Former OSU golfer Viktor Hovland tied for second heading into final round of PGA Championship

even-par (70 strokes) in the third round of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill in Rochester, New York.

The round puts Hovland at 5-under par for the tournament, tied for second heading into the final round which will be played on Sunday.

It’s been 37 years since a former OSU golfer has won a major tournament, and for how many professionals OSU has produced, that is the only major to show for.

In 1986, Bob Tway won the PGA Championship by two strokes over Greg Norman at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Viktor Hovland has an opportunity to accomplish something all but one former OSU golfer failed to do.

The leader, Brooks Koepka at 6-under par, competed in last week’s LIV Tulsa event. Hovland and Koepka are paired up and will be the last to tee off on Sunday, starting at 1:30 p.m. CT. sports.ed@ocolly.com

The final round will be streamed on CBS. Hovland, a 25-year-old from Norway, played at OSU from 2016-19 and collected national awards such as the U.S. Low Amateur and the Ben Hogan Award.

Hovland tied for seventh in this year’s Masters and tied for fourth at last year’s Open Championship. Hovland has seven wins as a professional, with three on the PGA Tour.
