Your

Amateur Gardener: What’s the worst that can happen?

Northern Horizon Team

I love to garden. I also have no idea what I’m doing. That shouldn’t stop you from doing something you like doing and want to get better at, and so I try my best anyway. Still, at some point, you want to see progress. You want to plant basil and actually see it thrive instead of needing to be assured by your best gardening friend, “basil is really finicky though,” over and over.

Dan PRZYBYLSKI • Sales Manager (AB Sales) (Office) 250-782-4888 ext 114 • (Cell) 250-784-4319 horizon@dcdn.ca

I’ll be writing a series of columns all summer on my gardening adventures and the progress I’m making. If you’re reading this, you may be an avid gardener, but please don’t expect to learn any great new tricks or lessons. Rather, I hope you take some comfort in knowing your garden could always be doing worse, but also joy, at knowing the gardening community in Fort St. John continues to grow.

THE NORTHERN HORIZON

I’m not a complete rookie when it comes to gardening. I tended to and helped out with my father’s garden growing up and into early adulthood. I planted my own garden for the first time last year, and it worked out surprisingly well, despite only having a small patch of dirt on either side of my apartment that didn’t get much sun.

This year, I got a couple beds at the FSJ Community Gardens and am ready to become a full fledged green thumb, no matter what it takes.

season is supposed to be a hopeful one, one of endless possibilities and the hope that trying different things than you did last year will yield abundant crops. I seem to have skipped that step. You see, I planted my garden last weekend, May 16. It’s not crazy early, though it does go against the general rule of green thumb in waiting until after the May long weekend. I know the rule, but I’m impatient. I also like the idea of just doing something anyway — in this case planting my garden earlier than I maybe should — with the thought of “what’s the worst that can happen?” An early-season casualty, the result of foregoing the rule of waiting until after the May long weekend. ... more on next page

Amateur Gardener:

the worst that can happen

I’m probably overreacting, I know that. Yes, there were a couple days this past week where it touched below freezing overnight, and the intense wind on the days I planted didn’t help. Still, the forecast for the coming week is promising, with beautiful weather on the way. I’ll make it through, and am excited about the possibilities, even if I’m not looking forward to potentially having to replant most of my garden after the long weekend. I’m a long ways away from being a green thumb. In fact, at this stage, I fear I’m a black thumb. Webster’s Dictionary defines black thumb as having “a notable inability to make plants grow.” It can only get better from here.

Peace River Regional District Notice of Alternative Approval Process Re: Gotta Go Roadside Facilities Service Establishment Bylaw No. 2440 This notice is to advise electors in a portion of the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) of the use of an alternate approval process to obtain participating area approval for “Gotta Go Roadside Facilities Service Establishment Bylaw No. 2440, 2021”. The purpose of the bylaw is to establish a new service that will enable the PRRD to receive funding in the form of taxation from the service area to construct, operate, and maintain roadside facilities in the PRRD, and to provide grant-in-aid to non-profits and government agencies to assist with capital costs, and operation and maintenance costs, of roadside facilities in the PRRD. The service area is all of Electoral Area B, Hudson’s Hope, Taylor, Chetwynd, and Tumbler Ridge. Deadline: The PRRD will proceed with this new service unless, by 4:30 pm on July 5, 2021, at least 10% of the eligible electors from the service area advise the PRRD that the service should not proceed unless it is approved through assent voting (referendum). An elector can advise the PRRD of their desire for a referendum to approve the service by submitting a copy of the approved Elector Response Form to the Corporate Officer on or before 4:30 pm on July 5, 2021. The number of elector responses required to prevent the PRRD from proceeding unless a vote is held is 796. Elector responses must be submitted to the PRRD using the approved Elector Response Form, which must be completed in full and signed by the elector. Response forms will be accepted by mail, email, or in person, as indicated on the form. Forms can be obtained from the PRRD website, during regular business hours from the PRRD offices in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, and from municipal offices in Hudson’s Hope, Taylor, Chetwynd, and Tumbler Ridge. A copy of Gotta Go Roadside Facilities Service Establishment Bylaw No. 2440, 2021, and additional information regarding the service, is available from May 20, 2021 – July 5, 2021, on the PRRD website, and at the PRRD offices in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (Fort. St. John office closed daily from 12 noon – 1 pm) excluding statutory holidays. Resident electors, and non-resident property electors of the service area (Hudson’s Hope, Taylor, Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, and Electoral Area B) are eligible to sign the elector response forms and only one form may be submitted by any elector. You are entitled to fill out the Elector Response Form if you are: • a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older, and • a resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately before signing the Elector Response Form, and • a resident of, or registered owner of real property (in your personal name) in Hudson’s Hope, Chetwynd, Taylor, Tumbler Ridge, or Electoral Area B, for at least 30 days immediately before the day you sign the Elector Response Form, and • not disqualified by law from voting. In the case of a non-resident property elector, if more than one person owns the relevant property, the majority of owners must grant permission for one person to be an elector with respect to the property. Non-resident property elector consent forms can be obtained at the PRRD Offices during regular working hours. Property owned in whole or in part by a corporation does not qualify under the nonresident property elector provisions. For further information, please contact the Corporate Officer at 250-784-3200 during regular office hours, or by email to tyra.henderson@prrd.bc.ca Tyra Henderson Corporate Officer

Retail and food service sales trends in 2020

‘COVID-19 public health measures and social distancing significantly affected food service sector sales in 2020,’ explains Jeewani Fernando, provincial consumer market analyst with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. Food and beverage stores, essential services that were allowed to remain open, reported a record level of sales during the first wave of COVID-19 due to panic buying, consumer stockpiling and many full service restaurants being closed for indoor dining. ‘Similar record level of sales

were reported in the fourth quarter of 2020 probably due to seasonal buying and uncertainties around the second wave of COVID-19 public health measures.’ Overall, retail food and beverage quarterly sales in Alberta showed an increase of 5% from the third to the fourth quarters of 2020. Despite the lower total sales value, specialty stores recorded a significant 23% increase while convenience stores recorded a 10% sales decrease in sales during the same period. The annual quarterly sales from the fourth quarter of 2019

to the fourth quarter of 2020 also recorded a noteworthy increase of 8%. ‘The situation was different in food service sales,’ Fernando points out. ‘Not surprisingly, public health measures and social distancing during the first and second waves of COVID-19 significantly affected food service sector sales.’ The easing of those measures after the first wave helped to improve sales of all sub-sectors in the third quarter of 2020. ‘However, with second wave public health measures, sales

from the third to fourth quarters of 2020 and annual fourth quarter sales in Alberta declined significantly by 13% and 27% respectively.’ In terms of total value, drinking places (alcoholic beverages), full service restaurants and limitedservice restaurants recorded significantly lower sales with 22%, 19% and 9% respectively. Beatton 4H Club Report Hi, it’s Harlan again with the May 7 Report for the Beatton Community 4-H Club. March was a good start to our horse projects. With a mixture of ground work, riding, and lots of knew knowledge of horse training, I have been able to teach my colt and my level four project Coke lots of things. We are riding at the Light Horse Arena. They let us use the arena and in trade we do some cleaning for them. Last time I was there we swept the tie-up area; it was very dusty in there after that. I found out the hard way that level four is pretty hard. Not only does the check list have hard questions, but the riding pattern is several pages long. I’ve got the pattern mostly memorized, but the things on the check list are harder for me. I have to memorize what different leg wraps do, and there are a lot of leg wrap uses. So, there is more 4-H project options than I thought. Next year I am doing a small engine project. And that same year I might also do llama 4-H! Yes, we got a llama, and his name is Patrick. He is very cute, but he doesn’t quite trust us yet. He looks hilarious when we come to him because he puts his four-foot-tall neck straight up and his ears go straight up too. No joke his ears are as long as a school bus. He is also VERY bug-eyed. I think spring is here to stay now. I was outside in my T-shirt all day on Wednesday, and I did an eight-kilometre round trip to Petro-Canada on my horse. I did not go alone though; I brought my sisters and my sister Alexa’s friend. We thought it would be a nice day to ride, but half way there the wind picked up and started to rain, and soon it started to pour on us as we sought shelter in the trees. On the way back to the house it stopped though.

Our 4-H riding instructor Julia Fellers is giving us lots of useful tips on riding and showman ship. She is also making sure all of us can do everything on our riding level check lists. On Friday’s I do riding lesson with her and she helps me with my riding pattern and she makes sure I understand and know all the answers on my riding level check list. I want to say thank you to her for all her hard making sure we have our best shot at getting past the levels we are all at. She is very kind and she likes teaching us about horses and how to ride better. Also, thanks to all the other 4-H leaders that help keep our club running smoothly. Without them our club wound not be the way it is now, and it would be harder to follow our club motto: “Learn to do by Doing.” — Harlan Giesbrecht, Beatton 4H Club Reporter

The Government of Canada is committed to reducing the amount of food wasted across Canada through a wide variety of initiatives and investments. “The Food Waste Reduction

Challenge is revealing the tremendous appetite and ingenuity across Canada to tackle the problem of food waste headon. We are calling innovators of all types and sizes to bring forward new and innovative technological solutions that will extend the life of food or transform food waste. Our Government is committed to empowering our innovators and creating a truly sustainable food system in Canada,” said Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. “The environmental, social and economic benefits of reducing food waste are huge. It means less greenhouse gas emissions while increasing food availability. It can save consumers and businesses money and create new business opportunities. Through the Food Waste Reduction Challenge, the Government of Canada wants to back innovators with novel technologies to fight food waste. I encourage all to apply and be part of the solution,” echoed Terry Beech, Member of Parliament for Burnaby North–Seymour. Minister Bibeau and MP Beech were joined by food waste experts Bruce Hardy, Founder of Myera Group; Tyler Hennick, Global Analytics Lead at McCain Foods; Dr. Jean-Charles Le Vallée, Canadian Country Representative to the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture in Costa Rica; and Dr. Tammara Soma, Assistant Professor at Simon Fraser University and Research Director of the Food Systems Lab.

Hiking and backpacking with your four legged friends by Dr. Carmen Schneider

With summer approaching fast, many of us are itching to get out hiking! Getting out with your dogs is a great way to get fresh air, exercise and strengthen your bond. I’m hoping to give you some tips and tricks to do it safely! When taking your dog hiking, ensure they are fit enough to make the hike you are planning, start small and work your way up to longer hikes. Do several day hikes before attempting a backpacking trip with them. Their paw pads need to strengthen up over time as well so take them out on some rough terrain. If planning on letting them carry their own backpack, this takes some practice as well. They can carry 10-30% of their own body weight in a pack. Start small and then work up to that weight. A pack needs to be well fitted and ensure it is evenly packed side to side. Again, test this

out ahead of time to ensure there are no rub spots and be prepared to carry it yourself if needed. Don’t put anything in their pack that can’t get wet as they like to cool off in the water when hiking. Ensure you always have a leash and collar (or harness) with you. Your pup may be used to being off leash but they have to be well behaved and have good recall. You may meet other hikers and even if your dog is friendly, other dogs may not be. If someone else has theirs on a leash always put yours on a leash as well just to be safe. If they have a tendency to chase wildlife, they should be kept on leash at all times for your safety, their safety, and the sake of the wildlife. Something like porcupine quills can cut a hike short very fast. Dogs can be helpful with warning of wildlife but they can also be a wildlife attractant (for example cougars with smaller dogs). More careful planning on hikes must be done when bringing your dog. Don’t expect them to be able to make it everywhere you can make it so try to find out details of hikes prior to going. If going with a group, make sure everyone is ready to turn around if the dogs can’t make it. Plan ahead to make sure dogs are allowed on trials. Many places, such as some trials in the national parks, don’t allow dogs to stay overnight and some require dogs to be on leash at all times. Also remember that it can get cold in higher elevations so pack something warm for your pup on overnight hikes. Most places have water sources available but always ensure you pack adequate water in in case there isn’t. Lack of water will contribute to heat stroke when the weather is hot. Only fresh water should be used for drinking water. If not available, it should be filtered for them. Keep your dog from peeing near water sources to avoid contamination. Feces should be carried out or buried adequately as well. One of the most important parts of including your dog in hikes is a good first aid kit. Benadryl (same as the human variety) is important to have on hand for

allergic reactions from bites, bee stings, etc. The dose is 2-4mg per kg. Calculate this ahead of time and write it down to be ready. Painkillers can come in handy as well. Human varieties are not safe so these need to be veterinary prescription drugs. An appointment can be made at the clinic and we can discuss options if you feel like you need some on hand for a big hike or hunt. Polysporin cream is also a must to apply to any minor scrapes. I also like to have bandaging material available – we are happy to sell you any material you may want to have on hand. Your first aid kit should also contain booties to help protect any paw injuries or if the trail is just very rocky. Cats are also able to go out and adventure with us. They need to be harness trained well at home as they can wiggle out of harnesses easily when scared. Keep initial outings short to ensure your particular cat is amenable to being an adventure cat (which not all are). Hope you get to enjoy lots of adventures with your pets this summer and let us know if you have any questions!

Dawson Creek Veterinary Clinic Beware of poisons in the pasture ...

Every year we treat horses for alsike clover poisoning, which, depending on the amount eaten, can lead to the death of a horse. Things to look for are weight loss, sunburn and/ or scabs. Tall Larkspur (looks like delphiniums) = neuro-muscular paralysis which leads to respiratory failure, bloat and death in cattle Western Water Hemlock = affects the central nervous system and causes seizures & death within 8 hrs. Sweet Clover (tall with yellow flowers) = blood does not clot properly & can lead to internal bleeding Please take some time and read the full article (Poisonous plants in the pasture), complete with identifying photos, in the Large Animal Resources section on our website!

Silver Willow 4-H Club report Hellow Humans! It’s been a while hasn’t it? We’ve gone through two weigh-ins since we didn’t have one in February. We are continuing our monthly weighins and getting ready for achievement. You get a certain time to come and weigh and then leave. We also had two Zoom meetings. We did have a club meeting and learned about judging. It was outdoors at a member’s farm, in small groups, following the Health Ministry recommendations. My steer is rapidly gaining weight, maybe a bit too rapidly and he’s bigger than ever! Everybody has just been busy taking care of their animals and getting ready to hopefully show them sometime in June at club level shows. This is a picture of my steer Ralph. He is a big sweet brute, I just brushed his hair to stand up! Due to the covid restrictions our 4-H sale will be held online, Monday July 12, at VJV in Dawson Creek. Signing out, Kamryn Mailman, Silver Willow 4-H club reporter

Clayhurst farm teams up for renewable natgas project Clayhurst farm has partnered with an Ontario-based energy company to develop renewable natural gas.

and Matter Global Solutions says it will be incorporating proven technology from Europe into the project. The companies said agricultural waste and dedicated crops will be utilized to maximize renewable resources, restore soil health, and showcase the benefits of organicbased soil amendments. It will also develop a strong carbon capture system while proving out a replicable and unique farming business model, the company said.

Horseshoe Valley Ranch and Matter Global Solutions Inc. say they are developing a large anaerobic digester project to convert agricultural feedstock into RNG. The companies say the project is already established with a supply contract for RNG from FortisBC, and has approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission.

Matter says it plans to create a high-growth expansion strategy based on its success at Clayhurst.

“The on-farm anaerobic digester will make organic crop production nutrients available to crops much more quickly than conventional composting,” Stacy Esau, President of Horseshoe Valley Ranch, said in a statement. “We anticipate much higher carbon carrying capacity and improved soil fertility, resulting in increased crop yields and reduced crop input costs.”

“This Project offers a gamechanging strategy that brings together regenerative farming, clean energy, and a great opportunity to partner with members of the Canadian agricultural community to deliver environmental and economic performance at a large scale,” said CEO Jay Zwierschke.

RNG’s chemical composition is no different from fossil-fuel natural gas. Both are methane, however, RNG is renewable since it is made from organic waste.

By 2030, FortisBC plans to trim its greenhouse gas profile by 30%, and has signed 13 offtake contracts with RNG projects across Canada.

Country singer Parton makes reading more than 9 to 5

Head Librarian Pamela Morris says the program breaks down barriers and promotes strong literacy skills, with books being sent out by mail each month. “It’s early literacy for the kids. Some parents aren’t big readers, some parents don’t have a ton of books in the house. This removes the barriers, it’s delivered every month to their house with their name on it,” said Morris, noting all parents need to do is sign their address up for the program. The imagination library was started a few years ago by the Sunrise Rotary Club, but has since been handed over to the Public Library. “So many parents come through here and tell us how much they love the program, It’s a

“It’s not just kids in city limits,” she added, noting a grant request has been sent to the Peace River Regional District. Administration costs for the program are handled by the Dolly Parton foundation, while local communities cover the costs of the books and shipping. It costs roughly $2,000 a month to run the program or just under $24,000 a year - with several companies stepping up to support the program. The donations will keep it funded until next March.

A bout of cold weather and snow today and Wednesday is expected to clear by Thursday, according to forecasts, when the weather returns to sunny skies and a high of 16 C. Environment Canada calls for a high of 13 C and a mix of sun and cloud for Saturday. Due to public health guidelines, space will be limited for both vendors and members of the public. Unruh said a COVID-19 safety plan is being finalized with the city this week. The market is a great place to support local during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Unruh said. “The vendors are really excited and so are the customers,” said Unruh. “I think we’re going to really, really busy.” — with files from Tom Summer, Matt Preprost. It is with great sadness that the family of

Arthur (Art) Edward Patterson of Dawson Creek, BC announces his passing on April 23rd, 2021 at the age of 81 years.

Art was born in Grande Prairie, AB, the fourth son to Miller and Olivia Patterson on May 2, 1939. He was raised in Hythe, AB and graduated from Hythe Senior High School in 1957. As a young boy, he travelled the country with his dad Miller, helping with the horses and chores on their farm and at “the Ranch” in the Goodfare area. Art was a gifted hockey player, joining the senior hockey team, Hythe Mustangs, at the age of 15 and continued on to Junior A with the Prince Albert Mintos, where he became the property of the NY Rangers. Art married Remona Heggelund in Valhalla Centre on September 21, 1957. They moved to Powell River, BC soon after so Art could play hockey with the Powell River Luckie’s. They returned to Hythe the following spring and Art went to work with his dad on the farm. In 1961, Art and his brother Leonard went to Reppert School of Auctioneering in Decatur, Indiana. This led to a long fulfilling career as an auctioneer and family-run business owner of Patterson’s Auction Mart in Dawson Creek, where he and Remona settled in 1979. Art was a long-standing member and President of the British Columbia Percheron Association and served as Director of the Canadian Percheron Association for BC. Raising and working with horses was his life-long dream. Art was a devoted family man, hockey fanatic, and horse enthusiast who will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Art is survived by his wife Remona; children Tami Patterson, Allayne (Brad) Litwin, Farrah Patterson (Chris Kochanuk); son-in-law Myles Weiss; grandchildren Lance Weiss, Tanner Litwin, Colten Litwin, Sydney Litwin, Ivy Kochanuk; great-granddaughter Loann MacAlister; sister Carol (Jerry) Rude; brothers Jack (Kathy) Patterson and Donald (Wendy) Patterson; sisters-in-law Caty Patterson and Connie Patterson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Miller and Olivia Patterson; children Laurie Patterson and Cindy Weiss; grandchildren Rikki MacAlister and Kole Weiss; siblings Harley, Jim (Agnes), Aubrey and Leonard Patterson. “If I don’t see you in the Future, I’ll see you in the Pasture”

310 contiguous acres being sold in 3 parcels just 3.5 miles east of the BC border and 13 miles east of Dawson Creek. Over 150 arable acres, a great shelterbelt, plenty of water, merchantable timber, and an idyllic setting for your dream home.

Coming Soon - Prospect at Roma Junction, July 28, 2021 - Peace River, AB ‘As both a seller and buyer of agricultural land, I have made use of various platforms over the years. Most platforms, including those of the large auction companies, are very busy, as they try and sell everything from used lawnmowers to irrigated quarters. Whether selling or buying land, I much prefer the CLHbid platform. The CLHbid.com website is easy to navigate and user friendly to bid on. At the end of the day, I am confident that by just focusing on farmland, CLHbid.com brings a much higher value to sellers. I have used CLHbid.com to sell land in the past and would for sure use them again.’ Gina Hommy, Investor-Farmland - Grande Prairie, AB

‘Year-to-date, the estimated live Alberta market lamb price, based off the rail, is averaging $283 per head ($2.36 per lb), up 11% from a year ago and 24% higher than the 5-year average,’ says Jason Wood, provincial livestock market analyst with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. ‘Lower lamb and mutton imports, reduced slaughter volume, and increased demand are supportive factors in the current lamb market.’ Lamb and mutton imports for January to April 2021 are 7,411 tonnes, down 11.7% from 2020 and 1% below the 5-year average. In 2021, fresh/chilled lamb imports are 2,365 tonnes, an increase of 14.9% from 2020, while frozen imported lamb has declined 11.4% to 4,244 tonnes. Mutton imports are down 57.9% in 2021 at 933 tonnes. Imports of frozen lamb and mutton have declined significantly from Australia and New Zealand, due in part to expansion efforts. In the first few months of 2021, Canadian federal and provincially inspected slaughter is down 3.5% year-over-year. In the west, slaughter is down 0.6% compared to year-over-year declines of 3.1% in Ontario and 6.8% in the Quebec/ Atlantic region. ‘Demand for lamb products has experienced a shift over the last year. The loss of foodservice has been offset with increased consumer retail purchases, led in part by a willingness among home chefs and younger shoppers to spend more time cooking nontraditional proteins,’ says Wood.

Demand is also being driven by first-generation Canadians, who traditionally consume lamb as a staple protein. The combination of these factors has led to record prices for lamb, with wholesale lamb prices reported to be up more than 50% in some cases. ‘Alberta light and heavy auction lambs continue to move at prices will above average. Year-to-date, light and heavy auction lambs are trading 30% to 45% above 2020 and over 40% higher than the 3-year average.’ Seasonally, prices tend to peak in June then trend lower in the second half of the year. Last year, prices did not follow the historical seasonal pattern and were stable through most of the summer and fall followed by strong gains into yearend. Global demand for lamb remains strong and consumption is forecasted to increase an average of 1.7% to 1.9% per year over the next decade. ‘As we transition through the global economic recovery, strong demand mixed with tighter supplies of lamb and mutton is expected to be price supportive. Consumer preference for lamb has grown, but uncertainty remains around the future structure of demand and how the return of foodservice will affect current retail sales,’ says Wood. Currently, Canada produces about 40% of annual lamb consumption, with the remainder being imported.

The Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced an investment of over $244,000 to support the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity’s (CCFI) work to build public trust in Canada’s food system. The announcement followed Minister Bibeau’s meeting with several members of the organization.

Delivered through the AgriCompetitiveness Program, this investment will help CCFI develop tools to share information with Canadian consumers about food production and enable food producers to share their stories. The investment will support activities like creating new content for CCFI’s It’s Good Canada website, which profiles real farm families and others working in the agricultural supply chain. By sharing accurate, transparent information about Canadian food production, CCFI will increase trust in the Canadian food system and in those who produce the food that Canadians eat and enjoy.

food producers, so they can better understand the origin of the food they eat and how it is produced. Our Government will continue to support initiatives that advance public trust in Canada’s food system,” said Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. “We are very excited to receive this funding from the Government of Canada for It’s Good, Canada. Building public trust in Canadian food is an important component of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership and this support complements the work we’ve been doing since 2016, when CCFI was formed to help earn public trust in Canada’s food system. This contribution will be used to highlight the outstanding work of farm families and others who continue to deliver safe, nutritious food to Canadians and people around the globe,” added John Jamieson, President and CEO, Canadian Centre for Food Integrity.

Canadians are more interested than ever in understanding how their food is grown and the system that brings it from the farm to their tables. Helping consumers better understand this process and agricultural practices more broadly builds trust, which is essential for the sector’s continued growth and long-term prosperity.

Quick facts The Canadian Centre for Food Integrity (CCFI) was established in 2016 as a national non-profit charity with a mandate to build public trust in the food system. CCFI is a membership-based organization with members from agri-food corporations, commodity groups, and academia and amplifier organizations. CCFI works to earn Canadians’ trust in the food they consume and in the processes and practices that the agri-food industry employs to produce it.

“COVID-19 has meant many Canadians are more interested in where their food comes from. Through this initiative the CCFI will help connect Canadians with

The CCFI recently assumed leadership of Agriculture More Than Ever, a social media channel dedicated to public trust in Canadian agriculture.
