On the passing of Bedford Zane (Dale) Aylward

On the morning of Thursday, August 25, 2022, he took his last breath and left us, heading out on a new journey, at the age of 92 Dadyears.was born July 23, 1930, in Five Islands, Nova Scotia. We all remember Dad as this tall, dark haired, handsome, wickedly funny, and vibrant man. He cast a long shadow for us to follow. Dad practiced medicine starting in 1960 in Dawson Creek and was still visiting patients when he retired at the age of 80. He was a compassionate, inquisitive man. He was always eager to learn more and engage in conversation. This, as well as his love of books, contributed to his wealth of knowledge. An avid sportsman, he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends (Red, Oscar, Uncle Earl, and Jim).He served on many boards including the Dawson Creek and District Hospital, the British Columbia and Canadian Angus Associations. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club of DC and served one term as an Alderman in Dawson Creek. We moved to the farm in 1969 and Dad’s life took a different turn. He became known as a cattleman who was dedicated to the promotion and development of the Black Angus Cattle Breed in British Columbia and Canada. He was proud of the growth of Gumbo Gulch Cattle Co. and enjoyed walking or riding his quad to check on his herd. Dad exemplified a life well lived. He will be missed by all and forgotten by none. That was the kind of person that Dad was. He leaves to mourn the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Bernice; children Brian (Sue), Steven (Chris), Darroch (Sindy), and Lisa (Richard); grandchildren Stephanie, Bryce, Victor, Nicole, Andrew, Jon, Breanne, Luc, Jenise, and Elyse; 7 great grandchildren, with one more on the way; sister June and many cousins, nieces, andFornephews.friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Bedford (Dale) to Rotary Manor, 1121-90 Avenue, Dawson Creek, BC, V1G 5A3, Dawson Creek and District Hospital, 11100-13 St, Dawson Creek, BC, V1G 3W8, or the charity of your choice. Swan Lake, Alberta was officially named in 1952. It was believed to have been named after the Swans that were present on this very small lake. What many people find surprising is that the Peace Country actually has two lakes by the same name. Swan Lake Pro vincial Park B.C. is located not far from the border on the way to Dawson Creek and the other is Swan Lake Recreation Area near Ridgevalley, Alberta. Swan Lake Provincial Park was built in 1918 and is the third oldest park in British Columbia. A fish ladder was constructed at the park to facilitate movement of fish between Tupper River and Swan Lake. A bridge crosses the fish ladder and gives access to a picnic area by the lake. The park is open year-round with the outdoor rink used for roller blading and skate boarding in the summer and skat ing and hockey in the winter. Family fun, adventure and relaxation is what this park is all about. Swan Lake Provincial Park comes to life throughout the summer months with a wide variety of water activities including swimming, waterskiing, wind surfing, sail boating and fishing. Swan Lake Provincial Park is locat ed near the Alberta/BC border, 35 km southeast of Dawson Creek on Highway 2 and is a somewhat shallow lake with a maximum depth of only three metres. Pull out your fishing rod and prepare for some great fishing action. This lake has excellent fishing for Northern Pike and Walleye.Staythe night at any of the 44 camp sites. There are no services but each has a firepit and firewood, water and a large playground are available. Many birds in the area can be spotted including the Common Loon, Mallard Duck, Wigeon, Canada Goose, Coot and Horned Grebe.

Swan Lake Recreation Area, AB

Get close to nature with a visit to Swan Lake Recreation Area located about 16 km southeast of the Hamlet of Ridgeval ley,ToAlberta.keepdown the noise and preserve the natural habitat of the lake area, no gas powered motors are allowed. Bring your camera as many birds can be spotted in the area including the Common Loon. Swan Lake is aerated each winter to ensure that anglers can enjoy good qual ity fishing year round. Rainbow trout is stocked annually. There are only nine unserviced camp sites and are available on a first come first serve basis. There are also only a handful of walk-in sites located next to the water. Each of these sites contain a firepit and picnic table and is well shel tered by trees for lots of privacy. Even though this area is relatively untouched, the park does provide a boat launch area and a fish cleaning stand and now has two fishing docks.
