CENTRAL FLORIDA IS ON THE MOVE
year, Beep and NAVYA hosted a first-of-its-kind training for nearly 100 emergency personnel from both Orange County and City of Orlando fire rescue, EMT, and police departments. The training taught the attendees how to interact with the vehicle in emergency situations and included a hands-on session on how to drive the vehicle manually if needed.
In addition to supporting improved mobility in Central Florida, Lake Nona’s new autonomous shuttle service supports the state’s ambitions to become a national leader in autonomous vehicle testing. Florida recently passed laws to help build the state’s autonomous vehicle industry by bringing more businesses to the state for autonomous testing. Lake Nona, Beep, and NAVYA join a growing list of public and private companies exploring innovative solutions to improve connectivity within this community and beyond.
LAKE NONA AUTONOMOUS SHUTTLES On September 18, the region’s first autonomous shuttles began service in Lake Nona. Orlando’s fastest-growing community now has two fully electric, driverless shuttles in service that operate daily connecting Lake Nona Town Center with Laureate Park’s neighborhood Village Center. Together, with local company Beep and shuttle manufacturer NAVYA, Lake Nona’s autonomous shuttles are the first in Central Florida to provide this new service. Lake Nona’s shuttles each hold up to 10 passengers and will operate at a maximum speed of 15 mph. The shuttles operate daily from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and 6 - 10 p.m. though hours may change as the shuttles become more integrated with traffic flow. Eventually, the plan is to increase the number of shuttles and expand the route network in the future. Lake Nona’s autonomous shuttles are operated by Lake Nona-based mobility solutions company Beep and manufactured by French company NAVYA, a global leader in autonomous vehicles. Earlier this year, the two companies announced an innovative development partnership for shared mobility and autonomous vehicle research. Lake Nona’s autonomous shuttle service is the first pilot deployment of the research partnership. “We are very excited to announce the deployment of our autonomous mobility services in Lake Nona,” said Beep CEO Joe Moye. “This is a significant milestone for Beep, our partners, and urban mobility altogether. We are pleased to work with Lake Nona, the City of Orlando and Orange County to deliver this cutting-edge transportation solution to the community.” The shuttles are monitored in Beep’s headquarters and central command center located in Lake Nona Town Center. The command center’s sophisticated system uses the latest technology to monitor the movement and operation of each shuttle providing valuable data that will continually optimize vehicle performance. Each autonomous shuttle is equipped with interior and exterior cameras while also optimizing navigation and safety features. The Beep command center can also communicate with the onboard shuttle attendant at any time. Though the shuttles are driverless, a Beep shuttle attendant will be on the shuttle at all times during operation to ensure riders have a pleasant and safe experience. In May of this

Debuting Central Florida’s first autonomous shuttles further demonstrates Lake Nona’s commitment to testing new technology within its living lab where companies, organizations, and entrepreneurs convene to explore new trends and ideas. From a first-of-its-kind partnership with the public school system and YMCA to a longitudinal health study for residents, and now with providing the region’s first driverless shuttles, Lake Nona continues to be a model of what a smart and connected community can accomplish. “In Lake Nona, we dreamed of creating an infrastructure that would enable tomorrow’s innovators to thrive… tomorrow is here!” said Tavistock Group Senior Managing Director Rasesh Thakkar. “As proof, we’re excited to advance, along with our two visionary Mayors, the relationship with Beep and NAVYA creating the region’s first autonomous shuttle program launching the future of mobility.” The autonomous shuttle service is the first transportation option within Lake Nona’s new Move Nona initiative – a bold new approach to transportation providing residents and visitors with a variety of efficient and inter-connected ways to get around the 17-square-mile community. STAYING ON TRACK WITH YOUR HEALTH GOALS Ever wonder why it is so easy to get discouraged and give up when it comes to achieving our health goals? I see it many times: people start strong, eager, and excited for change. Then 3-6 months down the road, the cycle starts all over. Why do you think that is? Research suggests that one of the reasons people give up is not having accountability and/or support. Whether that’s to themselves or others. Here are some ways you can combat that! Not having a good support system can be detrimental to your goals. When you’re trying to eat healthy, but the rest of your family wants dish deep pizza, it is easy to give in to the temptation. Friends that encourage you to stay out late and have another drink - knowing you have to get up early for a run - are not going to help you attain your goal. Sometimes that lack of support isn’t coming from our friends and family. Sometimes it comes from within. If you suffer from low self-esteem and don’t believe in yourself that you CAN accomplish those goals, you will self-destruct.

industry for 40 years plus. This has allowed us to become a reliable
and dependable one-stop-shop for all your automotive needs. Not only do we take care of our customers vehicles and get them back on
the road, but we are here to help with any questions you have. After an accident many people are not sure how to go about the claim or
repair process. At Shamrock we will walk you through that process from start to finish. With the years of experience inside Shamrock we have seen it all, heard it all and dealt with it all.
I want to talk about a few common questions we get daily along with
some Do’s and Don’ts when dealing with the Insurance Claim and Repair of your vehicle. The biggest question we hear at Shamrock is “Will my insurance cover that?” It is very easy to get confused or mislead when buying automobile insurance. Below are your common insurance coverages you can have on your policies. 1 Liability coverage
Liability coverage is required in most US states as a legal requirement
to drive a car. Liability insurance may help cover damages for injuries and property damage to others for which you become legally responsible resulting from a covered accident.
Uninsured motorist insurance
Uninsured motorist insurance can protect you and your car against
uninsured drivers and hit-and-run accidents. This coverage is often paired with underinsured motorist insurance. Underinsured motorist insurance
Many drivers choose to carry the minimum in liability coverage to save
money, but this might not provide enough coverage. Underinsured motorist insurance can protect you in the event of an accident with a driver whose insurance is not enough to cover the costs. Personal injury protection insurance
Personal injury protection insurance may cover certain medical expenses and loss of income resulting from a covered accident.
Depending on the limits of a policy, personal injury protection could
cover as much as 80% of medical and other expenses stemming from a covered accident.
Towing and labor insurance
Available if you already have comprehensive car insurance, towing
and labor insurance may reimburse you for a tow and for the labor costs to repair your vehicle.
Rental reimbursement insurance
Figuring out how to get around after an accident can be expensive. Rental reimbursement insurance helps pay for a rental car if your vehicle cannot be driven after an accident.
The insurances above are available to everyone and can be added
Collision insurance
Collision insurance may cover damage to your car after an accident
involving another vehicle and may help to repair or replace a covered vehicle.
Comprehensive insurance
for damage to your car due to incidents besides collisions, including
to your policy. If you have further questions regarding coverage, we recommend calling your insurance agent. You should also talk to your
insurance agent before making any changes to your policy. If you are involved in an accident that is your fault you would need Collision
Comprehensive insurance can provide an extra level of coverage in
Coverage to have the insurance company take care of the repairs of your vehicle.
There are a lot of misconceptions about Insurance coverage and what comes with it. As you have read there are a lot of different types
of insurance available. One of the biggest misconceptions we see is Rental Coverage. Your insurance policy does not automatically come with rental coverage. Rental coverage needs to be added on and we
urge you to do so. Rental coverage on your policy may cost anywhere
from $5 to $9 extra a month. This will ensure you have a vehicle to drive while your vehicle is getting repaired. Without this you will be paying out of pocket and it can cost up to $30 / Day! That can add up as your vehicle is in the shop. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RENTAL ON YOUR POLICY!
As confusing as it can be to deal with your insurance company after an accident, the accident itself is a very over whelming situation. Now

that you know a little of what to ask for with your Insurance Company,
I would like to go over a few Do’s and Don’ts when dealing with the accident and repair process. For most, dealing with a car accident is
all new to them and can be very scary. At Shamrock we are always
here to help and extend our knowledge to you. We want to make sure this whole event goes as smooth as possible. Please call us
after an accident if you need advice on what to do next. Our years of experience are here to help you.
We hear a lot of “I got his or her information but now they are saying it
wasn’t their fault.” Make sure to always get a Police Report at the scene of an accident. Exchanging information is important but may not be
sufficient after you leave the accident site. A Police Report will have all the information needed to get an insurance claim started and show who was at fault. Once the claim is established and a claim number has been issued you will need to bring the vehicle to a Collision Repair Center to get the repairs started. Insurance companies have
preferred shops that they work with and will always urge you to go to those shops. Understand you are the consumer and have the right to
take your vehicle to any repair facility you want. It does not have to be a preferred shop by that insurance company. BEWARE of phrases like these below that you will hear the claims handler make.
“By going to a preferred shop or direct repair facility we can guarantee the work that is completed.” This a false statement. The work is warrantied and guaranteed by the Body Shop not by the Insurance company. We as a Repair Facility guarantee all repairs. “If you go to a preferred shop or direct repair facility, we can make sure the repairs are expedited.” Shops may push this insurance company a little more than others if they are a preferred shop or direct repair facility for them but overall if you choose a reputable
shop, they will make sure your repairs are done in a timely manner. All repairs are treated equally and given the same amount of attention. “When going through XYZ Insurance we use these select shops, which one would you like to go to?” If you have a shop that you would like to go to but is not on the insurance companies “list” you can go to that shop. The Insurance companies do no have the right to tell you where to take your vehicle for repairs. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO GO WHERE YOU WANT!
We see these issues and hear these stories outlined in this article day after day. Our goal is to take our experience in this industry and educate the general public. We have been guiding and helping our
community for 19 years and aren’t going to stop now. Reach out to our team at Shamrock Auto Body if you ever have a question about what
to do during an accident, after an accident or how to deal with your insurance company.

CAN IRON BE YOUR REASON? VIVIANA GILL, MPH, MCN, RD, LD INPATIENT CLINICAL DIETITIAN ORLANDO VA MEDICAL CENTER
Are you feeling tired, fatigued or having difficulty concentrating on tasks? Are you a woman of childbearing age? Although saying “yes” to these questions may simply mean that you happen to be a mom, it can also be a symptom of iron deficiency. Iron is a mineral needed for immunity, growth, and essential in making red blood cells, which are responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body.1 You may also have heard that school age children who are iron deficient have more trouble concentrating at school and it may even impair cognitive development. Eating a variety of foods generally prevents nutritional deficiencies, however certain populations such as infants, teenage girls, pregnant women, and people with heavy blood loss or malabsorption disorders can be at higher risk.2 One of the most common nutritional deficiencies worldwide is iron deficiency anemia (IDA), and generally women and children are at a higher risk than men.1 In the United States, data from the National Health and Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 to 2010 estimates that 15.1% of toddlers, 16.3% of pregnant women and 10.4% of non-pregnant women were iron deficient.3 At first glance, this may not seem like an alarming statistic, but iron deficiency is also associated with poor diet and often accompanied by other nutrient deficiencies. Dietary recommendations for iron intake vary according to age, gender, and pregnant or lactating status.1,4 Pregnant women have the highest iron requirements due to substantial amounts needed to support the growing baby. In fact, iron deficiency can increase the risk of premature birth and low birthweight, which may lead to developmental problems after birth.4 Iron comes in two different forms: heme and non-heme iron. Meats, poultry and seafood are rich in heme iron, which is highly bioavailable, whereas plant-based iron food sources have non-heme iron, which is affected by other dietary factors. Certain diets that restrict animal protein have an even higher requirement for iron, as plant-based iron sources have lower absorption rates.1,5 In order to improve absorption of non-heme iron, you can either include complementary foods that are rich in Vitamin C or pair them with poultry, meat or fish. Additionally, certain iron- fortified foods may be a great way to increase your intake.1,5 Look at the Daily Value (DV%) on your nutrition label for foods containing 20% of iron or more. Every bite counts! The good news is that IDA is relatively easy to screen during a doctor’s visit with a complete blood count laboratory test. Generally, a hemoglobin of less than 12 g/dl in women and less than 5th percentile-for-age in children can suggest that further testing is needed to determine if iron deficiency is present.1,4,5 Iron saturation and serum ferritin levels would give your provider further information to target iron supplementation. Keep in mind that iron is only one of the many nutrients that are needed for a healthy
pregnancy and during life stages of growth and development, therefore it is important to evaluate diet adequacy to identify other areas that may need improvement. Some populations may still benefit from supplementation, even after optimizing their dietary intake. So if you are still wondering why you feel so weak and fatigued all the time, consider trying some of these iron-rich snacks and give your doc a call!

Q&A 1. What is the We Dare to Care Foundation? It is a 501 3 (c ) charity that was set up to help the City of St. Cloud police officers, firefighters and city employees in need along with local charities. The board consists of 9 members who run the charity. We have no paid employees or administrative costs. 2. What was the inspiration behind the foundation? In 2012, one of officers was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He has a 12 year old child and a 9 month old infant. We decided to do a Mud Run to raise money for his family. We raised approximately $40,000. We also donated some of the proceeds to the Special Olympics of Florida. After this event we decide to continue to raise money for people and charities in need. 3. Who are the Founding Fathers of We Dare to Care? Mark Harper and Vinny Shepard are the ones who founded We Dare to Care, along with Mike Reilly Sr., Peter Gauntlett, Norm Envall and Kevin Burkard. 4. You hold multiple charitable events throughout the year such as The Mud Run, Golf Tournament and Poker Tournaments. Can you give us more details on these events? The Robo Mud Run is the largest event that we hold which takes place on the last weekend of June each year. It is a 6 mile course that includes mud, water/mud slide, ice crawl through a dumpster of ice, various walls & obstacles and a 100 yard swim. A yearly scramble golf tournament is held at Royal St. Cloud Golf Club. A yearly poker/casino night is held at the St. Cloud Civic Center. Lastly, our Halloween run is held the weekend before Halloween. 5. The Jingle Bell Ball is coming up in November 2019. What is the event about and whom does it benefit? The Jingle Bell Ball will be held on November 9th. This event is a gala where guests bring a toy for children and there is no cost to attend. The toys are given out to children who are in need and would not get presents otherwise. We provide gifts to the children in the Guardian Ad litem program. We also provide toys to the churches and schools that have identified children in need. 6. Tell us about the different experiences you’ve had and what it has given back to you founding this charity. We have been able to help pay for a heart transplant for a 9 year old, brain surgery for a 7 year old, heart surgery for an infant and a double lung transplant for a gentleman who actually ran\waked the mud run after his transplant. Donations to have

been made to St. Cloud Cares, the Food Pantry, Special Olympics of Florida, National Transplant foundation, Center Florida Cancer Research, My Beloved Widows and American Legion. Additionally we have provided funding for families that lost young children to cancer, paid for the funeral of 11 year who died in a fire, and donated money to the families of two murdered Kissimmee Police Officers. Being able to help people in need and seeing the looks on their faces are rewarding. We are happy to be able to help out people who have no other means of assistance. It is hard at times meeting the children and seeing how brave they are and then they end up succumbing to the illness. But we all get so much more out of charity than we can ever give. 7. What is the goal for the upcoming Jingle Bell Ball? The goal is to collect toys and raise funds to provide gifts to 2,500 needy families throughout Osceola County. Of course, we would love to surpass this goal with your readers help! 8. How can people donate or get involved? You can help by dropping off an unwrapped toy or gift cards to one of our drop off locations. We provide toys to infants all the way up to children who are 17 years old. Gift cards are great for the older kids so they can buy items they need on a daily basis. People can donate at We Dare to Care website www.facebook.com/ wedaretocareinc/ and click on www.paypal.com/us/fundraiser/ charity/2413592. Or mail checks made out to We Dare to Care to St. Cloud Police Department 4700 Neptune Road 34769, care of VinnyShepard. 9. Where are the toy drop off locations? ARE YOU SETTLING AT YOUR DOCTOR’S OFFICE? YOU D ES ER V E A B ETTER EXPERIENCE! From poor customer service to questionable expertise to poor outcomes - there is a laundry list of reasons why people are less and less impressed when they go to the doctor. But, should that be taken as the “new norm” in healthcare? We don’t think so. Poor customer service. We’ve all been greeted through the sliding glass of the front desk with a “less than enthusiastic attitude,” where we’re lucky if eye contact is even made. Then, there’s that favorable hour wait time while we drift slowly into madness to finally see the doctor for an entire 5 minutes and leave with an array of unanswered questions and most likely a, “Take this medicine and follow up with me in 4 weeks.” There is a huge gap between what we should experience and what we have come to expect. At Regen, we take pride in treating our clients as our top priority. We take the time to consider every one of your needs and make our engagements intimate to ensure your experience is one that is personable. We achieve this by giving you a warm welcome and our undivided attention the minute you walk in our door. A tour of our state of the art facility with a personal introduction to our team, to the one on one attention you receive from a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Physical Therapy, our goal is that you feel important, comfortable, and confident that you are in the hands of a team of experts. In a world where our expectations are rarely met, Regen strives to exceed them. Questionable expertise. Unfortunately, healthcare is becoming a hodgepodge of healthcare providers offering services they may not be qualified to offer. None of us would expect to go to an auto mechanic to be offered a root canal. Do your research when it comes to the services offered in any particular office and who is the most qualified person to offer them. For example: Just because a certain healthcare provider offers “stem cell therapy” that doesn’t necessarily mean they are qualified to perform a procedure on your spine using “stem cells.” If someone says they offer “physical therapy,” are they indeed a physical therapist? As consumers, we should be asking about our healthcare provider’s qualifications and training. Our facility is staffed with professionals who are expertly trained in their fields. From our physical rehabilitation team with over 20 years experience collectively to Dr. Cherukupally, who has specialized training in sports medicine, spine treatments, and regenerative medicine and who has performed well over 17,000 non-surgical joint and spine procedures. We are here to provide you with the right treatment and the right provider for your condition.
“Going to Regen was an entirely different experience. I really felt they understood my physical issue at an extremely deep level and was able to address my specific needs quickly”
Poor outcomes. When you go to a healthcare provider you expect to get better, right? But do you expect your healthcare provider to spend the necessary time with you talking about the best options available? You should. Better yet, what does the most up to date research tell you about what actually works. The “quick fix” isn’t always going to give you the best outcome. Currently, medication, steroid injections and surgery are touted as the only available options; however, these are not producing the best long-term outcomes. What they could instead promote is addiction to narcotics, short term relief, or a lifetime of pain. DID YOU KNOW: current research suggests that a knee surgery, regardless of how minor or invasive, makes you 60x more likely to develop arthritic changes in your knee as you age. There are circumstances where surgery is necessary; however, that should be your last option whenever possible. In a world where science gives us so much and the body has such a profound way of healing itself, we should be looking to capitalize! Research on stem cell therapy and regenerative medicine continue to show promising potential for natural healing of soft tissue, joint, and spine injuries. Physical therapy and exercise continue to have the most positive outcome data for dealing with chronic pain such as low back pain, bursitis, and tendinitis. At Regen, we will continue to make it our mission to stay at the forefront of advancements in non surgical healing. If you or anyone you know has been through the mill of treatments and still has pain or dysfunction, we would love to be able to help. “The therapist spent an entire hour just with me. This was really different than the 5 to 10 minutes that I had been getting at the other office. Within the 1st session, I felt less pain and better function. I then decided to try a stem cell injection in my hip and Dr Cherukupally was amazing! Knowing that she had done hundreds, if not thousands of injections before is important to me. I want to make sure that whoever I go to is experienced! I had no hesitation with Dr C. Within 3 weeks, I started feeling better. Thank you so much for bringing me back to functioning again! ~Rachel Romano
