“Living” offers comfortable residential with high quality and efficient space. Our concept tries to keep the connection between the resident and the natural environments with the inside inner court. “Working” offers urban farming concept which will bring independent and productive family into reality. “Recreation” offers relaxation spaces where social interactions will be bonded in the family. Review: In our opinion, the design has a few minuses. We did not take notice about family growth. We should include “grow house” concept inside our design.

Urban House concept become the best alternative to build house in recent years. This concept especially popular in big, populous cities. In this competition, we will offer you with our signature urban house design with 5 x 20 meters' surface area. We choose the location at small area inside Jalan Janti's corridor, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta Province. This location is special because it is located at Primary Collector Street and a lost space. Lost spaces exist as an excess of urban development and vastly unmaintained. We choose it as our initial step in urban house design. Our urban house design will be focused in 3 functional elements: living, working, and recreation. 1

the doomsday. Nearly all species on earth was wiped out, leave alone aves class. The huge explosion on earth generated enormous radiation which radicalise genetic structure in the survivors. For the bird race, radiation increase their brain capacity and their body growth. In the latest evolution the ancient bird race become the legendary human-bird race which named Homo archeopterya. Review: The human bird retains its ability to fly hence we design their residence in Ear th's tropospheric layer. However, like in the real world, their development devastates the earth. It makes their urban design is static and rigid.

The competition invites architect students to imagine how human evolve if our ancestors didn't come from primate. How the relevant residential concept will be? In our opinion, this is a complex competition. We need to imagine initial step of alternate human development and fit the imagination into recent development and mode. We collected several animal class and make a simple research about their evolution process. We decided aves as an alternate human ancestor. Our decision is strengthened from Mayan legend which said that long time ago lived bird-human race. This myth race leaved earth to search better dwelling. 250-140 million years ago, carnivore and reptile were possessor of earth. It was all changed in 5

The evolution was started in the New Era, 65 million years ago. The mutation generated by the huge explosion made birds smarter and larger. Their body growth emerged additional bones in their wings.

The evolution kept going after the New Era. The bird intelligence was increasing. They started to develop hands so they can hunt and build simple settlement.

Around 1.7 million years ago, bird posture changed dramatically. They started to stand up straight, became bigger and taller. Their hands became more skilled. The Homo archeopterya rises.

to dead-end road. I decided to use this location for my design. My design use very small space and local materials, which is reflected in my design name. This is particularly to avoid high cost. My design offers micro library so children in neighbourhood can enrich their knowledge. My design offers biological garden to teach them productivity. My design offers stage for cultural show so they can keep and learn their identity as Indonesian.

Being smart doesn't need a huge space. Being smart doesn't mean learn with school uniform. Being smart doesn't need to spend much money. Those statements are Indonesian majority's dream. Most of them never experience formal education. Many of them lives in trash scavenger village Ledhok Timoho. The adult in this village works as trash scavenger with a very low income. Hence, no funds for their children to go to school. The children in this village are taught to be a scavenger. They help their parents from an early age. I am concerned about this particular condition. To help them is my strong cause to join this competition. It was difficult to determine the place for my education house design. It is because people of Ledhok Timoho lives in slum near Gajah Wong riverbank. In my last search, I found small bridge lead 9

hope and vibrancy. Sunset embodies gratefulness to God for everything we have been passed. In this design philosophy, humanity will live harmonically and the balance between micro and macro cosmos will emerge.

The images in internet are more than enough evidence about the beautiful scenery in Intaran village, Bali. Beauty of the nature also embodied in their society. They prize their ancient values such as gotong royong (do everything together and help each other). In this competition we want to design sentry tower in Intaran village. The sentry tower can be used as contemplation space for people of Intaran. Contemplation intends to balance jagad alit (micro cosmos) with jagad ageng (macro cosmos), which they do frequently. The design offer 2 different sides, East and West. The 2 different sides depicture sunrise and sunset movement. Sunrise embodies lives with new 13

GONDAR (CORRUPTOR DWELLS 2030)“ “ Nippon Paint Young Designer Award 2014 (Re-Think Re-Create Future Living 2030) Nusakambangan, Indonesia, August 2014 Jurrors: Ahmad Djuhara, Andra Matin, Cosmas D Gozali, David I Tay, Francis Surjaseputra, Edward Kusma, Kurjanto Slamet, Roland Adam, Sibarani Sofian, Wendy Djuhara Individual Work Status: Finalist

My design will be focused on those two essentials. My design will be built in Nusa Kambangan prison complex, where their dreadful reputation is retained, but in underwater. The location will prevent the corruptors to escape. The design will also be built with counselling rooms, where they will be help to fix their mentality. In this building, the inmate will process their own faeces to be fertilizer which will be used in mangrove forest in the area.

According to Corruption Perception Index (CPI) in 2013, Indonesia was placed 114th from 117th countries. It means Indonesia is 3rd most corrupt country in the world. It is a very alarming news. I am very upset with the corrupt rats in this country. My feelings go stronger because they are not properly sentenced. What the Fu**! Their sentence is lighter than mere crime such as petty thief. They are sent to jail but with luxury rooms, some of them even can go out freely. It is predicted that the corruption trends will increase until 2030. I want to make real contribution to decreasing the corruption rates hence as an architect I come out with a design. I offer you with “Gondar” which is specially designed prison for the corruptors. I find out 2 essentials thing the corruptors afraid of: exile and impoverishment. 17

nowadays pragmatic house design. Seems like a good idea, eh? Our house design also gives special attention into the owner relations with nature. We provide a green open space in every house where the house owner can do sport, socializing, and have fun. We add a clock as the landmark in every open space as a reminder to take time and enjoy yourself. Review: We make a dynamic house design with good open green space. Unfortunately, we missed to calculate the amount of house we can built in the same space.

In our opinion, majority housing design become static and boring. The houses are built with same facades, interior, and even accessories. Meanwhile the urban design become more pragmatic and simple, they are losing their very own soul: personality uniqueness. In an attempt to answer this issue, we make a dynamic house design using unique “jendela nako” or louvre windows as the main show. Jendela Nako ensure an optimum air circulation. The uniqueness of Jendela Nako lays in easy replaceable glass within the windows. This glass can be replaced with various colour and texture. The diverse design of the glass also exposes the business opportunity which we offer to Sinar Mas Land. The Jendela Nako will grants opportunity to the house owner so they can add their own taste and personality without sacrifice the 21

The terrace garden hence will grant the “personality uniqueness” in our design. Review: Af ter we conducted a closer examination, we found that the design is not suitable for disabled person. In this case, we offer an option to change the elevation in the house into ramp which is more friendly design for disabled person.

“We are more numbers than individual”. This sentence was said by Yori Antar, an architect, to express his opinion about mass housing architecture when he was interviewed by housing-estate, April 2009. Still in the same spirit and concern, we explore “personality uniqueness” into the new depth. The challenge is: Integrating tropical house design into different personalities. We decide to combine the value of tropical house design such as: simplicity, transparency, functionality, regenerating ecological value, renewable energy, life cycle thinking, health and wellness, enhanced passive system, and sustainable material into our very own “personality uniqueness” design. We make our signature “terrace garden” along with a lot of green space. The terrace garden can be planted with various plant the owner desire. 25

education with the coral reef revitalization process. Education process is limited to witnessing coral reef by using visual presentation. Biorock can promote coral reef growth rate up to five times more efficient compared to coral reefs' self recovery. Biorock system which is mentioned above makes use of the converted kinetic energy from fans which are propelled by the wind to fasten sea water electrolysis to make more potassium carbonate. Potassium carbonate is used by coral reefs as coral buds substance. Furthermore, better coral reef condition can promote habitat survivability thus increasing the marine biota. In accordance with the vision of Reef Rejuvenation, coral reef ecosystem is revitalized, coral reefs' function as marine life habitat is restored, and people's quality of living will improve.

Indonesia is world's biggest maritime nation with 17.504 islands and 60 million residents who rely on marine resources. Indonesia owns coral reef 2 resources reaching up to 50.875 km equivalent to 18% of world's coral reef. However, only 5.3% of those coral reefs are in good condition. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) projected that in 2030 and 2050, coral reef damage will reach Alert 2 Bleaching. The causes of coral reef damage are nature and human activities. Out of 95% coral reef in Indonesia which is damaged from local human activities, 35% are classified in high threat and very high threat. The offered solution coming from our concern on coral reef problem covers damaged coral reef regeneration by using biorock, biofilter for polluted marine areas by using seaweed, and coral reef education. battling the increasing life pressure. The project will come in 2 phases: Man with Other (Improve Resilience with Forming a Community) phase and continued with Man with Nature (Improve Resilience with Absorbing Energy of the Universe) phase.

There is a mysterious enormous building in certain side of Menoreh Karst. In the quick glance, the building resembles a body of dove. The legend said that God himself came to Daniel Alamsjah dream and commanded him to build a place to pray in the hill. A devout Christian, Daniel bought the land and built a church with dove form so it will be protected by the holy spirit. Giant Chicken Church is the name given by locals. After many years, the building is in the sorry state. Vandalism took over the once beautiful church. I was questioned myself, “how to make the building radiate its former glory?”. I decide to do “new-life reuse”. I will revive the building spirit and history but not in the same function. My idea is to design a meditation space in the building. Meditation is enthused in recent society to 33

cemetery and Krobelus will be on the right place to slowing the conversion. Review: The idea itself is unique and a real solution. However, majority of Indonesian is conservative and will strongly decline this idea.

“You must not die in Jakarta!”. This sentence is weird but embrace a grim reality. Jakarta is under an unusual crisis: the crisis of burial site. The gap between supply and demand is so high, even the plantation and paddy field are converted into cemetery. Answering the theme of NPYDA 2015 “heart”, I will try to solve the crisis with my cemetery design “Krobelus”. I interpret heart as the symbiosis between the life and the death. Krobelus design uses 8 strategies: compact and simple, 5years timeout, active and recreative, multi productive, green and smart, vertical graveyards, united ziarah space, and zero energy. TPU (public cemetery) Tegal Alur is my chosen place. The cemetery consists of vast area of 62.08 Ha. However, all of the area but 10 Ha is productive land. The area is rapidly converted into 37

corners of the city are controlled by "the lobster eater"? Then, if there is no space for small communities to express their freedom, to maximize their abilities and creativity. At least the design of Ledhok Timoho Waste Product Craft Centre could accommodate the villagers' freedom to be creative in waste processing, improve their living standards, educate people, give them the opportunity to interact with the wider community, and increase awareness of environmental care.

The entire population of Ledhok Timoho village works as scavenger. It is safe to assume that they rely on trash to make living (Astramaya). So, what happen to the trash? Based on survey, 70% of the trash are sold to collectors, only 8% are recycled, and the rest are neglected. Limited access make this village is "less-noticed" and hard to sell their recycle products . Therefore, with the construction of Pusat Kerajinan Sampah (Waste Product Craft Center) that is located at Jalan Timoho, it is expected to expose their product, so that the villagers could be more eager to develop their skills in waste processing. The idea of this design is expected to answer a question, "Are small communities ready to face the AEC (Asean Economic Community)?" This question came from a statement, "the rich become richer, and the poor become poorer." What would happen if all the 41

CRAFT CENTRE “ “ BANTUL POTTERY Architectural Studio 5th Kasongan Village, Bantul, Indonesia, 2013

My design also offers workshop area. This area will give visitors opportunity to learn about terracotta art. There will be a small inn purposely built for visitors that want to experience live as people of Kasongan village.

In the colonial era, people of Kasongan village terrified with the Dutch policy about plantation. The people leaved their right to own a land and become a terracotta maker. This people was the beginning of renowned terracotta industry in Kasongan Village. In 1971, Sapto Hudoyo, a great artist form Yogyakarta, help Kasongan people to rapidly develop the industry into nowadays state. Highly recognised with superb quality of terracotta, Kasongan Village doesn't have a landmark to exhibit their work. I am interested to design a central gallery as a landmark of Kasongan Village. My design offers a small modular showroom area. The design is fitted with the building composition on the surrounded area. Traditional style in my design is purposed to assimilate further into Kasongan village ambience. 45

potential, I want to revitalise the Cagar Alam dan “ Taman Wisata Alam ” (recreation park) Gunung Gamping so it can be included into Objek dan Daya Tarik Wisata Alam (ODTWA). The project will be named Museum Situs Gunung Gamping Eosen (Gunung Gamping Eocene Site Museum). As the majority of residence in the project site is strictly conservative, the approach in the design will be: The Obscure: Primordial and Untouched Theory which will analyse intangible matters and The Role of Nature in Architectural Creativity Theory which will analyse tangible matters.

According to research by Professor Gerth (1929) and Purnamaningsih (1972), the limestone on the “Cagar Alam” (nature preserve) Gunung Gamping, Ambarketawang, Sleman contains marine fossils from Eocene epoch. The Eocene epoch happened in the Cenozoic era, 56.7-35.5 million years ago. The data shows that the limestone in the sanctuary is the oldest on Java island. In unfortunate coincidence, massive exploitations in 1756, the sanctuary is left with nothing but 10 meters high chunk of limestone. The majority of people around the sanctuary still follow the ancient custom. They did “Saparan Bekakak”, an ancient sacrificial ritual. They sacrifice a pair of husband and wife, symbolise with sticky rice human dolls, as a tribute to spirits that dwell in the limestone mountain. This ritual is commemorated every Javanese month of Sapar. Realising the 49

Moro of Morotai. Moro people is the indigenous trible who first lived on Morotai. Even Morotai was named after them. Nowadays, Moro people are no longer existed in modern life. They are believed as disappeared to the forest since world war and colonialism by western. Their buildings were demolished . No more evidences and signs of their existence except story and myth around Morotai. Some people would calls them as local myth. Even many believe that they are still live in Morotai Island. Nowadays Morotai Island is habited by Tobelo and Galela from North Halmahera as the closest district to Morotai. 59 49

The design of National War Museum in this proposal emphasizes on the way a new cultural hub can influence and be influenced by its surrounding, through physical aspect ( such as physical simillarities and visual connection with landmark and heritage buildings ), programmatical aspect ( cultural inspired, educative programs ) and sustainability aspect. Along the process, broad range of local and global inspiration influenced the design, from local pattern that becomes the main generator of the structure, to religious buildings around the world that are able to promote "peace" as a counter idea to "war" as a main content of the museum. RE-SCALING THE HEXAGON : HUMANIZING THE SCALE OF THE URBAN SPACES the geometric plans and infrastructure of New Delhi might has impacted the city's traffic issues. its car driven planning that lacks of human scale

consideration needs to be improved to solve the traffic issues such as providing spaces that are walking distance, human proportion, and comfortable. The building, which located right in front of the hexagon, used the pattern and the scale of the hexagon as a starting point, which later is applied in many different forms, including structures, circulations , programs, etc. The scale and the building height is adjusted to surrounding buildings, and the focus is to create human friendly icon.
