Origin Of The Lund Name
The modern day South African Lunds are of Scandinavian descent, and are direct descendants of the Vikings from the Middle Ages, hence the company name, Viking Deco. Rest assured, the family does not rebel and raid as history would suggest. The Lund name itself has a very interesting meaning…
In the early 1800s, Gustav Lund joins his uncle, the captain of a ship, on a voyage to India. During the trip Gustav gets ill with Scurvy. His uncle makes the decision to drop Gustav off at Cape Town to receive medical attention and get better with the idea that on the way back from India, Gustav will be picked up again. Gustav, being the hardworking man that he is, sets out to work after getting better. He would do odd jobs, and once finished, continue on his way. This would go on for quite a while, and finally he ended up in Kommetjie where he worked at a general store, and finally bought it and named it “Lund’s Shop”.
According to various sources, the name Lund means, “Man that lives in the woods “or “Man that works with wood from the forest”. The Lund family was not aware of this significant meaning of their name until much later into the existence of the company. It was almost as if we answered a calling by working with our hands and wood.
“We strongly believe that this is the reason why we are so passionate about what we do, and also why we are so good at it,” says Piet.
Clients
“There is one thing you learn above all else with 32 years and 1000s of clients behind you, and that is that your customer service has to be on point. Whether it’s at the start where a client only requires a quote or after sales support, we strive to leave each and every client happier at the end of a job with a quality product,” Piet continues.
What Makes Viking Deco Unique
“Besides our customer service, which we are extremely proud of, what makes us unique is that from the start you deal directly with the directors and not a sales rep or a team leader. We hold ourselves to a higher standard, thus as business owners, we are accountable for everything that happens in or around a client’s home. One of the directors is also always on site with a team, while site work is being conducted and to answer any questions clients might have,” Piet concludes.
