Vegreville Fire Department Awards Scholarship

Vegreville Fire Department awards scholarships to students who want to obtain post-secondary studies at college or university. Shannon Bowler, Firefighter and Chair of Scholarship Committee said any student out of high school who is a resident of Vegreville that applied for post-secondary school and has been accepted into a post-secondary institution for schooling can get this scholarship.

“We look for a student who did a lot of community service and what they have done in the community to better the community. Then we look at where their future careers might possibly take them. It was a difficult decision on who to choose this year because we had a lot of good candidates.”

Scholarship recipient and Vegreville Grade 12 student Devon Yanitski said it was an honour to receive the scholarship, and that it is provides a great opportunity to advance his studies to the best of his ability. He will putting the $1,000 scholarship to help offset tuition. He is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program at the University of Alberta.
