Children's Writing Competition Award Presentation

Children’s involvement in the Ukrainian culture is so important because they will be the ones to preserve the finest aspects of this culture. The theme for this year’s Pysanka Festival was traditional Ukrainian ritual breads. So, Vegreville Cultural Association had a writing competition where they invited students from grades one to grade nine to write about Ukrainian Christmas, Easter, and wedding breads.

On July 5 at the Vegreville Ukrainian Pysanka Festival, Representative for Vegreville Cultural

Association, Larissa Bombak presented the winners of the Children’s Writing Competition with their certificates and prizes. The winners who were announced were all from A.L. Horton School except if mentioned otherwise. The winners from Grades 1-2-First Place-Emily Wiebe, Second Place for Grade One was Jake Hayduk, Third Place with ties was Andrea Stark and Markian Olineck. The winners for Grades 3-4 First Place went to Everleigh Taylor who is in Grade 3 at Victoria School of the Arts, Grades 5-6 First Place winner was Sadie Kuzio, Second Place was Gavin Worobec and Third Place was Ava Grykaliak.
