Cowboys remain undefeated halfway through the season, a historic defense. In the 17 years of Mike Gundy’s tenure as head coach of OSU, the 2021 defense has allowed less yards per game than any other year. This season, the Cowboys are allowing an average of 19.5 points per game, also the lowest in 17 years. On third down this year, OSU only allows a conversion 29.5% of the time, the second lowest in the Gundy era. Gundy had a simple answer as to why the defense has been successful this far. “They’re just playing good,” Gundy said. “Their culture is good, they like each other and they are mature. There are a lot of years and games of experience on that field. It doesn’t faze them. They just go out and play.” Half of the remaining games will

be on the road, nevertheless Gundy is not worried after a win in Austin with 100-thousand Texas fans. Gundy prepared his 82 players, and allowed themselves to prepare for competing in a hostile environment. Of the next six games on the schedule, the only ranked team is Oklahoma. The two teams are currently both undefeated and are ranked in the top 10 of the latest AP Poll. The yearly Bedlam matchup in the last week of the season will be in front of 60-thousand fans at Boone Pickens Stadium. If OSU wishes to pull off an upset, it will have to create more history by becoming the first Cowboy team to be undefeated throughout a 12-game regular season. sports.ed@ocolly.com

Colvin Center opens new Mac Gym Jaden Besteda Staff Reporter

Students looking for anything extra to do inside of the Colvin Recreation Center can now find it in the center. The Center has recently opened a new room for anyone to use called the Mac Gym. The Mac Gym is a room that can be used for lifting weights and playing soccer or football. When walking into the space, the first half will be dedicated to the weights. The setup is eight racks set up horizontally that have everything from 5- 45 pound weights. Right beside every machine there are also medicine balls to accompany the weights. The other side of the gym is a full soccer field which has two nets set up on both sides of it. “Basically we have the soccer field on one side and we have the weights on the other side,” Jacob Wright Colvin employee said. “We put these nets up so nobody working out gets hit with a soccer ball obviously, and yeah, my job is to just make sure everyone is fine and no one gets hurt.” Noah Blackwell, a student and regular Colvin Center attendee, said he loves the new addition. “I like the Mac room because it’s a really nice change of pace and change of scenery,: Blackwell said. “I really like how Oklahoma State is coming up with new ways to get people to work out. I also like to clear my head and the new soccer field is cool because not many universities can say they have a field on campus.” The Mac Gym is located near the back of the Colvin Recreation Center just by the basketball and volleyball courts. Gym hours: Monday through Thursday are 8am-5pm, 8:30pm-12pm. Friday is 8am-5pm. Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5pm. news.ed@ocolly.com

Student television review

Everybody’s favorite sociopath is back and this time he’s raising a child with his wife, Love. “You” is a show that embraces the insane and for season three that remains true. Season 3 actually turns up the temperature about 200 degrees, instead of just the show focusing around one killer it revolves around two. This season picks up almost immediately where we left off last time we saw Joe and Love. The married couple has successfully moved to the upper suburbs of Madre Linda, a fictional city in California that has a very ironic and playful taste for true crime stories and murder mysteries. Just like every season so far in the show a whole new round of characters are surrounding Joe and it really does seem like every single personality possible collides with Joe and Love. This time around I really think the supporting characters are far more fleshed out and relevant to the overall story than ever before. Whether it’s Ben Mehl’s fairly minor and very loveable character of Dante, a blind librarian who’s a very attentive friend. Or it’s Marienne played by Tati Gabrielle, a person that Joe gets to know very well. Penn Badgley and Victoria Pedretti play the roles of Joe and Love so well you almost forget that they’re not actually a sociopathic married couple that happens to commit multiple murders. This season is all about their marriage and even more than before the writers take a poke at Joe’s hypocrisy. Joe Goldberg is at least in his mind and sometimes rightfully so a motivated killer. He convinces himself that there’s a solidified purpose for every murder so in his mind he isn’t even remotley evil. So what happens when a psychopath marries a psychopath he doesn’t morally agree with? Craziness is what happens. Hilarious, unhinged, insanity and every second of it is captivating. The 10 episode season doesn’t have many dull moments and every character that’s given more than 2 lines has their own arc and eventually gets their moment in the spotlight. There will definitely be times it will feel like a ridiculous amount of things are happening and you’ll probably ask yourself how the hell one or two people can get away with so much creepiness. Given the stature of the show, it’s more than fair to wonder where the show can go next season without getting too repetitive. However, in the end, “You” is very aware of what type of show it is and this season really does feel like the most complete yet. You can watch “You” on Netflix. It started streaming Oct. 15. entertainment.ed@ocolly.com

NOW IS THE TIME TO WORSHIP!

Come! Now is the time to worship. Come! Now is the time to give your heart. Come! Just as you are to worship. Come! Just as you are; before your God. Come!

A dictionary definition: “the reverent love and allegiance accorded to a deity, idol or sacred object.” The greek words for worship combine ideas of “falling down before, paying homage to, and serving.” Someone has said, “recognizing the worth of God and offering our honor, praise and adoration to the one who is altogether worthy.”

I am sure many have heard the words of this chorus. It is a challenge and invitation to come to Christ and worship. The chorus mentions the Biblical fact that one day every knee will bow, and every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord, but the greatest When God gave his son for all people, where “none were righteous, no not one;” where treasure will be for those who do it now. ”none seek God;” it is truly amazing. Come! Now is the time to worship! When (Ro.3:10,11) God so loved the world! Because most think of worship, their thoughts go to a of Christ’s death for us, God will freely religious service where there is singing, Bible forgive and give a new life to all who will reading and preaching. Really the essence of come to Christ; trust and follow him. It is worship goes deeper. You can have a truly amazing! That is why the song mentioned above is very appropriate. Getting to know OSU’s rugby club Jaxon Malaby Staff Reporter

Rugby players are no strangers to injuries like separated shoulders and MCL sprains, but for four members of the Oklahoma State rugby team, their passion for the game is limitless. Although some students just started playing the sport, other students, like Cameron Payne, a freshman pre-law major, have been playing for a longer time. “I’ve been playing since the end of seventh grade, or around seven years, because my brother played and I liked the game so I decided to get into it,” Payne said. Like Payne, Quetz Lujan, a sophomore mechanical and aerospace

engineering major, has played the sport before he got on the OSU team. “I’ve been playing for about six years now, I got started in high school when the coach recruited me to play,” said Lujan. However, players like Andrew Clark, a junior finance major, and Selton Thomas, a senior engineering major, do not have as much experience as some of their members. “I started at the beginning of 2019, when coach recruited me,” Clark said. Thomas joined the club his freshman year and did not play rugby before attending OSU. Rugby is played with an elongated ball and features 13 to 15 players on the field at once. Some people draw similarities to rugby and football, be-

cause the goal is to take the ball past the opponent’s touch line. But, to some members of the OSU team, they could not be more different. “As someone who’s played both football and rugby I would say there’s just a lot more class in rugby, there’s a lot more sportsmanship than you see in football,” Payne said. “As someone who has also played football, it’s a team sport. Anyone can play rugby,” Clark said. “Rugby is also a brotherly love sport where when you get done playing a team, you don’t trash talk them afterwards, you tell them thanks for coming out.” Lujan focused more on the physical aspect of the game and he players consistently playing throughout the game unless something like a field

injury or a ball goes out of bounds happens. Playing rugby, teammates may suffer some injuries. “I had a separated shoulder,” said Clark, sparking groans from the other present players. Remembering his injury, Payne said he suffered a MCL sprain. Other teammates had stories of injuries from playing the sport. “I got hit in the eyes, couldn’t see for a little bit, had to readjust them,” Lujan said. After hearing his teammates tell their injury stories, Thomas revealed his injury. “Foot blisters,” Thomas said. news.ed@ocolly.com

OSU would not have pulled out this win. Off a quarterback Spencer Sanders interception, Texas was rolling down the field, up 17-3. It looked like the Longhorns were about to be up 24-3. and the offense sputtering, coach Mike Gundy deserves credit for sticking to the run game and letting the game take its course. It is tempting to abandon the run game and fully lean on the passing game, but OSU stuck with it as running back Jaylen Warren rumbled to 193 yards and wore down the Texas defense. Defense clamping down late Going off that last point, the offensive approach worked, but it went hand-in-hand with the defense. After the Longhorns looked in control to begin the game, OSU’s defense was suffocating. On the last six possessions, it forced four punts, a turnover on downs and a game-sealing interception. None of those drives were more than four plays or seven yards. Credit to OSU’s pass coverage The Longhorns came in with the fifth-best scoring offense and a fiery

passing game, but the Cowboys limited Texas’ passing game. OSU held Big 12 leading receiver Xavier Worthy to five receptions for 28 yards and No. 2 option Joshua Moore to three receptions for 28 yards on a combined 17 targets. It was a combo of pass rush and solid coverage for OSU. Time of possession in the fourth When you put it all together, OSU did just about everything right in the fourth. The Cowboys won the time of possession battle 10:59 to 4:01. They churned out first downs with an 11-0 advantage in that category. And they had a 170-1 advantage in total yards over the Longhorns. This season, the Cowboys have played well when it has mattered most, and they did it again on Saturday. sports.ed@ocolly.com

Busting records sports

Cowgirls continue to roll in fall slate

Chris Becker Assistant Sports Editor The streak continues. The No. 1 Oklahoma State Cowgirls golf team took home the Jim West Challenge Trophy for its third win in as many events this fall season. The Cowgirls bested TCU by seven strokes for the win with a score of 39-under, which rewrote tournament and school record books. The team score crushed the course record of 28-under set by Ole Miss in 2019 and the tournament record of 33-under which Duke set in 2017. The 39-under is the program’s lowest 54-hole score nesting the previous mark by five strokes. It’s the time the Cowgirls have begun a season with three straight victories and the fifth time the Cowgirls have won three straight at any point in the season. Caley McGinty won her second straight individual title. She birdied her final two holes to capture the solo lead at 15-under. Her score tied the program’s lowest individual 54-hole score record, set the tournament record and course record. Two other Cowgirls finished inside of the top-10. Isabella Fierro finished in third at 11-under and Rina Tatematsu finished tied for 10th. The No. 1 Cowgirls are back in action Oct. 25 at the East Lake Cup in Atlanta. File Photo
