Cowboys plaster Red Raiders, claim spot in Big 12 title game Abby Cage
Dean Ruhl Sports Editor LUBBOCK, Texas – Linebacker Devin Harper came back for this reason. Tyler Lacy ran stadiums in the offseason for the same purpose. On Saturday, nestled in northwest Texas, Oklahoma State achieved its seasonlong goal. The Cowboys clinched a spot in the Big 12 Championship game for the first time in school history. OSU soundly shut out Texas Tech 23-0 at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas, and with the help of rival Oklahoma defeating Iowa State earlier Saturday, the Cowboys were able to claim a spot in the title game on Dec. 4. “Every day, all the early workouts, the late workouts, they always preached it,” Harper said. “Now it is happening. We’ve got to follow through.”
The game itself was what fans had come to expect from OSU (101, 7-1 Big 12) in recent weeks. The defense remained in the limelight and put up its most impermeable game to date. The unit tallied 12 tackles for loss and allowed just 108 total yards of offense, its lowest amount this season. The most resounding stat, a zero in the TTU (6-5, 3-5) points column, is the first time since 1995 the Cowboys have shutout a conference opponent, and Saturday was the first time Tech had been held scoreless since 1987. “I’ve been telling them all year ‘Don’t play small, play big’,” defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said. “They believe right now.” The offense carried over its efficacious football from the past several weeks, despite several injuries. Center Joe Michalski remained on the starting line after Danny Godlevske was unable to return and left guard Tyrese Williams started in place of Josh Sills. Williams himself sustained an undisclosed injury, ushering Sills into the game.

Cowboys... Continued from 1 Wide receiver Brennan Presley was relegated solely punt returns, elevating freshman John Paul Richardson into his starting Y-spot. Richardson, who has steadily gained playing time this season, caught six passes for 41 yards and a touchdown in Presley’s absence. Sanders had another clean game, throwing no interceptions. He completed a touchdown pass, as well as ran another one into the end zone, accounting for both OSU touchdowns. The Cowboys’ performance sent fans toward the exits before the fourth quarter had even started. “Life is good for that group that

sports had a bunch of new faces out there,” offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn said. The journey to Arlington, Texas, for the Big 12 Championship is guaranteed, but everything else isn’t. The Cowboys will be the first to say so. “For these guys to be able to find a way to get in that game is a big accomplishment,” coach Mike Gundy said. “They did it. This is their team, not the coaches’ team. We had several players come back for the super senior season, and this is why they came back.” OSU made it clear after the game that near-perfect football will be needed to continue ascending. The next obstacle arrives in seven days. OU, an aide to the Cowboys’ mission this week, will look to be the downfall of said mission next weekend. Despite being marred with inconsistent play, the Sooners remain in the hunt for the second spot, needing a win to

confirm it. Barring a loss to Texas Tech, Baylor would take the second spot in the title game if the Cowboys defeat the Sooners. OSU beat Baylor 24-14 earlier this season, and a second win against the Bears would hand the Cowboys a Big 12 title, 12-1 record and a commanding resume for the College Football Playoff. OSU, picked fourth in the Big 12 preseason poll, has already propelled itself the conversation of CFP contender. Steadily gaining national praise, coach Mike Gundy said he expects the team, currently slotted into the No. 9 rank, to rise to No. 7 with Michigan State and Oregon losing. Two crucial games await OSU in the coming weeks. As imminent as they are, Saturday wasn’t about worrying or planning. Saturday was about celebrating. The planning can wait a night.
Come Sunday, when coaches arrive at their offices and players to practice, then it will commence. Until then, the Cowboys won’t let the significance of the title game berth be understated. Saturday is a day to celebrate. Celebrate Harper’s decision to return. Celebrate Lacy’s stadium steps he ran in the summer. Saturday was a season-long philosophy come to fruition. “That means everything,” Knowles said. “It is a culmination of a lot of hard work. All we know is the next game in front of us, so we will worry about that when we get there, but I’m really happy for the players and the program.”

Josh Sills wasn’t supposed to play Saturday, but after Tyrese Williams was hurt in the first half, Hunter Anthony played one snap and then Sills took over from there. Despite the injuries and soreness in the Cowboy locker room, offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn said these injury issues aren’t nearly as bad as earlier in the year. “(Saturday) was nothing to that, September was miserable,” Dunn said. Cowboys pass rush irritates Texas Tech’s young quarterbacks

They recorded four sacks, were
credited with only four quarterback pressures but piled up 12 tackles for loss, which ties for the most in a single game this season. “When we blitz somebody has to get home, it’s one-on-one,” linebacker Devin Harper said. “We’ve got a lot of good blitzers and a lot of good defensive lineman who can pass rush and (the pass rush) has been a big benefit for us.” The constant pressure and having to roll out of the pocket just to have to throw it away kept breaking down Smith, the Cowboys could feel it and fans could see it. Throws from Smith were landing way off target sometimes 20 yards over a receivers head. The Red Raiders tried to make a switch at quarterback to true freshman Behren Morton, who, much like Smith, found little hope against the OSU defense. Combined the two Red Raider passers were 10-of-31 for 83 yards.
Smith tapped out with a quarterback rating of 57 and Morton recorded a measly 33.3. “Everytime you see a young quarterback or a new guy come in, you have to put pressure on him and make them feel uncomfortable,” Lacy said. “That’s what we did on the field today.” The Cowboys defense has been the power source of the team’s success and with Bedlam and a Big 12 Championship on the horizon they are still fending off a letdown game. The team chemistry is the driving force. “We have a motivated defense,” Harper said. “Everybody’s out there ready to grind. We just practice our butts off and you can see it displayed on the field.”

SGA Senate changing its constitution
Teyte Holcomb Staff Reporter On Wednesday, Oklahoma State’s Student Government Association (SGA) met for the final time this semester to discuss several bills that were introduced. Though the meeting covered many bills and amendments to the SGA Constitution, a heavily debated topic among senators was bill F21Bl007. This bill would “amend the structure of the communications department,” which would in turn consolidate the communication process in regard to elections and everyday business. After discussion, the bill was proposed with added amendments. The final vote was 17-3, with the majority voting to pass the bill.
Anna Pope
Though the bill was passed, some students said they don’t think there will be much of a difference. Claire Stolfa said she feels like this added bill was unnecessary. “From what I know about the bill, it kinda doesn’t seem like it will overhaul much,” Stolfa said. “I’m definitely curious to see how this will hopefully improve the communications department within SGA and maybe other parts of the university.” Although this bill stirred conversation among SGA senate members, many of the bills introduced were widely adopted among individuals. Senate bill F21Bl001 aims at “amending motions in Title I” of the SGA constitution. One of the things this bill does is prohibit any senate member from directly voting on a bill that would
“financially” affect them personally. The bill passed unanimously among senate members. Some students at OSU said they hope this bill makes a difference. Chase Parker, a junior at Oklahoma State, said he wants to see these issues changed in SGA. “I think it’s really cool to see SGA trying to do things to be as fair as possible,” Parker said. “This bill passing shows that OSU’s SGA is taking their role seriously within the student community. The night continued with the introduction of bill after bill; many of which were passed without much hesitation. While some bills were lighter in material, others aimed to change parts of the SGA constitution. One main discussion throughout the night was the revision of Title X
in the SGA constitution. This revision would change elections, as well as shorten campaigns. The main purpose of these revisions is to make sure there are “no loopholes” while running for office. After debate and discussion among senate members, the bill passed with 22 votes. As the fall semester is beginning to wrap up, SGA senate members proposed and discussed bills that could potentially affect the spring semester. Though the meeting covered many technical bills and amendments altering how things were done in Oklahoma State’s SGA, some proposed ideas to help improve the quality of life for OSU students in the coming semester. news.ed@ocolly.com

THE GIFT OF GOD!
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Ro.6:23 NIV) “...all have sinned...” (Ro.3:23) Everyone has sinned and the payoff is death; eternal separation from God; a lake of fire. No matter how you paint it, it is a terrible, eternal state of being. The Bible talks of those who “because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath.” (Ro.2:5 NIV) Those who, with a hard heart, resist and reject God’s help; only store up their terrible wages for the judgment day to come. It is so important to consider and act on God’s love gift. The gift of God is eternal life. At the age of 12 years, my wife heard about God’s free gift of eternal life. In fact, the person sharing with a group of young people had a picture of a gift box with a big, colorful bow on top. God was offering her, that day, this gift, and she stepped out and received it. You see it is a gift. You can’t do enough to earn it, but you must receive it.
This gift is found in one place (person); in Jesus Christ. It is found nowhere else. You only access God through Christ. (Jn.14:6) You need to trust God’s word and turn to Christ, ask and receive his free gift of eternal life. What is included in this eternal gift? You receive the forgiveness of all your sins; they are never to be remembered by God. (Col.1:14, Heb.8:12) You also receive a new life; you are born of God. (Jn.1:12) As you continue to trust in Christ, he will work in and through you his very life given freely to you. When you leave this life in physical death, you will go into his presence forever. (2 Co.5:8)
