Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit Investigate Suspicious Death in Mundare

Mundare, Alta. – On Feb. 19, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Vegreville RCMP responded to a report of a house fire on 49 Street in Mundare. The fire department extinguished the fire and located human remains inside the residence.  

 At this time, the circumstances around the death have been deemed suspicious.  The Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit has been deployed to take carriage of the investigation with the assistance of Vegreville RCMP and St. Paul Forensic Identification Services.

The identity of the remains is currently unknown and an autopsy is scheduled to be completed on Feb. 21, 2024, at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.

 RCMP are seeking public assistance in this investigation. If you were a witness to the fire or have dashcam footage of Highway 16 in the area of Mundare from Feb. 19, 2024, between 2:00 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. you are asked to contact the Vegreville RCMP at 780-585-3767 or your local police if you have any information about this incident.
