In 2013, his heart stopped after a devastating cycling crash during a race in the unforgiving Italian Alps. Doctors told him he’d never cycle again. But Grant proved them wrong. Through twelve surgeries and nearly ten years of pushing his body to its absolute limit, he not only got back on the bike but became an unstoppable force for good, raising millions for underprivileged children and inspiring countless others with his unbreakable spirit.

And now, with the release of his much-anticipated autobiography, Riding Life, co-authored by acclaimed UK author David Gardner, Grant’s story takes centre stage as he shares how he overcame impossible odds to achieve greatness.

This book is more than just a story - it’s a call to action for anyone facing insurmountable odds or struggling to find hope in a world full of darkness. With Riding Life, Grant seeks to inspire us all to reach beyond what we think is possible and tap into the boundless potential within us.

“I always knew the time would come to put pen to paper, but I decided to wait until such time that I can work with a reputable international author. That opportunity came in 2020 in the midst of the global pandemic when Unite Health Share Ministry (UHSM), US based health share organization founded on Christian values and principals, offered to sponsor my first US Im’possible Tour in 2022, as well as this book. It has been a remarkable privilege and a truly blessed experience,” says Lottering. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be moved, inspired, and forever changed by one man’s incredible journey.

Grant Lottering is scheduled to present his book at the Franschhoek Literary Festival on May 19th from 2:30-3:30 pm at the Church Hall in Franschhoek.

DR MAYE MUSK - HONORARY DOCTORATE - BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO HER

contribution to a particular field or society. It is based on generous and altruistic actions or lifetime accomplishments that benefit a community, nation, or humanity in general - Dr Musk meets these criteria and is a worthy recipient.

Paving the way for many to follow in her footsteps, Dr Musk was the first dietitian to run a website, and the only dietitian to take the registration exams in three countries. Her passion for nutrition and empowerment has seen her speak at events around the world.

In addition to her skills, Dr Musk’s leadership traits pivoted her into being the first Representative of the Consulting Dietitians of South Africa, President of the Consulting Dietitians of Canada, and Chair of the Nutrition Entrepreneurs, Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition. She has run her own nutrition business in eight cities and three countries for more than 45 years.

After attending the graduation ceremony in Bloemfontein, Musk travelled to Cape Town, where she met with Miss South Africa 2014, Rolene Strauss. In a video shared on Strauss’ social media, the pair embrace, while Strauss points out a few things they share in common.

Dr Musk says being conferred this honorary degree is the best thing that could have happened to her. She was conferred an honorary doctorate in Dietetics on 12 April on the Bloemfontein Campus.

Prof Francis Petersen, Rector and Vice-Chancellor of the UFS, said honorary doctorates are bestowed upon individuals in recognition of their outstanding

“We are from Kovsies, we are South African, then, the other thing is, something that very few people might know, and that is that you actually speak Afrikaans,” Strauss says before Musk agrees. “Ek kan Afrikaans praat.” “How amazing is that?” Strauss continued. Dr Musk adds: “Dit is wonderlik!”

YOU DON'T NEED TO BE FAMOUS TO INSPIRE OTHERS

Inspiration is often associated with celebrities, politicians, and other well-known figures in our society. However, being famous is not a prerequisite for inspiring others. Inspiration can come from anyone, regardless of their social status, age, or profession.

Every day, ordinary people do extraordinary things that have the power to inspire others. It could be a teacher who goes above and beyond to help a struggling student, a parent who sacrifices their own needs for their family, or a friend who lends a listening ear when someone is going through a tough time. These actions may seem small, but they can have a profound impact on those around them.

One does not need fame or fortune to make a difference in someone’s life. It can be as simple as a kind word, a supportive gesture, or a selfless act. These actions can create a ripple effect that inspires others to do the same. The power of inspiration lies not in the status of the person, but in the impact they make.

Sometimes the most inspiring people are those who have overcome adversity. They may not have started with privilege or resources, but through hard work, determination, and resilience, they have achieved their goals. Their stories of triumph can inspire others to persevere and chase their dreams, no matter how challenging the road may be.

Inspiration can come from anyone, anywhere, and at any time. Your actions, no matter how small, can have a significant impact on someone’s life. Always strive to be a positive influence on those around you, and you may just inspire someone to do the same.
