Fathers cement their families together through their strength, love, and care. So, it is fitting to have a day and an event set aside which supplies and indulges fathers with all their favourite people, items and activities. The 27th Annual Father’s Day Event at Vegreville Agriculture Grounds on June 16 was crowded with citizens of all ages as it featured all this and more while it rode with exhilaration and fun.

Upon entering, people noticed the Show and Shine where the grounds were adorned with over 150 ravishing and well-kept vintage vehicles of every sort and kind whether it was vintage convertibles, muscle cars, pre-50’s cars and trucks, foreign vehicles, antique tractors, Rat-Rods, vintage and custom motorcycles, Antique snowmobiles, big-rig semis, vehicles from ‘Bone Wagon’ hearse display, and other vehicles, as well as, the garden scale and model train railroads display (which was inside one of the buildings). These vehicles were judged later where participants could win for various categories.

Many fathers were with their young children. Jordan Charuk was with his daughter, Avery Charuk. Avery said her father is special because he reads a lot of books to her. He’s kind, loving, and cool. He runs around the house with her and he plays tag and hide-and-seek. She especially loves golfing with her Dad.

Terry Skiftun was with his two sons, Sam and Ben. Ben said his dad is special because he spends a lot of time with him. Ben really likes farming with his dad. Sam said he likes to spend time with his dad on the farm and he thinks his father is cool because he plays with Sam’s toys with him.

Next, spectators and racers became full of adrenaline as they watched or participated in the Demolition Derby where between heats there were Lawn Mower races, and Youth Power Wheels Derby, and more. This event started with the Best Dressed event for Demolition Derby’s vehicles. Prizes were available for the winners of all of these fastmoving competitions.

For hungry folks, food vendors were available and for people ready to shop, there was a Mini-Market Trade Show. As well, there was a dunk tank on the grounds which raised money for local charities.

This event was brought to the community by The Vegreville Iron Runners Auto Club and Vegreville Agricultural Society and all their volunteers, as well as, the many sponsors where the major sponsor was Bumper to Bumper Veg Auto & Industrial Supply Ltd.
