A series of engaging talks and a walking tour will explore the complex story of New York’s long battle against infectious disease—a fight involving government, urban planners, medical professionals, businesses, and activists. These programs will reveal how our understanding of disease has changed us physically, socially, and culturally, and the surprising interplay between people and pathogens in an urban context.
The Forgotten History of Roosevelt Island: Walking Tour
Sponsorship is of the program component only. Please contact us for expanded exhibit-related opportunities.
One hundred years after the global influenza pandemic of 1918—the deadliest disease outbreak in human history—experts look back at the crisis and consider our present-day pandemic readiness.
Once a site of health care innovation, Roosevelt Island’s abandoned hospitals and laboratories have stories to tell about New York City’s historic approach to public health.
