Our youth will be the ones who will carry on the honoring and remembering of Canada’s veterans. So, a respectful Remembrance Day Ceremony was presented at Vegreville Composite High School (VCHS) on November 8.
The Mistress and Master of Ceremonies were the students-Zoe Rogers and Haneef Amusat.
This ceremony followed the traditional Remembrance Day Ceremonies style as it opened with a processional (March on the Colors) entering the gymnasium which was followed by the Instrumental Band for VCHS which was led by Band Teacher, Mr. Barkwell.
Principal of VCHS, Rod Leatherdale presented his message next where he said Remembrance Day is a day to remember the sacrifices and contributions of the millions of men and women who have served our country; service and sacrifice that provided and continues to provide freedom and safety that exists in this great country, as well, theirimportant contributions and role in peacekeeping.
The MC’s continued on to mention the anniversaries we are celebrating this year which included the 75th Anniversary of the Italian Campaign where many Canadian soldiers served in Italy. The presentation of a short video was next.
Comrade and Honors & Awards Chairperson for RCL Branch No. 39, Rod Stewart then read an Act of Remembrance poem.
This ceremony also included the Last Post and Reveille performed by Shade Clark which was followed by two minutes of silence, the VCHS Instrumental Band performing Londonderry Air and Every Day Now, and Eyad Mostafa read In Flanders Fields.
Wrapping up the ceremonies was the wreath-laying and Recessional when the March on the Colors left the gymnasium.
