. A bright and engaging space puts the products into context
Great labels on show
The functional, modular furniture makes the shop easy to navigate, while staff are readily available to answer your tech queries
Volume 1, Issue 1. Winter - 2015
Established in 2013 in Sydney, the fash-tech store MOVE has finally come to South Australia with backing by electronics guru Dick Smith. Adelaideans can now gear up and get tech sassy on the ground floor of the Myer Centre. MOVE Adelaide manager, Holly Allen, explains the concept of the store, suggesting technology products have become an extension of our personality. “What’s great about MOVE is that it’s home to an extensive range of fash-tech items so shoppers can find a product to suit their needs and individual flair,” says Holly. Whether it’s the latest in technical appliances such as phones, laptops or cameras, or the hottest in fash-tech wearable accessories, cases or designer products, MOVE lives up to its name by keeping apace with fashion and technology trends. “Technology and fashion are always innovating, transforming and moving and it makes sense for MOVE to harness this gap in the market and give the consumer what they want,” says Holly. This is no more evident than in MOVE’s philosophy of collaboration. MOVE has successfully collaborated with influential Australian fashion designers and style icons such as Dion Lee, We Are Handsome, Romance was Born and Alexandra Spencer of 4th and Bleeker. When asked what her personal favourite accessory of the moving moment was, the Mighty Purse took the tech cake. Available in an array of different colours, the Mighty Purse has a built in phonecharger to save you from the dreaded one percent warning. The MOVE Adelaide store has a colourful, stylish and fun atmosphere, which helps give context to the amazing array of innovative products. “It’s all about customer interaction that stimulates the shopper’s style senses, from the products in stock, the music played and the aroma pumped into the store,” says Holly.

Commute by bike

The thought of cycling in the city can be intimidating for newcomers. And the idea of getting hot and sweaty just before you’re due to meet a fabulous friend or sit down next to your cerebral colleagues might turn you off the idea of commuting by bike. Lucky the Myer Centre’s Pedal, Prep & Go! is here to allay such silly concerns.

The prospect of wearing lycra gets my thighs heading for the hills. But, on the other hand, paying for parking in the city makes my wallet grow legs and run right after them. I have never been what you would call, “a seasoned cyclist” but biking to town makes more and more sense to me.

A quick tap of the swipe card and the door swung open on the clean and spacious locker room, with bike racks and storage compartments. Counting the other bikes in the room, I felt I was in good company and, checking my watch, amongst some early risers! To complete my commute I felt I had to test out the showers. After a rigorous ride it was my civic duty to ensure the rest of my day was not spoiled by undesirable odour or sticky skin. Of course showering in a public place was even more foreign to me than riding to town. I know it’s routine for my fellow commuters, but for me it was a tad terrifying. Opening the shower rooms I was instantly relieved by the design, which sees two large rooms separated by heavy doors and a brick wall. Closing the door behind me felt completely comfortable, I even caught myself giggling at my sense of achievement. I don’t know too many of my friends who could say they’ve showered in public! Unwanted odours rinsed away and newly
acquired helmet hair fixed, I’m off, out and into the city without any suspicion that I was contemplating lycra body suits just a short time earlier. Whether you work in the city, go to Uni across the road or are a shopaholic-foodenthusiast like me and call the city your home, riding your bike and parking it in the Myer Centre will save you money, get you fit and lower your carbon footprint. Glory hallelujah! If I can get out from behind the steering wheel and up on the bike, then trust me – anyone can Pedal, Prep & Go!

What do your jeans say about you?
Hello, New Season
Volume 1, Issue 1. Winter - 2015
DNM DNA Jeans – they’re in our culture. Your denim may as well be an extension of your personality, an identity signal we transmit almost every time we leave the house. Everyone has their favourite pair of jeans but what do yours say about you? Words:
Iona MacLean & Josh Fanning Photography:
Sven Kovac Jeans:
Myer
HIS original jeans Levi Strauss and John Davis met sometime in the 1890s in San Francisco and patented a sturdy construction method for pants where rivets were used at points of strain in trousers - thus making them more durable. An original jean wearer will undoubtedly wear Levis and probably the famous lot number: 501. You’re an old-fashioned type of guy. You walk on the road-side of the footpath when escorting a girl down the street. You hold doors open and pick up the bill, you might do a spot of gambling and can even enjoy the odd cigar.

HER boyfriend jeans
Big Star Boyfriend $179
Potentially a style born out of necessity, the boyfriend jean has turned from an improvised ad-lib of desperation to a fashion must-have. If you were one of the original boyfriend jean wearers you are probably a bit of a free-spirited rebel. However, the modern day boyfriend jean gal is more a creature of comfort. Those super skinny leg jeans that she had to squeeze her butt into for years made her feel like a poorly stuffed sausage. The boyfriend jean wearer has a more throwntogether appearance with an effortlessly cool and causal look. Whilst these jeans go great with a pair of flats or kicks, paired with heels is a juxtaposition that comes strongly recommended.
Wrangler “Pins” super skinny $139.95
HER flared jeans
HER skinny jeans
Yes, flared jeans have made a comeback. Again. I prefer to think of this renaissance though as a comeback from the 70s rather than the 2002-Christina-Aguilera-inripped-chaps version. If you are a flared jean girl perhaps you have an infatuation with the bell-bottom jeans of the 60s and 70s or maybe you are merely nostalgic and paying homage to your old MCL Face Off flares of the early 2000s. Whatever the case may be, why not don a pair this winter (minus the dirty denim – that’s a skeleton in your closet that should stay there).
The skinny jean girl is confident with her bottom half assets and doesn’t mind that her pants look painted on - the tighter the better right?. She’s unfazed if it means discreetly undoing the top button at dinner. The skinny jean is the most versatile in the jeans world - they can be like a denim chameleon, changing their skin according to the situation - casual, sexy, grungy or girl next door. I believe the most important feature of the skinny jean is the back pocket detailing. The culture is in the stitching so wear it proudly on your bum.
Guess Baredevil Boot $70.00
HIS stovepipe jeans
HIS baggy jeans
Skinny jean wearing men are almost always radical in some way. Early pioneers, like those guys who played in hair-metal revival bands and indie pop groups, would actually steal their girlfriends’ jeans to go out in. Lucky to avoid the moniker ‘girlfriend jeans’, skinny jean wearers are undoubtedly comfortable with their sexuality and see neither floral shirts nor long hair as feminine things. In actual fact your version of masculinity lies somewhere between Rick James and Mick Jagger - you’re a man with swagger!
A look popularised in the ’90s through the highly stylised rap music era, baggy jeans were once a form of rebellion. Now though, baggy jeans are more of a statement about values. You definitely still listen to rap but now you probably call it Hip Hop - you’re educated and listen to Joe Rogan podcasts too. You also have concerns about individual freedoms and might be following the Edward Snowden saga closely, possibly while writing your own computer code. You’re a smart dude and to you, being smart means keeping a comfortable amount of space between your legs and the fabric of your pants end of story. JAG Dean relaxed $99.95

Bloggers we love
Hello, New Season
Volume 1, Issue 1. Winter - 2015
Blog slog with Emilia Skuza She’s the model who still eats bread and cheese and the blogger who doesn’t care too much about fashion. We catch up with Emilia Skuza to talk life since being discovered by IMG at the Myer Centre.
Hello, New Season: You were discovered by IMG during A Myer Centre Model Search in 2008. How has your life changed since then and has it been a whirlwind journey? Emilia Skuza: I was 15 when I won the Myer Centre Model Search, and I got in trouble at school because I missed out on rehearsals for a drama play in order to go. Naturally my life has changed a lot since then, but I met some scouts from IMG there and got signed to my mother agent Finesse, so it did give me quite a good start in the industry.
Bloggers we love
Where is the most mind-blowing place modelling has taken you? I once shot with a photographer at her country home in a little town an hour out of Paris. The house was a converted horse stable, and I stayed the night there with her and her family. It was the quintessential rustic wood-fire/bread/cheese experience.
wilddarts.com
What inspired your quirky blog name Notre Lame? The name kind of represents the ethos of the blog; I don’t want to be a blogger that takes fashion too seriously. I also don’t feel like I fit into a lot of categories that are deemed typically cool. I’m just a 22-year-old girl who doesn’t really care for socialising all the time and stresses out about uni too much. I hope that people who look at my blog and social media can relate to that, especially young girls who are learning to love themselves for who they really are instead of trying to fit into the norm. I have a little sister and I always think of her when I post things. What’s your lamest guilty pleasures? Bed socks. My mum buys them for me sometimes when I visit her in Adelaide, haha.
Which recent book has stayed with you? My dad gave me his copy of One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez to read over summer, which I fell in love with. It’s quite a magical book; so mind-blowingly detailed and well written. What will you definitely have in your wardrobe this winter? An abundance of textured knits and socks and hopefully a pair of pinstripe pants. Oh, and low cut doc martens.
If you could live in any era, what one would it be and why? I’d like to go back to the 1920s for a night, wear the outfits. I’m Who are you listening to at the moment? a hopeless romantic. Hozier. notrelame.com.au Pics of Emilia by Ivan Budah
