Installation of a new $60,000 roofing system at the Mundare Arena began in mid-September.

Mundare Agricultural Society President Peter Polischuk said the upgrades are “long overdue” and he is looking forward to the opening of the skating season on Oct. 15.

The arena was built in 1974 and is home to several minor hockey and adult recreational hockey teams. Polischuk says players range in age from 5 years to 50 years. The agricultural society also offers public skating sessions and provides rental of its meeting room.

Polischuk said partial funding for the project was received under the Community Facility Enhancement Program. The general contractor for the project is Vegreville based Vantage Builders Ltd.
