Culminating Activity: Nuclear Energy Letter Prompt

As the United States looks to increase electricity production while cutting greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the use of nuclear energy is one option. Write a persuasive letter to a local or state representative presenting your position for or against nuclear energy.

Your letter should have three parts, while following proper format for persuasive writing. ƒExplain your understanding of energy and why this is an important topic. ƒExplain your understanding of how a nuclear power plant works. ƒState your position for or against the use of nuclear energy. Support your position with at least three reasons and at least two pieces of evidence for each reason. Clearly communicate your position so that the representative might be persuaded to agree with you and think about your letter when he or she makes energy policy recommendations and decisions. This may include discussing and refuting possible counter arguments.
