There are so many things to celebrate this year The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics and with the news that Jersey is the most popular beach destination to Britons taking a domestic holiday this summer there is absolutely no excuse not to crack out the Pimms and cucumber sandwiches and not put them away until September! Being British it is our right to whine about the weather and we should make no apology for it. Even thought it may rain every second day of the season the best thing about the great British mentality is that we will dress as if we are hanging out in Ibiza – on go the mini / maxi dresses and strappy sandals, perhaps if we are feeling particularly pessimistic a little jumper or jacket to stop us from freezing. It just shows our British stiff upper lip as if it isn’t happening to us.

We will remember the long, hot summer days of our youths and dress just in case it comes upon us quickly! Well let’s be honest, what else are we to do?

You don’t want to be caught out under dressed… to the tower it will be for you if you are! So deck out the garden in bunting, don your party hat and polish up the Barbie – Summer is here and it is all about being British!! Richard Clews Managing Director / The Collections Group Ltd

The Denim shirt is back and we love it! We have all got one somewhere in our wardrobe - even if it is so far in the back it is almost lost to Narnia - that we can give ourselves a pat on the back and congratulate ourselves for being on message. Having spotted this rare phenomenon on a few ultra trendy celebs we feel that we are now allowed to go out in one ourselves! See them mixed with leather trousers or layered with an oversized denim jacket and rolled up jeans – the denim shirt is your spring essential.
Here are a few suggestions on how to wear your much loved denim shirt: Denim on denim (also called double denim) wear it with jeans and jean jackets – a little bold, a little 80’s but bang on trend. Wear with brightly coloured trousers Tucking it into a pair of black skinny jeans or trousers for the effortlessly sexy look. With a blazer – a quick way to dress up your look… With crisp white trousers. Belt it up and wear with flares… grrr!
Now, were you paying attention? In the last issue of Collect we talked about G-Star's fantastic introduction of 3D Denim to the market place. Each season they have introduced a new development to this number one selling fit and we find each one just as fascinating as the last. This season’s innovative new style takes inspiration from the 1920’s and 30’s motorcycle riders: whose clothes were cut to provide maximum flexibility and comfort whilst cruising. G-Star’s new 5620˚ Dimension pants provide the same combination but the clever little workers in G-Star HQ have also added their advanced moulding technology resulting in a futuristic, tailored silhouette, which follows the shape of the body in five directions.
We can’t wait to see what the boys in denim will have for us by Christmas! Just the Product Page 05

Deck Your Feet With Fabulous Colours This years Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race got us all talking! What with oars being broken, bowmen collapsing and protesting swimmers almost being decapitated, it was one of the bigger news stories over Easter. While we all loved the drama and discussions that transpired,we were also particularly distracted by the fabulous array of spectacular Deck Shoes that adorned the banks of the River Thames. Not only were there the traditional navy and cream ones but also multicoloured and block neon’s – we were fascinated! Deck shoes have been a summer staple for men for decades. They come around each year, just as summer does, and are always best without socks. The 2012 block colours have made us fall in love with them all over again. Being water repellent, slip and stain resistant and extremely comfortable on the feet they were originally worn by sailors. Now, however, the hip crowd has taken on the trend by mixing up the traditional with the colourful 2012 mantra.
They have always been a hit with the Euro’s and the Hamptons lurvvies but walk through any city this summer and see them on anyone whose anyone’s feet!

Hello Sailor The nautical look transcends between the male and female this summer. We are not suggesting that you chaps start sporting the white pleated skirt but we do believe there is no better way to look ship-shape than taking on the nautical staples. You may not have a luxurious yacht to hop aboard at the drop of a hat and the most sea legs you have ever had are getting on Condor to St Malo but this trend is a big must to get through the summer. Again, like the girls, this is a trend that comes back every few years but never goes away completely. The trick is to look like you are off down to the The Royal Yacht rather than the Yacht Club. Moderation is key and, for men, less is more - covering yourselves in stripes and rope anchors is not advisable. Think more along the line of jackets with rope draw strings and big cork toggles, casual blazers with the obligatory chinos and cream and navy jumpers. The secret to making this work is in both subtlety and colour combinations – obviously cream and navy but also beige and red, dark navy and almost red. Think the Royal Navy out of uniform and relax it a notch!

Well this is one trend that we never envisaged coming back but now that it is here we LOVE it! Men make sure you get to the gym and get those legs in perfect shape as the 1970’s short shorts are back on the streets and they look great. Now we understand that the first outing in your thigh skimming shorts may be uncomfortable - not on the skin but on your psyche - there will be a lot of double takes and lingering stares. Just know that these are coming your way as everyone is jealous of the look, kicking themselves at their lack of confidence and in awe of your sense of humour and hint (literally) of mystery. It helps if you think less cargo and more minimalistic. It is easy to think of those white polyester shorts from the 1970’s but the 2012’s ones are much more refined and sexy. Not all of them are even as short as you think - above the knee is shorter than any trend we have had in a while and any hint of knee means that you are on the right track. They are also a little tighter than what we have seen in the past decade. When you are choosing your shorts, make sure you don’t go for ones better suited to the running track. It’s all about the structure and tailoring. Ensure they fit properly as there is nothing, and we mean nothing, worse than a man’s camel toe. It is all about the knees and that pert bottom – we don’t want to see anything else!
Axle Man are upping their game and flinging their doors open to welcome smart and sexy brands Paul Smith Jeans and Armani Jeans to the family. Complementing the Axle Man existing brands, Paul Smith and Armani show a smooth and ripened cut to mirror the trend of their customers. This is nothing to do with the fact that gorgeous Rihanna is the new face of Armani Jeans (in the campaigns video Rihanna charges the atmosphere with striking sexual energy) it is all about the clothes and the changing needs of St Helier’s trend setting men. Armani Jeans is canvassing all the main fashion trends in 2012. Iconic Paul Smith Jeans is drawing inspiration from the work of two key cultural figures in France this Spring/ Summer – the late artist Louis Bourgeois and his tapestries and the director Jean Luc Goddard. Soft colours are mixing with strong primaries and acid tones, channeling the Paul Smith ethos for the summer of 2012.
A top American fashion editor has commented that ‘most men don’t realise that their legs are a top resource, women are drawn to the superior shape.’ So now is the time to show off your wares and get the kind of attention that seems to be demanding at the moment. Page 09

Going nautical is one of those trends that come back into fashion every few years and we at The Collections Group don’t understand why it ever goes away! The stripes are flattering and it is an effortless way to look classic and elegant. It is authoritarian yet highly feminine, sexy and appealing look that every modern woman can wear with her head held high. Add some nautical niceness to your wardrobe and we can guarantee that it will work hard year after year. Wide legged trousers, stripy tops - nautical fashion never really leaves the high street. Take inspiration from glamorous movie legends Rita Hayworth and Katherine Hepburn and Jackie O – oozing elegance in crisp white linens and bold navy and white stripes. Take it up a notch and add rope detailing in big bows and anchor emblems in flashes of gold and bronze. Tie your hair in a high ponytail and pop on a pair of designer shades, pout your lips and act with as much nautical nonchalance as you can muster.
Page 11
Be brave and veer away from red and navy, out there is a rainbow of stripy possibilities! Pink stripes, orange stripes, green stripes and even multicoloured stripes - wow your friends and show them how daring you can be. Just remember that you don’t have to jaunt off to the South of France to rock the nautical look – it works well in the urban jungle as well and just like the smell of suntan lotion, it is timeless and will only remind you of sunnier times.
Clash of the Patterns
Unless you have been locked in an underground bunker for the last year you would know that big, bright and bold prints are very much in! This summer they have got much hotter and mixing and matching is the way forward. This is not a look just for the brave as it is all about letting your imagination run wild – take your pink leopard print skirt and pair it with a pair of green pants with birds flying all over it! Mix aztec with animal prints, tribal with stripes and spots and graphic with everything. The more floral the better – florals are no longer reserved for your Gran and think how pleased she will be when you start asking her to knit those zig zag jumpers you previously used as the dog blanket. This is the first time since Kate Middleton hit our peripheral vision that we have been encouraged to break the rules. Forget everything you learnt at school and make a statement that noone will ever forget! We are not saying that this trend doesn’t need a very bold approach but when you make it work, you will be the edgiest, coolest person in St Helier. There are varying degrees of risk here. You can maintain an air of elegance that can take you through work to The Royal Yacht, just make sure your patterns have the same coloured undertones. Black and white is an obvious example and paisley and zebra work well here. If you are feeling more adventurous go the whole hog and watch as people’s eyes pop out with jealousy at the obvious confidence you are exuding.

Spring/ summer 2012 is all about taking the best of existing trends and genetically morphing them into something new, sexier and (dare we say in the case of the marriage between neon’s and nudes) more wearable. Neon’s make us constantly dread looking like a human cartoon character so we at The Collections Group are delighted that the ever so pretty and eye catching bright pinks, yellows, limes, blues and purples have been toned down with a neutral pallet allowing us to show off both sides of our personality in one sexy outfit! Lets face it – we are all a bit bored with the dark grays, browns and ever ending black of winter and we are excited that summer means we are allowed to wear bright colours again! Both neon and nude are perfect with the golden Jersey tan. Wearable in the boardroom and on the dance floor, this look translates to any time of day and any situation you may find yourself in. Just make sure that you only rock one neon colour per outfit. We haven’t regressed into the 80’s (it’s not about leg warmers and sweatbands) and because of this it is imperative that you have the confidence of a modern girl to be taken seriously!
Mantra of the day –“we are not garish, we are stylish, we are not garish, we are stylish…” Neon’s scare a lot of people and are definitely not colours to wear if you want to blend into the crowd but lets be honest, who wants to be part of a crowd? The Collections Group would rather be fun and lively, so watch out for us wearing neon pink and lime with our basics on a daily basis. Page 13
Each year the Pantone Colour Institute forecasts THE colour of the year and, much to our panting excitement, 2012 is the year of Tangerine Tango. Described by the Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute, Tangerine Tango is:
“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, it is an orange with a lot of depth to it…” Reminiscent of the radiant shadings if a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high- visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.” Well who wouldn’t want to be wearing that! The best thing about this zesty shade is that it gives its wearer a youthful flair. Suited to any skin tone, especially with a tan (as long as it is not a WAG orange one!) it means that absolutely anyone can wear it and look fabulous! This colour is truly versatile but magnetic enough to be attention grabbing and vivacious –
put it on now! Pantone 17-1463 TCX / Tangerine Tango

Chinocentric Up until recently there were those that wore Chino’s and then those that wore jeans… are you one of the guilty ones to only ever wear jeans? If so, then this has to change. It is all about Chino’s this summer and as with everything else the brighter the better! Though jeans most certainly do have a place in every man’s collection, including a pair of chinos can be a great way to upgrade your wardrobe and give you that preppy style whilst also being much easier to wear in warmer weather.
The best way to wear chinos is with confidence. Choose red or navy blue, or even my favourite the Hilfiger baby pink! Pair them with a white linen or polo shirt and add loafers or deck shoes for the full and desired effect. If you want to veer away from the preppy look for the more urban edge then make them slim fit, darker and pair it with a similar hue of jumper.
Coloured chinos are simply more fun and after last year we think that you all deserve it! If you’re still a bit wary about wearing bold-coloured chinos, consider starting with something ‘safer’ such as khaki, navy or black – after getting used to the idea I am sure you will be wearing your red chinos in no time!

M/ { e \\ e The days are getting hotter and all you want to do is wear shorts and a polo shirt and lounge around. Unfortunately, life sometimes gets in the way and dressing a little smarter is the general form! In this case this seasons must have is a lifesaver: the deconstructed, unlined blazer. Unlined blazers are to be worn at all occasions - perfect for the office or to a smart party, or even to accessorise a casual weekend outfit.
Wear it to work: Make sure you choose a slightly darker shade - brown is a popular choice for 2012. Rumple up your button down shirt and lightweight trousers and throw on your blazer with ease and style. Just make sure you don’t wear your unlined jacket as you would your tailored one as this is social suicide.

LINEN LOVERS Hackett, home of the Essential British Kit, with a worldwide reputation for quality, luxury, designer clothing for men is coming to De Gruchy and has made a new home in the Pierretoni menswear section.
A Hackett navy blue blazer in wool, cashmere, cotton or linen is one of the most useful garments in any man’s wardrobe; it can be dressed up or down. It is the men’s equivalent to the little black dress.
Hackett is the up-market British gentleman’s clothing brand of choice translating well from formal wear to a classic downtime uniform. The classic British man must dress in authentic British style, there is no room for football hooligans here but cricket and polo fans may apply to wear this stylish selection of ready to wear.
Spot the bright blues and pinks on this season’s hottest men and bow down and respect the true British-ness about them.
Hackett incorporates everything from casual polo shirts to a full blown three piece, which you can find on the high street. Hackett is about being dressed but not overdressed. It is about knowing what suits you and not being a slave to the latest fashion trends.
Page 17
How we love Linen! I imagined that the linen shirt would have been conceived in a little bar on the Amalfi Coast with all those gorgeous Italians, drinking limoncello and discussing the terrible constraints of the traditional cotton shirt. After a bit of research, however, I discovered that it goes back much further than that, even being mentioned in the Bible… but a girl can dream! Linen shirts for men have redefined the way men are able to dress, as it is a truly multi-occasion look. Once known as the rich mans fabric because of its high cost, it is now widely available for everyone and anyone. It differs from ordinary shirts in that each shirt looks unique to the individual wearing them. If you were just to get one piece of linen, we would suggest that the classic white linen shirt is one of the most versatile garments you will ever own.
You can dress it up with a classic v- neck jumper (preferably cashmere). We love the look with a bright pink or red! More conservative types may feel that the bright coloured cashmeres are a bit risky but they provides a classy look that only someone born with style can possess. If you want to impress the ladies then wear it with a plain navy blazer and either a pair of well cut chinos or dark jeans and strut like Simon Cowell for full effect. Personally I am a big fan of the pastel linen shirts: pinks, blues, purples… the slightly translucent look to them against white chinos or shorts and on a tanned body will get any girl going! If all of this doesn’t persuade you, just think about the softness, the comfort, the fact that it has an uncanny knack to absorb water (sweat) fast and most importantly is moth resistant so you won’t be finding any friendly nibbles in it when you pull it out of the wardrobe.

Horse & Mallet For the modern man, the classic polo shirt is an icon, a fail-safe that it is very hard to look wrong in and there is literally no easier way to get that injection of colour into your wardrobe. For the past 85 years the polo shirt has crept off the pitch and into the wardrobes of the cast of ‘Made In Chelsea’. Like most men, you have probably been wearing polo shirts since you could dress yourself, especially as it’s smarter than a t-shirt and more comfortable than a work shirt. We find it rather odd to meet a chap that doesn’t have at least three in his wardrobe!
The polo was originally born as a tennis shirt but thanks to the founding of the now enormous Polo Ralph Lauren brand in 1967, complete with their polo playing logo, the equestrian association has stuck. Now the staples come from Tommy Hilfiger, Gant, Hackett as well as Ralph Lauren and are the uniform of he smart/ casual set. The polo shirt provides you with the best of both worlds - the collar, buttons and tennis-tail make it that bit smarter than a t-shirt but the cut and fabric make it more comfortable than a shirt. This spring/ summer is a veritable sweetie shop of polo’s and the most important thing is the colour. It is important to go bright and bold, to bring this pensioner of the summer staple right into the year 2012.

The Masters this Easter set off the golf frenzy for 2012 with a great big whack to rival Elin Wood’s on the side of Tiger’s Escalade! Bubba Watson is the man on everyone’s lips this year – although secretly they all think Martin Kaymer will take the 2012 golfing crown and what they are all wearing is almost as important as who got to wear the green jacket at the end. Over the years golf has become more and more popular with a wide international appeal and worldwide media coverage. With that comes a sharper, smarter image, bringing with it a strong link with the fashion industry. Even if you don’t think too much about your ‘look’ on the Green you can’t just wear anything, as the rules are quite stringent. The main regulation that doesn’t seem to change from club to club is that there should be a collar on the shirt of all golfers. Because of this, serious fashion brands have eagerly used this freedom to create their image and have come up with some creative outfits! The Hugo Boss Green line, as worn on tour by the likes of chiselled superstar Martin Kaymer, and US Ryder Cup man Nick Watney, is back with a bang for 2012 with its trademark combination of cutting edge performance fabrics and cool, sophisticated style that you can come to expect of one of the world’s premium fashion brands. New for 2012 is a defining Royal Ascot theme to the golf range with a mix of stripes and checks in bright, energised colour combinations, inspired by the traditional class of Britain’s foremost racing meet.

The Guide to Avoiding Social Embarrassment Debretts, the ‘go to’ guide for proper social etiquette, is very strict on its advice on what to wear for certain social engagements such as weddings and Royal Ascot. If you are not too well versed in their preaching’s, or think you are to wear pyjamas if you see the words ‘Morning Dress’ on a wedding invitation, then the friendly helpers in the formal wear tailoring/ or hiring at Men’s Club will give you all the advice you would possibly need. Royal Ascot for example is a hard one. At the beginning of this year Ascot spokesman Nick Smith admitted that in recent years dress codes had been ‘relaxed’ in an effort to attract more people to the 300 year old event. He also voiced that having given people ‘an inch’ some had taken ‘a mile’ so steps had to be taken to ensure the prestige of the event and so the dress code was again tightened. Ascot chief executive, Charles Barnett, comments: “It isn’t a question of elitism and not being modern in a world… We want to see modern and stylish dress at Royal Ascot, just within the parameters of formal wear, and the feedback we have received from our customers overwhelmingly supports that.”
Waistcoat: grey is the traditional colour; other plain colours or lightly patterned soft tones are also popular. Waistcoats should be made of linen, silk or brocade. They may be double-breasted or single-breasted; the bottom button of a single-breasted waistcoat should always be left undone. Backless waistcoats should be avoided as it restricts the wearer from removing their coat. Ties: originally black to show formality; a silvery speckled tone later became the norm. Today there is no rule, but softer tones look best. Cravats may be worn instead, with a pin. Shirt: a plain, pale colour such as white, cream, blue or pink, ideally with double cuffs and be worn with cuff links. Traditionally shirts were always white with a stiff, turned down detachable collar, but this is quite formal by today’s standards. Shoes: black lace-ups with minimal decoration should be worn. Loafers can appear too informal. Socks should be black or grey. Braces: if worn, they should be made of felt and fitted with buttons. Gloves: always grey but tend not to be worn nowadays.
Please see below the guide to what constitutes proper formal Morning Dress. Morning Dress: - a morning coat, striped trousers, shirt, tie and waistcoat - is the traditional dress for weddings and formal Royal events. The slightly odd name derives from a time when weddings took place in the morning and gentlemen naturally wore their morning attire. Traditional Morning Dress: The Morning Coat (jacket): single-breasted with one button, usually has peaked lapels. Grey is the traditional colour, but black is also very popular.
Formal Wear Hugo Boss as an entry level – Top Level Ermenegildo Zegna – made to measure Coats and Tails
Trousers: striped trousers come in a variety of styles; explore the options to find the most flattering stripe. An alternative to stripes is dogtooth check (also known as ‘spongebag’). Flat fronted trousers give a slimmer look; a pleat down the front works better for thinner builds.

THE
Garden of Eden No longer limited to those of the fairer sex, lightweight and floral patterns have been hitting the catwalk and the high streets and are set to turn Jersey into a veritable Garden of Eden. It has come to the point where men too are looking for fashion pieces - which are breezy enough for summer and highlight the fact that blokes can also be pretty! The rule is that if you have previously been scared of patterns and prints then don’t be - the more floral and paisley the better which is shown in the fact that they have bombarded the runway this season. Ted Baker have some, literally beautiful, all over paisley shirts with fun colours and buttoned detail that make people believe you have spent a lot more than you actually have! Hugo Boss have also really thrown themselves into the flower garden trend and are impeccable shirt designers, producing quality garments. Personally we think this look only works on those with oodles of confidence, those who exude sexuality and the manlier the better, (more chest hair poking out of the top works best!) As with all strong looks just don’t go over the top with it – a pair of plain bottoms (khaki chino’s or jeans) are the only things you should be mixing these shirts with. You want to look refined and clean. While pattern clashing is in at the moment we think that a man can only do so much…

SURFBOARD PARADISE

WET WILD With the summer coming round to a slow start the best way to unlock your surfing potential and to get you in gear is to make sure you have the best, coolest and most functional rubber wear in town! Even though we are deep in a double dip of the financial kind, surfing tends to be the best value for money. Once you have all the kit it is free and if you get the right stuff it will last you a lifetime. The amount of research, testing and manufacturing that goes into a wetsuit or a rash vest is often incomprehensible and with this in mind the fact that you can get some of the best wetsuits for under ÂŁ80 is amazing. Most people keep their wetsuits for a couple of years which means each use is only about 50p.
Surfers can make the sport of surfing look effortless and easy. Jumping out of your VW van, into your wetsuit, grabbing your surfboard and then ride the waves. You could almost be made to believe that they are using any bit of driftwood that they come across to make those moves but this is definitely not the case. For those that have ever tried and failed at surfing or remember those first few days where you spent more time in the water than on it you will know that surfing is anything but easy. Done properly surfing can be the best type of exercise and is great for mental wellbeing but you need to put the time and effort in to learn the basics and a lot of stamina (you need a lot more energy than you think!) While driftwood would never have done the job properly the first type of surfboards were not far off - heavy, wooden and about 15 feet long! The modern surfboards come in a variety of sizes and ranges: You can get beginners, intermediate and advanced and there seem to be a zillion different shapes, sizes and colours! Freedom stock surfboards by:
giving a wide range for any grade of surfer and any particular style just pop along and the friendly in house experts will make sure you get what you need!

Four Key things to check when thinking about your wetsuit are:
01 02
Seams: make sure that your seams are made in such a way as to block that icy cold water coming in. There are many technologies out there that work but avoid flatlock stitching on the cold days.
03 04
Fit: Make sure it fits well. This is not just for comforts sake but also to make sure the suit is properly insulating the water.
Materials: Neoprene is best – the idea behind a wetsuit is to permit a small amount of water to seep into the suit initially, which once heated by your body forms an insulating layer of warmth. Neoprene treated with water repellant chemicals, prevents the cold ocean water from continuing to wash in and disturb the temperature in the suit.
Entry: Ensure it is easy enough for you to get in and out of without help while still retaining its insulating properties.

Quiksilver
WELCOME TO QUIKSILVER JERSEY The Quiksilver brand has always been popular in Jersey, especially with all you surfer and skater types. So popular in fact that they have decided to open a Channel Islands flagship store in Queen Street St. Helier to show off as much of their wares as possible and for you to revel in the high standards of fashion and function that only those who live and breath active sports can provide.

SWIMSPERATION I don’t own many swimsuits, in fact until recently I hadn’t brought a new one in years – afraid of what I would find in the stores, remembering the Brazilian trend that was around last time which not only looked terrible but also painful… Having had a more recent look I am not sure what I was so scared of as swimsuit shopping is actually pretty fun – all the different styles, prints and colours there is most certainly something for everyone. Personally I am stocking up on all the Aztec prints in case they ever go out of fashion and the ‘dental floss’ comes back in… well worse has happened!
For those of you who have been living in the dark ages Quiksilver is an institution for surfers, snowboarders and skaters alike. The Quiksilver logo alone shows this – a cresting wave and a snow capped mountain obviously representing the extremes of active sports that they cover. The brand started off 20 years ago and found its feet with beach sports before extending out to include other lifestyles. The commitment to performance, style and endurance has taken the message around the world. Their goal is to provide the market with purity of concept and provide their customers product that they can wear with pride because it represents quality, value and the ethos of living your life on the edge. A celebrated name among surfers across the globe Quiksilver designs and distributes casual sportswear, beachwear and snowboard wear marketing its apparel under the Quiksilver and Roxy. Quiksilver designs, produces and distributes clothing, accessories and related products for young-minded people and develops brands that represent a casual lifestyle driven from a board riding heritage. Quiksilver’s authenticity is evident in its innovative products, events and retail environments across the globe. Quiksilver’s products are available now on Queen Street, St. Helier so get down there and stock up!

TARP SURFING THE MOVIE
Vans are the atypical example of skater cool. Their style is so popular that they have been copied all over the world but you can certainly spot the fakes as nothing compares to the original and authentic Van. One of the world’s most sought after skate brands, Vans bring more than just style and comfort to your toes! Vans were introduced to the world from the Van Doren Rubber Company in 1966, the brainchild of Paul van Doren and became popular among skate borders all over the world thanks to their trademarked rubber sole that meant that you wouldn’t come off your skateboard until you crashed! They really took off in the 70’s when skateboarding went crazy in Southern California and Vans were on every street corner. In the mid seventies skateboarding legends Tony Avla and Stacy Peralta were invited to design a pair of Vans trainers that later became known as the iconic Vans Era shoe. With a cushioned padded collar, the famous non-slip sole and the bright, funky patterns these are now the most recognisable of all the brands. Each season the Van designs are given a shake up and like a breath of fresh air their vibrant colours and out their prints give a lease of life to the best of feet! As one of the most desired items on the high street, you are definitely not worthy of a skateboard unless you own at least one pair.

In fact the clever people at Axle have thought of everything and have now given us wide aisles and baby changing facilities. On top of that now that it is at De Gruchy’s we can put any purchases on our De Gruchy’s account card without hubby getting too cross!

English Country Baby Burberry is Quintessentially English and one of the most recognisable brands in the market today so who wouldn’t want to dress their little tots in their gorgeous clothes? We at Collect couldn’t help but applaud the creative genius of Burberry this year for infusing their Spring/Summer collection with their traditional Fall/Winter palette giving us something a little different to play with. The rest of the miniature fashion world have been celebrating summer with block bright colours, soft pastels and different shades of sorbet but Burberry did their own thing again and have taken an earthy approach and have done in it a very smart way indeed! Mustards, teals and purples dominate the colour palate and have been mixed with geometric patterns and knitted accents to give this new collection an African feel. There is not one, even overly fussy child that would not want to be dressed in this! Burberry is a brand that everyone has loved for years. Things that we picked up years ago are still very relevant and stylish today and this still holds true with many of the items in the 2012 collection. Burberry embodies traditional, timeless fashion that can be worn for years – that is of course until your child has a growth spurt and then you have to set them aside for your next one!!!
Why would we need to go anywhere else? Page 37

Sail Away Sail Away The brand Petit Bateau was created in 1920 for les petit people of France. Quickly gaining iconic status because of its durability, comfort and quality its embodies a style and grace that was lacking in children’s clothes and that was very much needed by the smart French mama’s of the time! Generations have been inspired by its ever cool signature stripes, which are bang on trend right now, and we have never been able to get enough of its timeless wardrobe staples which come in an astonishing array of 500 colours! For the smartest little babies everywhere Petit Bateau is the go to brand of choice for timeless classics – as Carly Simon sung: ‘no body does it better…”

Chloe Darling! Chloe children is some of the most fabulous children’s wear out this season. There is a completely different tone to the original adults Chloe line with the cuts being more relaxed and breezy. Cotton is the material of choice and is embodied in pretty much every piece perhaps blended with linen or silk depending on how dressy the outfit is. The have kept away from the print trend as everything is kept quite soft and comfortable. With Chloe you can turn the little girl obsessed by the famous five by day into a ballerina at night.
