Learn as much as you can while you are young, since life becomes too busy later. ~Dana Stewart Scott If a doctor, lawyer, or dentist had 40 people in his office at one time, all of whom had different needs, and some of whom didn’t want to be there and were causing trouble, and the doctor, lawyer, or dentist, without assistance, had to treat them all with professional excellence for nine months, then he might have some conception of the classroom teacher’s job. ~Donald D. FROM THE PUBLISHERS Holy August where did July go? Just a distant memory - but what a memory! July is now officially my most favourite month because it will always be the month my little girl Aleesha became a beautiful married lady. Her July wedding was one of the most beautiful life events I could have imagined. Todd and Aleesha are so perfect, just like the wedding. I wish you both the biggest, best and most wonderful life together. On a different note the Chestermere water festival, show and shine and Langdon days were a rip-roaring success and they could not have asked for lovelier days for both events. I hope you all took the opportunity to experience these wonderful local events. A lot of hard work from volunteers goes into organizing these annual extra ordinary fun days for all to enjoy – remember you really need to support the communities you live in including all the businesses who really count on you to make their businesses survive. Now that July is sadly behind us, it is time to enjoy August and spend the last lazy days of summer with your family. I can hardly wait for the “Summer of Rock” which is an annual concert with all proceeds going to the Kids Cancer Care Foundation. Check out page 32 for all the details, see you there! We at the Newsy Neighbor really hope you are enjoying your summer and have the best August ever, before you know it, it will be September – Oh Yuck – back to school. Check out the family pages and all the fun stuff you can do before the dreaded back to school date arrives. Take care and enjoy all the extra time with your special family. By: Kathryn Hartwell

SPECIAL NOTICE TO ALL OUR VALUED ADVERTISERS & READERS We are proud to announce we are expanding to N.E. Calgary. Not only will your businesses be advertised to the 17,000 homes and businesses east of Calgary, but now your business will also be advertised to Montery, Pineridge, Rundle, Sunridge, Airways Park, Deerfoot Park, Franklin, Marlborough, Applewood, Dover, Erinwoods, and Foothills Industrial. An additional 3,000 copies will be distributed to start, totaling 20,000 copies of the magazine monthly. This number will continue to grow.
We have decided to do this to contribute to the growth of the economies in our towns by bringing the Calgary residents out to our businesses and events! We went to a meeting with the town of Strathmore not too long ago and we were part of a discussion on how the towns wanted to promote more to the Calgary population, and this is our way of helping. We feel this is a very positive step for the growth of the magazine and promotion for our advertisers. As our first responsibility is to all our current advertisers, no Calgary business that would be in competition with your business will be allowed into the magazine. Our focus is and always will be the towns and villages east of Calgary. Kathryn Hartwell, Aleesha Gosling & Denise Geremia

Yerba Mate grows naturally in the rich, red soil found under the canopy of the South America rainforest. The indigenous tribal people of Brazil make an energizing social beverage by infusing the dried Yerber Mate leaves in water. They have been drinking Yerba Mate instead of coffee for many generations and believe that sharing this herbal tea induces mental clarity and stamina. The Mate factors teas are a combination of Yerba Mate, Japanese Sensha, Canadian Gensing and Echinacea to create this anti-oxidant rich blend. TThese ingredients are traditionally used to ease mental and body fatigue while restoring health and supporting the body while under stress. Echinacea is knows to prevent illness and stimulate the immune system. Find these wonderful teas in many different flavours at Hidden Secrets. www.thenewsyneighbor.com

Let the sunshine shine because summer is finally here! And what better way to escape the
heat than a dip in the pool? Swimming is a great activity for children and adults of all ages! Not only is it one of the most effective forms of exercise but it can also be relaxing as it soothes the mind and body. Fun, quality time can be spent with friends and/or family as well. The Strathmore Aquatic Centre is pleased to offer many public and family swim times throughout the summer months. Swimming lessons are also being offered throughout July and August. Please visit www.strathmore.ca for weekly pool schedules, the summer swimming lesson schedule and for facility rules and regulations. The pool will be closed from August 30th to approximately September 15th for annual maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We hope to see you here this summer! The Pool Crew

SUMMER TIME & BACK TO SCHOOL
AUGUST FAMILY PAGE
I HATE TO BREAK THE NEWS (to our student readers) but by the time you receive our August issue, it will be less than a month until you go back to school. I love that commercial with the Dad dancing through the aisles buying school supplies and the kids with their long faces – I laugh every time I see it. TRY TO WIPE THE SMILE from your face (to the parents). Summer is a wonderful time for family bonding and since there is less than a month left before back to school, there is no better time to get some extra bonding in now. I have found quite a few really great and fun ideas for the whole family. Try and get your school shopping done early, saving the last week or so for FUN and relaxation! MOVIE NIGHT
Pick a movie everyone wants to see (good luck!!). We seem to have the best luck with something funny – everyone likes to laugh. Make this an event. Get lots of junk food, make lots of popcorn and give them special “movie tickets” the day before. Make this a special night for your family to spend together! Make an ice cream cake or cupcakes – I have included some really easy recipes. I had no idea how easy it was to make ice cream cake!
SUNDAY BRUNCH
We all know how hard it is to get the whole family together for a meal. I know mine are always coming and going – busy doing this and that. But the one time we all seems to be together is Sunday, even though they like to sleep in reeeally late – hence – Sunday Brunch. Everyone can help with the prep work and clean up. Put some music on, sit at the kitchen table, and make it simple. Bacon, Eggs and Pancakes.
I really love this idea: KID’S CALENDAR Who said only the Federal Government can create a Holiday or special event day? At the first of every month give your kids a calendar they can write on and ask them to create some family and personal holidays for themselves. For instance, every Sunday is Ice Cream Sundae Day, or every Friday night Dad Takes Mom Out For Dinner!! That would be nice. Get them to use their imaginations and you may be surprised what they come up with.
AN ADVENTURE WALK
If you can coax your children out the door away from their computer for a walk this is really fun. Take a loonie with you, when you go through the front door flip the coin – heads turn right – tails turn left, at each corner flip the coin to decide where you go next – who knows where you will end up – you may end up at the corner store, so take money with you.
By Kathryn Hartwell
AWARDS NIGHT
Pick an evening when everyone will be home, and then choose a special meal that everyone can participate in preparing and clean-up, something easy like homemade pizza and homemade ice cream cake. Let the kids know which night the event is happening and each person in the family must decorate a piece of paper for each member of the family saying why they love that person and what they like about them the most and anything else they would like to include. While you are eating supper each person can read their special notes to each other. No Crying – this is supposed to be fun and it will surely bring you all closer together and maybe get to know each other better. You might be surprised what you hear.
I NEVER KNEW ICE CREAM CAKE WAS SO EASY RECIPE A big bowl – chilled Eggbeater or stand mixer ½ pint of heavy cream or store bought whipped cream Vanilla extract Powdered sugar Any kind of cookie you prefer (chocolate chip, wafer cookies, mint cookies – use your imagination) Decorations for the outside (M &M’s, chocolate chips, sprinkles, nuts etc.) If you are whipping your own cream, add to bowl and whip, add the vanilla and powdered sugar to taste – whip until you have stiff peaks. Spread the whipped cream on one side of the cookie, then top with another cookie and spread more whipped cream on the topside of that cookie. Place on your plate or baking sheet and keep stacking cookies on top of one another until you can comfortably turn the stack on its side, like a log. Build the cake as long as you want or place two side by side to make a loaf shape. Spread the remaining whipped cream all over the outside of the cake and put into the refrigerator and chill at least 1-½ hours. The longer it chills, the softer the consistency of the cookies will be. I can’t decide which cookies to use to make my first Ice cream cake, might have to make a different one every week. Decorate as desired just before serving and cut a bit on the diagonal so you can see the individual layers.
Yummy!
I NEVER KNEW SURPRIZE CUPCAKES WERE SO EASY RECIPE O.K. it does not get any easier than this... Seriously! Buy one box of cake mix – your choice, depending on the kind of cupcakes you desire. Buy mini chocolate bars – your favourite or buy one of those mixed packages. Freeze the chocolate bars. Mix the cake mix as directed, grab your cup cake tin and use those little paper cupcake holders. Pour your mix in, put one frozen chocolate bar in the middle and bake as directed. Just like magic you have made Surprise Cupcakes. See? Going back to school can be fun for everyone! Enjoy this fun stuff all year long and I wish you all a great and rewarding school year.

BODY PARTS – YOUR THYROID
The thyroid is located at the back of the neck below the Adam’s apple, it consist of two lobes that wrap around the windpipe. It produces hormones that control your metabolism and influence every organ, tissue and cell in your body. It is one of the endocrine glands of which there are many throughout the body. I found pages of information on the thyroid when doing my research and found it very surprising how this small gland virtually controls our bodies. It regulates the rate at which the body utilizes oxygen and controls at which rate various organs function and the speed with which the body utilizes food. They call the thyroid the body’s thermostat, secreting two hormones that regulate body temperature, energy usage, and calorie burning. It affects overall body metabolism. Thyroid function influences and is influenced by the pituitary, adrenals, parathyroid, and sex glands, all of which work together. Thyroid hormone is essential for normal nervous system functioning and reaction time. Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid produces too little hormone and can contribute to heart disease because one of the side effects is an increased amount of LDL (bad) cholesterol circulating in the blood. Hypothyroidism may produce slow reactions and mental sluggishness. Hyperthyroidism is a different condition which the thyroid produces too much hormone and increases all the reactions that occur in the body. Some of the symptoms of this are nervousness, decreased menstrual flow, weight loss, fatigue, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, excessive sweating, and irregular heartbeat and chest pain. The thyroid gland is a factory and to produce its secretions it must have raw material of which iodine is the most important. Iodine can be found in iodized salt and also seaweed. If you eat sushi you are receiving your iodine from the seaweed wrapper used to make the sushi. Japan of course has the highest daily intake of iodine and the lowest rates of cancer in the world. The thyroid is such an interesting organ in your special body and I could write pages about it but for now this is all the information I can give you. Just an added note, you can buy seaweed in little packages just for snacking at just about any Chinese, Vietnamese or Japanese market. It is quite tasty – try it sometime. There comes a point in your life when you realize: Who matters, who never did, who won’t anymore and who always will. So, don’t worry about people from your past, there’s a reason why they didn’t make it to your future.
One of the biggest questions to answer yourself is, “What will I be using the system for?” For example, will you be using it to play online at all? If so, what systems do your friends use to play online? If your friends use an XBOX 360, and you have a Playstation 3, you will not be able to connect to them online. Will you be using your system for any other purpose than playing video games (watching movies, listening to music, etc…)? Wii: This system is great for a family environment. Many of the games developed for it are geared towards younger children and a family atmosphere. They have many “party” games out that can be a lot of fun with multiple players. While this system is the least expensive, the accessories and add-ons can increase the cost in a real hurry. Games are typically $10-20 cheaper than the others but many of the big release games are not developed for the Wii. However, they do have many exclusive games such as the Super Mario Bros. XBOX 360: This is the most popular of the systems currently being sold. If you are looking to play online against friends, odds are this is the machine for you. The new slim XBOX recently released comes with a 250 gig hard drive and wireless internet built in. This machine will play games, CD’s, and DVD’s. It can be linked to your home PC to stream movies or music that is stored on your computer. Cost of this machine is $300. PS3: This system is designed for the Hardcore Gamer. The base system comes with either a 120 or a 250 gig hard drive. Wifi internet is built in. The system is VERY reliable and is probably the most diverse of the three systems. It is capable of playing games, DVD’s, BlueRay’s, and CD’s. You can store movies and music on the hard drive as well. The graphics capability is better than anything else. The base systems costs between $300 - $350. There are many different factors to think of when purchasing a new machine. The last thing you want is to invest a few hundred dollars and then feel like you bought the wrong machine for your house. Come in to our store and speak to any of our knowledgeable sales staff and we can assist you in making the right decision for your household. Brad Duggan ~ Play N Trade (SEE AD ON PAGE 51)

If you live on acreage and are looking for a large beautiful dog, you may want to have a look at these Belgium Long haired Sheppard’s. I was out to B.C. recently to visit my sister who breeds these exceptionally beautiful dogs. They are very kind, well tempered and sweet. I wish I lived in a place to own one – they need room to roam – you could not keep one in your back yard, they like to run and are perfect for a farm. Look at the pictures below and if you are taking a trip out to the Okanogan this summer and looking for a large dog, you will not be disappointed in these beautiful Sheppard’s – she has lots of puppies to choose from and they are all so pretty you will not be able to choose, you will want them all. LOST PETS
Recently we found a cat, which we thought was lost. A beautiful grey long haired tabby ran into our house when the front door was open and we assumed the poor animal was lost. We took it in and started looking for lost cat posters in the neighborhood. After speaking to a poor lost cat owner, she told us about the Pet lynx program through the Calgary Humane Society. We went on-line and registered the cat – it must have a tattoo in the ear to do this. I was astounded at the number of animals registered. I thought with a tattoo as soon as the number was registered the owner would phone and claim their lost best friend. But nothing happened – I phoned the Calgary Humane Society, gave them the tattoo number and they put me through to the owner – turns out the cat was not lost and lived just down the street from us. This is a great program to help pet owners find their cats and dogs. There are so many lost animals, and I know so many caring people who will go out of their way to help them. If you have a computer check out this site, if you have a lost animal or have found one, it may help bring your best friend home. The site is www. petlynx.net - hopefully this will help you find your lost pet. By: Kathryn Hartwell

THE DANGER OF MOTH BALLS With summer, comes the influx of animals, both wanted and unwanted into unfenced lawn areas. Unfortunately, some people around Strathmore have been using an old “remedy” to combat this; mothballs along the perimeter of the fence line. I am a conscientious dog owner. I pick up poop religiously, keep my pet out of flower beds and away from children and other pedestrians. However, my small and friendly dog could have died tonight, because quick as a flash during our walk, she scooped up a mothball along the sidewalk line of a neighbor’s yard. Luckily for me, she is well-trained and dropped it on command. Had I been unlucky and had not noticed, or had she swallowed it before I saw what happened, she could have been subject to ear, nose and throat irritation, respiratory problems, vertigo, confusion, nausea and vomiting, followed by convulsions, liver and kidney failure, and finally death. The same would be true of a small child who was curious and picked up one of the small white balls. With this particular insecticide, ingestion isn’t necessary for toxicity; simply carrying it around in one little hand could cause a child to absorb enough poison to harm them through skin contact and inhaling the vapours. Death can occur from the ingestion of even just one moth ball, and while symptoms of poisoning may take two hours to occur, the only remedy is gastric lavage with a charcoal solution, which must be administered within 30 - 60 minutes of ingestion. Victims of poisoning may also need IV fluids and oxygen to combat other symptoms. Please remember that no amount of lawn care is worth killing your neighbour’s children or pets. Nor is it worth going to jail; using pesticides and insecticides in a manner counter to their label directions is illegal. It is important to remember that you could also harm or kill your own family this way; while over time, soil absorbs and breaks down the poisons in mothballs, it can also leach into your garden soil and into any fruit or vegetable plants you may be growing, causing kidney failure among other complications. If you suspect your animal or child has fallen victim to mothball toxicity, please call your doctor or veterinarian immediately. Do not induce vomiting as this can worsen the problem. - K. O’Connor www.thenewsyneighbor.com

I Am A Bell Pepper
My name is Pablo Pepper; I originated in South America and was born in 5000 B.C. The Spanish and Portuguese explorers discovered us and took us to China, Turkey, Spain, Romania, Nigeria, North America and Mexico. Since we are very adaptable plants and we grow in tropical and temperate climates we live everywhere throughout the world. Did you know that paprika and Pimento’s are made from bell peppers? We are also known as sweet peppers and are called the Christmas ornaments of the vegetable world because we are so pretty and glossy; we come in all sorts of different colors like green, red, yellow, orange, purple, brown and even black. Even though we come in all these colors we are still the same plant. We come from the same family as the potato, tomato and eggplant. We are an excellent source of Vitamin C and Vitamin A, two very powerful antioxidants that neutralize free radicals, which travel through your body causing huge damage to cells. We also contain lycopene, Vitamin B6 and folic acid, which are really good for you; it helps your body to stop prostate, cervical cancer, diabetic heart disease, heart attack and stroke. We are high in fiber, which can help lower high cholesterol levels. If you smoke you are putting benzopyrene into your body and causing a Vitamin A deficiency and the Vitamin A inside a bell pepper can counter this effect. You should really make us a daily part of your diet. I have been shown in a study to give you protection against rheumatoid arthritis because of all the vitamin C I have. I could go on and on about how good I am for you. I am very special; soooo, you should try to eat me each and every day! I have found some very yummy recipes for you to make so you can really enjoy my wonderful flavour. Have the most wonderful summer and stay healthy! By Kathryn Hartwell
Green, sweet bell pepper have 2 times as much vitamin C as oranges; red and yellow bell peppers have 4 times as much. Bell Peppers have three to four lobes, the color depends on the variety and the stage of ripeness. Most are sold in the mature green stage--fully developed, but not ripe. As they ripen on the vine, most bell peppers turn red and become sweeter. Bell peppers have no "bite" at all, since they contain a recessive gene that eliminates capsaicin. Instead, they have a mild tang and a crunchy texture that makes them suitable for eating raw; their size, shape, and firmness allow them to be stuffed whole. www.thenewsyneighbor.com The Newsy Neighbor

This is a favorite in our home and the kids even ask me to make these on a regular basis.
STUFFED PEPPERS 1 pound ground beef ½ cup uncooked long grain rice 1 cup water 6 peppers – any color 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce 1 TBSP. Worcestershire sauce ¼ Tsp. Garlic powder ¼ Tsp. Onion powder Salt and pepper to taste 1 Tsp. Italian seasoning Cook the rice as directed. Brown the beef until browned. Prepare the peppers by removing the tops, seeds and membranes. Place the peppers in a baking dish. Mix the ground beef; rice and 1 can tomato sauce, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Spoon into the hollowed peppers. Mix the remaining tomato sauce and Italian seasoning and pour over the stuffed peppers. Bake 1 hour in a preheated 350-degree oven, basting with sauce every 15 minutes. Healthy and easy. Enjoy
How to Select Choose peppers that have deep vivid colors, taut skin, and that are free of soft spots, blemishes and darkened areas. Avoid those that have signs of decay including injuries to the skin or water-soaked areas. Storage Unwashed sweet peppers stored in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator will keep for up to one week. Sweet peppers can be frozen without first being blanched. It is better to freeze them whole since there will be less exposure to air which can degrade both their nutrient content and flavor. By: Kathryn Hartwell

Question for August: Q. “Will hearing aids help me? A long time ago the doctor told me that I have “nerve deafness” and there is nothing that can be done” A. The most frequently seen type of hearing loss seen is called Sensorineural hearing loss. The nerves that transmit sound from the ear to the brain are affected. Hearing aids won’t cure this, but they will usually assist you in hearing better. For more info call Tannis or e-mail tannis47@telus.net

NEW ~ Monthly Book Review Column Hello Newsy Neighbor faithful! My name is Derek Donais and I am pleased to announce that I’ll be contributing a regular book review column to the magazine. I live in Strathmore with my wife Connie and my two children, Kieran and Maia-Lynn. I’ve been a teacher in Alberta for nearly a decade. I like to spend the long summer days outside and the cold winter evenings curled up by the fireplace with a good book. I have a list of favourite authors, including J.R.R. Tolkien, Terry Brooks, Robert Jordan, C.S. Lewis, Cormack McCarthy and Malcolm Gladwell, and I am always on the lookout for books by other great writers. If you share the same passion for reading, then I hope to provide you with some insight into a few great reads. It is my intention to include a balance of fiction and non-fiction works, as well as incorporate some local authors into the mix. As I mentioned, I love to read. It was my love of books that inspired me to begin writing myself. My first fiction novel, MetalMagic: Talisman, will be published this summer. I welcome you to check it out on my website, www.derekdonais.com, and you can even follow it—as well as progress on the sequel—on Facebook. I am looking forward to the next issue and writing my inaugural review. If there’s a book you’ve read recently that you think would make a good addition to the column, please let me know. Is it possible to change your life and better your health in just one glass a day? For many Canadians, although we always intend to live healthier, we often find it frustrating and difficult to manage our supplement intake. Quite often it is not as convenient as we would like due to our busy lifestyles, and we forget or give up altogether. An innovative, quick, and economical solution, suitable for all ages from children to the most mature adults, easily prepared in under a minute, for less than a cup of coffee a day…is…a protein smoothy! Of course the first ingredient of course would be protein- Whey or Hemp are 2 of the most complete sources. Protein will help to maintain, build, and repair tissue throughout the body. For the second ingredient, add a complete liquid multi-vitamin and mineral. This will ensure your body has the key components to maintain your overall basic health each day. Thirdly, a good source of fiber like Chia or Flax is crucial to help maintain the health of the digestive system, absorb toxins, reduce acidity, and ensure they are expelled through our stool. Lastly, add a liquid form of the “healthy fats”- the Omega 3-6-9 group. They can be found in both fish, or in vegetarian sources like Borage or Chia. EFA’s, (the healthy fats from the Omega family) have been benefit countless systems in the body like cardiovascular, brain, and immune. Other great additions to your smoothy are a liquid forms of Calcium/ Magnesium, liquid Vitamin D, and powdered pro-biotics, and if you choose…your favorite frozen fruit if a blender is available! But, with even just water, many quality proteins taste great using natural flavors, while still keeping the sugar content remarkably low!

Clear your mind and start a new life
Before you can build a brand new exciting life, you must make room for the new you. You must clear your mind of the wreckage of your past which will open it to valuable new insights. Think of it as buying a new wardrobe and then trying to fit all your new clothes in a closet which is already jammed with your old clothes. The mind is the same as your closet; If you have a head full of old negative, guilty, blaming others stuff; you can’t fill your mind with new ideas. You need to take a personal inventory and rid yourself of all the junk you’ve been carrying around. “Once we rid ourselves of traditional thinking we can get on with creating the future.”~ James Bertrand This is so important. Alcoholics Anonymous believes that unless a recovering addict takes this step, it is unlikely they will stay sober. So get started. Step 10 from the big book of AA goes on to suggest that we continue to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admit it. Notice that the Tenth Step says that when we were wrong we promptly admit it. It doesn’t say that when we were wrong we promptly justify it.
Three Mind Clearing Steps
Step One: Make a list of everyone you’ve harmed, offended or blamed for your life. Write down their name. This must be done with a pencil and paper, not with your computer. There is power in the written word. Writing connects your pad and pencil to your subconscious mind in a way that the keyboard simply can’t. Make your list, then write beside each name how you may have offended or blamed that person. Be sure to include everyone, even those who are deceased. You cannot progress in a new life without this clearing. So be detailed. Step Two: Make an amends to each and everyone on the list. If they are living and reside near by, you should arrange to meet them face to face and make your amends. Tell them you are building a new life and you need to clear the junk of your past before you can move on. It is not necessary that they accept your amends or that they forgive you. What is necessary is for you to make the effort. Then it is gone from you and you have room for new and wonderful ideas and actions. If it’s not possible to arrange to meet face to face, then call. Don’t leave a message. Talk to them. If you can’t call, then write an old-fashioned letter. Absolutely no email amends. Sit down and write a real letter, again there is power in the act of writing. Lastly, if the other party is deceased, write them a real letter. Post it in a real mail box. It will go to a dead letter office. You have relieved yourself of some heavy baggage. One very important detail. You do not make an amends to someone if your amend would hurt them. Example: You’ve had an affair. You cannot go to the unsuspecting spouse and make an amends. Treat this amends as if the offended party was deceased. Write them a letter and let it go to the dead letter office. Step Three: Now you come to the fun parts. Once your mental closet is cleaned out, you get to go on a shopping spree. You get to start a brand-new life. Here’s how you do it. With your mind clear of guilt, fear, dread and blame you have a vacuum to fill. You can fill your mind with goals and dreams and a plan for a your new life. “The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: decide what you want.” ~ Ben Stein Make a want list. Write ten things you want, career, house, a car, relationship whatever, ten things that you think would make you happy. Look hard

at the list and pick three of your most profound wants. Select the ones that stir your emotions, these will be your true desires. Then make a list of the things you would have to do to have it? Would you need to go to school, move, what would you have to do? Then make a plan. Start the footwork that will take you to your new exiting life. Pick the first thing you need to do and commit to taking the first step toward accomplishing it today. Then take the necessary action. Summary: By doing this mind clearing personal inventory, you have made room for new ideas. You’ll need to continue this process on a regular basis. When issues come up, clear the junk and add your new ideas. When you are wrong, admit it. You can have anything in life you want! Making resolutions is a cleansing ritual of self-assessment and repentance that demands personal honesty and, ultimately, reinforces humility. Breaking old habits is part of the cycle. Since the number of people that are diagnosed with the gallbladder disease is alarmingly increasing, and gallbladder surgery is one of the most performed surgeries in the United States, it is important that you understand this illness and its symptoms so that you can discover it as soon as possible and avoid surgery if you can. The gallbladder is a small organ that can be found between the liver and the duodenum, that is connected to the liver in its upper part and to the stomach in its lower part. The liver produces the bile, a substance needed whenever you eat fat foods, because fat can’t be digested through the normal procedure because it does not dissolve in water. Therefore, the liver makes the bile and then it stores it in the gallbladder for whenever it’s needed. When you eat fat food the gallbladder starts pouring the bile needed for the food’s digestion. Due to the ingredients of the bile, sometimes small stones can form in it and these stones can cause problems that can only be fixed through surgery in some cases, or they may cause gallbladder attacks in more extreme situations. If you learn the symptoms of the gallbladder disease well, and those of a gallbladder attack too, you will be able to detect both of them early and call for a doctor. If you discover the illness as early as possible the treatment will be easier and perhaps you will be able to avoid surgery. You may be experiencing gallbladder symptoms for years and you don’t realize it until its too late. The first sign that it shows is constipation. But the first symptoms that appear don’t necessarily indicate that you have the gallbladder disease. These symptoms are very common in many problems, so the best thing to do is visit a doctor and listen to his advice. After the constipation, the gallbladder starts to hurt, making you feel pain in the liver area. Then as the disease advances you may experience dizziness, indigestions after consistent meals, gas, and dark-colored stools. If you eat too much fat and the ill gallbladder can’t provide enough bile to digest it all than you will have diarrhea. Also, if a gallstone is obstructing the bile duct you will have yellow-ish eyes. If the gallstones leave the bile and start to obstruct the duct or reach the duodenum, then a gallbladder attack will occur. Gallbladder attacks need to be immediately treated by a doctor. These are the most common symptoms of gallbladder attacks: vomiting, -pain in the right side, near the liver. This pain radiates in the whole body, especially to the right shoulder. A lot of gas, and severe pain occurs at night or after a very fatty meal These are the most encountered symptoms of the gallbladder disease or of gallbladder attacks. If you are experiencing any of them, do not hesitate to consult a doctor in short time. If not, try to remember them, because they may save you or a family member from a bad condition. www.thenewsyneighbor.com

Patience serves as a protection against wrongs as clothes do against cold. For if you put on more clothes as the cold increases, it will have no power to hurt you. So in like manner you must grow in patience when you meet with great wrongs, and they will be powerless to vex your mind. – Leonardo Da Vinci. Why use a realtor?
If you sell the home yourself, you will get limited exposure by putting up a sign, running some ads, and telling your friends. On the other hand, if you work with a REALTOR® you will get instant and mass exposure to a large number of prospective home buyers. A REALTOR® knows market values and can therefore help you set a competitive price for your home. A REALTOR ® can free you from the hassles associated with showing your home. A REALTOR® is objective when negotiating with buyers. Selling a home is not something that anyone can do in their off-hours. It’s a specialized service, best handled by a professional.

The housing market enjoyed a healthy boost in March as homebuyers anticipated an earlier than expected rise in interest rates, according to figures released by the Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB®).” “The improved economic conditions, better employment prospects, and an earlier than expected rise in mortgage rates are all contributing to this early boost in sales this year.” you kidding 6 Bedrooms and a den If250 you’re going toGreens be concerned about anyone’s approval – make sure the person Are in the mirrormeis–first in line. When we are threatened with suffering from three directions: from our own body, which is doomed to decay and dissolution and which cannot even do without pain and anxiety as warning signals; from the external world, which may rage against us with overwhelming and merciless forces of destruction; and finally from our relations to other men. The game warden asked the man, “Do you have a license to catch those fish?” Naw, my friend, I ain’t got no license. These here are my pet fish.” “Pet fish?” “Yep. Every night I take these fish down to the river and let ‘em swim ‘round for a while. Then I whistle and they jump right back into this ice chest and I take ‘em home.” “That’s a lie! Fish can’t do that!” The man looked at the game warden for a moment and then said, “It’s the truth. I’ll show you. It really works.” “Okay, I’ve GOT to see this!”
3/31/08
The man poured the fish into the river and stood and waited. After several minutes, the 4:08:26 PM game warden turned to him and said, “Well?” “Well, what?” said the man. “When are you going to call them back?” “Call who back?” “The FISH!” “What fish?” We here in Saskatchewan may not be as smart as some, but we ain’t as dumb as most.

A creepy long legged spider Came crawling up my leg, When I reached down to smack her, I heard a small voice beg. “Please don’t hit me, I’ve got so many places to be. I thought I’d take a short cut by climbing over your knee. Rushing here and rushing there, I’m always rushing everywhere. Up and down walls, across the floor, Over the rug and under the door. I build my house, then take it apart, You have no idea how this breaks my heart! People see me as ugly, A creature they must squish. That they could see my better side Is my fondest wish. When ladies and children see me They just scream and run, If they’d only remember Charlotte, We could have so much fun. As a spider my life is extremely busy, I guess that’s why I’m called a very Busy Lizzy. www.thenewsyneighbor.com

Imagine that you had won the following prize in a contest: Each morning your bank would deposit $86,400.00 in your private account for your use. However, this prize had rules, just as any game has certain rules. The first set of rules would be: Everything that you didn’t spend during each day would be taken away from you. You may not simply transfer money into some other account. You may only spend it. Each morning upon awakening, the bank opens your account with another $86,400.00 for that day. The second set of rules: The bank can end the game without warning; at any time it can say, It’s over, the game is over! It can close the account and you will not receive a new one. What would you personally do? You would buy anything and everything you wanted, right? Not only for yourself, but for all the people you love, right? Even for people you don’t know, because you couldn’t possibly spend it all on yourself, right? You would try to spend every cent, and use it all, right? ACTUALLY, this GAME is REALITY! Each of us is in possession of such a magical bank. We just can’t seem to see it. The MAGICAL BANK is TIME! Each morning we awaken to receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of life, and when we go to sleep at night, any remaining time is NOT credited to us. What we haven’t lived up that day is forever lost. Yesterday is forever gone. Each morning the account is refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account at any time.... WITHOUT WARNING. SO, what will YOU do with your 86,400 seconds? Aren’t they worth so much more than the same amount in dollars? Think about that, and always think of this: Enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much quicker than you think. So take care of yourself, and enjoy life! Here’s wishing you a wonderfully beautiful day!!! www.thenewsyneighbor.com
Todd & Aleesha Gosling ~ Married July 3, 2010 It was absolutely the most perfect day! The weather was beautiful, everything went as planned (besides some minor details and mistakes including Denise and I not getting even ONE picture together… UGH!), and the food was AMAZING – thank you Paul and everyone else who helped! I really don’t think the food could have been any better. Some of the decorations, including the arch we said our vows under and all the beautiful ceiling decorations were done by BALLOON BOUQUETS (see ad on page 34). Our delicious “Strawberry Short Cake” was done by ROCKY’S BAKERY (see ad on page 33). There wasn’t ANY cake leftovers – I think that’s a good indication everyone loved it! Our wedding pictures – I can’t even explain how IN LOVE I am with our pictures, there are SOOOO many and 99% of them are just gorgeous, amazing – perfect!! Our photographer was Joelene Mills (see her ad on this page). I would also like to give a big thank you to Arlis; she altered my wedding dress and all the bridesmaids dresses. She did an amazing job – if you need any alterations done, CALL HER!!! Arlis O’Neill - 403-934-1965. Bonnie from Doggie Duds surprised us with a little wedding dress and veil for our one dog and a little tux for the other dog. NO JOKE! Look at the picture on this page. She is extremely talented with this and can make anything you want for your pooch. Call her, Bonnie - 403-934-5970. Hidden Secrets (page 13), Studio 86 Tanning (page 36), Assist Business Centre (page 13), Perfect Taste (NOW – Grateful Grape, page 21), Audrey’s Consignment Boutique (page 29) and NV Hair and Body (page 39) all also had a hand in making our wedding day the best day of our lives. THANK YOU!! Our families were unbelievable. The wedding wouldn’t have even happened if everyone didn’t help as much as they did. I can’t thank our families, the wedding party and all our wonderful friends and supporters enough. www.thenewsyneighbor.com
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the best day of our lives. Aleesha & Todd Gosling
