Journey Through Creativity and Culture

Growing up in Cluj-Napoca, how did the culture and history of Transylvania influence your passion for storytelling?

rowing up in Cluj-Napoca, I was deeply immersed in Transylvania's rich culture and history, which ignited my passion for storytelling. With its captivating blend of myths, medieval architecture, and contemporary life, the region felt like a space where the past and present harmoniously coexist. The dramatic Carpathian landscape and the interplay of various cultures and languages instilled an innate appreciation for narrative and multiculturalism.

Can you share how your early experiences as a volunteer at a local news station shaped your career in journalism?

My journey in television began at the age of 17 as a volunteer at a local news station, a pivotal experience that significantly shaped my career in journalism. This role provided me with

hands-on exposure to the fast-paced world of news production, where I learned the importance of teamwork, meeting deadlines, and crafting clear, accurate stories under pressure. Most importantly, this early immersion in a newsroom deepened my passion for storytelling and solidified my commitment to the field of journalism. It's these early experiences that often shape our future, and I'm grateful for the lessons they taught me.

What was your experience like working on major productions like "Romania's Got Talent" and "The Voice"? What did you learn from those roles?

Working on prominent productions such as "Romania's Got Talent" and "The Voice" was a thrilling and immensely rewarding experience. Collaborating with artists from diverse backgrounds—singers, dancers, and performers—was truly inspiring and infused the set with vibrant energy. Engaging in these

high-energy, large-scale shows imparted invaluable lessons about teamwork, time management, and the critical importance of attention to detail. With numerous moving parts—from live performances to behind-the-scenes coordination—I quickly grasped the necessity of clear communication and swift problemsolving in a dynamic environment. Furthermore, I developed a profound appreciation for the creative process and the dedication required to deliver a polished product. Each role, whether a minor technical task or showcasing talent on stage, plays a crucial part in the show's success. This professional journey also laid the groundwork for my personal film documentary project, "Freedom Station."

Your backpacking trip to India seemed transformative. Can you describe how that journey changed your perspective on storytelling and culture?

y backpacking trip to India was indeed transformative, particularly in reshaping my understanding of storytelling and culture. Immersed in such a diverse and vibrant environment, I discovered that each region in India possesses its own unique stories, traditions, and modes of expressing identity. In the north, I was captivated by the ancient myths and the way they were woven into everyday interactions. In the south, I was fascinated by the vibrant colours and rituals that expressed the local identity. I learned that storytelling transcends mere words; it resides in the colours, rituals, cuisine, and even the way people greet one another. During my month-long visit in November 2016, coinciding with significant ATM disruptions due to the government's demonetisation initiative, I encountered unique challenges. After enduring 30 hours of flights and layovers, I arrived only to find I had no access to funds. This experience taught me how to navigate a crisis far from home, in a culture that was initially daunting to explore. It instilled a sense of courage within me that

ultimately altered the course of my life. Upon returning to Bucharest, where I had lived for five years, I made the bold decision to leave my decade-long career in television and relocate to London to start anew. I embraced the belief that if I could traverse India during such turbulent times, I could accomplish anything on my own, anywhere in the world.

How did your experiences while traveling contribute to your understanding of resilience and strength?

have been solo traveling for many years, exploring diverse destinations such as Indonesia, Singapore, Dubai, Morocco, and South Africa. These travels have profoundly enriched my understanding of resilience and strength. Each journey has presented its own challenges, whether navigating unfamiliar environments, overcoming language barriers, or dealing with unexpected situations. Such experiences have taught me the necessity of adaptability and quick thinking—both essential components of resilience. I have come to realise that true strength lies not just in overcoming obstacles but also in embracing vulnerability and seeking assistance when needed. Moreover, connecting with individuals from various backgrounds has illuminated the diverse forms of strength that people embody in their lives. Hearing their stories of perseverance has inspired me to cultivate a deeper sense of empathy and appreciation for the human spirit. Through travel, one cannot remain oblivious to others' challenges; it fosters tolerance and understanding.

Relocating to London must have been a significant shift. What were some of the biggest challenges you faced during this transition?

Relocating to London marked a significant turning point in my life, accompanied by a myriad of challenges. One of the most daunting struggles was my lack of confidence in my English language skills. As a journalist in my home country, where communication

was my passion, this insecurity greatly impacted my self-esteem. This fear hindered my ability to apply for jobs in the television or film industry, resulting in several years of working during the day at a school for children with autism while taking on restaurant jobs that often kept me busy until 2 a.m. The most challenging aspect was not merely the financial strain of adjusting after enjoying a comfortable lifestyle in Romania but also the prolonged loss of confidence. Reflecting on those experiences now, I perceive them differently. I am grateful for the courage I exhibited in leaving behind a comfortable and successful life to forge a new path through challenges that ultimately fortified my character.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought many challenges. How did it impact your creative process and the development of Freedom Station?

The COVID-19 pandemic introduced a profound sense of loss and immense pain that temporarily halted my creative process. At one point, I turned to art as a crucial tool for healing. The idea for "Freedom Station" had been percolating in my mind since my arrival in London, but it began to take clearer shape during a period of grief. The pandemic, with its restrictions and uncertainties, provided a unique opportunity to delve deeper into my creative pursuits. I made the conscious decision to channel my healing into creativity, which propelled me to start producing cinematic videos that showcase talented artists. My aim was to share the stories behind the art scene in a realistic and inspiring manner.

Can you explain what Freedom Station represents for you and how it connects to your personal journey of loss and healing?

Grief and loss are challenging to articulate, but I can confidently say that "Freedom Station" is where I channel my most vibrant energy. It has facilitated my reconnection with my true self, particularly during times when I felt out of sync with my surroundings. If I were to describe it as I would on the website, I would

say that "Freedom Station" is a creative project centered around inspirational storytelling. While we all appreciate the art showcased on stages, in concerts, and in museums, our team focuses on the life behind the scenes: the passion, hard work, and determination of creative individuals. Personally, I perceive it as a project that continues to heal me because I cherish every aspect of the process. I eagerly anticipate securing funding so I can create content consistently, rather than just one documentary every few months.

In what ways do you incorporate multicultural perspectives into your work, and why is this important to you?

hold a strong belief in multiculturalism, as it reveals both our differences and our shared humanity. Our differences enrich life, while our common experiences remind us of our interconnectedness. I take pleasure in learning from various cultures and embracing what resonates with me from each place I visit. In my work, I prioritise representing a variety of cultures and art forms when selecting stories and artists. For instance, my first episode features the talented half-French, halfJamaican ballerina and contemporary dancer Salome Pressac, while my upcoming documentary will highlight an Argentine visual artist. By sharing art from around the globe, we foster connections among people through our shared passion for creativity.

Your background in ballroom dancing is quite unique. How has this experience influenced your artistic expression and storytelling?

My background in ballroom dancing has been instrumental in shaping my passion for diverse art forms. I still feel most authentic when I dance, even though I no longer perform at a professional level. Overall, my dance experience has afforded me a unique perspective in creating and narrating stories, allowing me to blend movement and emotion to engage audiences on a deeper level.

As an artist committed to multiculturalism, how do you ensure diverse voices are represented in your projects?

As an artist dedicated to multiculturalism, I ensure diverse voices are represented in my projects by actively seeking collaborators from various cultural backgrounds. I engage with communities to understand their narratives, enabling me to authentically reflect their experiences.

What themes do you find yourself drawn to in your documentary series, and why are they significant to you?

My current focus revolves around the art and storytelling behind the scenes. After many years of working on television talent shows like "Romania's Got Talent," "The Voice," and "Voice Kids," I have witnessed the incredible effort that goes into performances lasting mere minutes. This experience inspired me to launch "Freedom Station," a platform dedicated to showcasing the hard work, passion, and dedication of creative individuals. Through this project, I share inspirational stories from the creative world, reminding us all to pursue our dreams and engage in activities that truly fulfil us. The art industry can often be unpredictable, but those who persist in their passion and bring joy to audiences deserve recognition. I initiated "Freedom Station" with no budget, relying on the creativity and support of close friends who contributed their time. I invested my savings into producing the first four episodes as a portfolio, hoping to attract funding or donations to sustain this dream and continue sharing these powerful stories.

How do you define the connection between art and empathy in your work?

In my film documentaries—whether they feature cinematic portraits of painters, contemporary dancers, or other creatives— empathy is paramount. I perceive my work as more than merely documenting artistic processes; it is about capturing the human

emotions, struggles, and passions that shape these artists and their journeys. Empathy serves as the lens through which I approach each story, enabling me to connect deeply with the individuals I film, understanding their motivations, challenges, and vulnerabilities. This empathy, in turn, allows me to convey those feelings to the audience, creating a shared emotional experience. By focusing on the person behind the art, I aim to inspire viewers not only to appreciate the finished piece but also to relate to the emotional depth, dedication, and humanity that fuels it.

What role does collaboration play in your creative projects, and how do you choose who to work with?

ollaboration is essential to my projects. I prefer to work with individuals who are genuinely passionate about their craft and open to transparent communication. Collaborating with others introduces fresh ideas, skills, and energy that help shape the project's vision. It is crucial that my collaborators possess both technical expertise and a genuine connection to the project. Trust, a shared vision, and creative alignment are fundamental to the success of our collaborations.

How do you envision the future of your documentary series and its impact on audiences?

I envision "Freedom Station" evolving to connect stories and individuals from around the globe, united by inspiration and motivation. My goal is to produce short documentaries alongside behind-the-scenes content and engaging conversations about art. I aim to inspire others and encourage them to take risks in pursuit of their dreams. When I moved to London, I left behind a comfortable life for a more challenging path. Many were skeptical of my decision to abandon a successful career and start anew in a different city, but I take pride in having the courage and patience to follow this journey.

Can you discuss any mentors or figures who have inspired you throughout your journey?

Most of my close friends form a supportive and inspiring network for me. Many are involved in the creative field, leading to constructive conversations filled with innovative ideas. Their love and encouragement are invaluable, and it is essential to surround oneself with those who uplift dreams rather than confine them due to their own limitations. Additionally, I have friends who operate successful businesses in practical sectors like technology. Their insights provide me with a realistic, business-oriented perspective, which has greatly informed my understanding over the past few years.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists and storytellers who want to make a difference through their work?

My advice is simple: just go for it! If you are engaged in something that energises you rather than depletes you, that's a clear indication to pursue it. We are here to have experiences that evoke profound emotions. Allowing fear of judgment or an aversion to risk to hold us back from our passions only trades vibrant energy for anxiety. Choose the emotions you wish to embrace in your life.

Lastly, what message do you hope to convey through your art, and how do you want it to resonate with people from different backgrounds?

I aspire for my work to resonate with individuals from diverse backgrounds by highlighting shared human experiences that transcend cultural differences. I envision my art to inspire, motivate, and empower viewers to take action in their own lives. Everyone who is currently succeeding in their projects began at the very start, just like anyone else.
