W H AT I S A FUEL CELL VEHICLE? A fuel cell vehicle is powered by electricity generated by hydrogen and oxygen. Unlike gasoline, hydrogen is an environmentally friendly substance. It can also be easily produced from a variety of sources.
H ISTORY OF FUEL CELL V EHICLES In 2002, Toyota introduced a limited-edition fuel cell vehicle, the Toyota FCHV, in Japan and America. In 2008, the Toyota FCHV-adv further refined the idea. This was another limited run, available only to select buyers. In 2013, the Toyota FCV Concept debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show. This car featured an enhancement of the hydrogen tank design.
E C O - F R I E N D LY D ESIGN Toyota's fuel cell sedan includes a number of environmentally friendly features. For one thing, it doesn't emit CO2—at all. As previously noted, its hydrogen supply can be derived from a large number of sources. There’s no danger of a hydrogen shortage!
HIGH-PERFORMANCE C A PA B I L I T Y Toyota’s new fuel cell vehicle has a travel range of around 700km. The vehicle boasts excellent acceleration. It drives smoothly and silently—much more so than a traditional gasolinebased automobile. The engine can be started up in temperatures as low as -30 °C.
