The Down Specialist In 2013 Yeti celebrated its 30th anniversary. The first down sleeping bags were crafted in 1983, and have since been preferred by discerning outdoor enthusiast. Made for extreme conditions Yeti was founded in East Germany near Berlin in 1983. The vision was to create outdoor equipment that would withstand extreme conditions. The focus was on high-quality down sleeping bags and down clothing providing optimal protection in harsh weather. These fundamental conditions still remain an integral component of the Yeti-philosophy in the entire product strategy. At that time no other products met these requirements, and thus Yeti constructed the first sleeping bags with local down and materials. The quality continuously improved and the interest in high-quality products grew increasingly. Soon, Yeti products were being used for extreme expeditions, like in the mountains of Kazakhstan and Kirgizia. 30 years of experience Since the beginning Yeti has been working according to the principle of quality before quantity. All the materials used have been carefully selected and tested to ensure that they live up to the most stringent requirements and norms. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Yeti products improved even more as it became possible to import technical materials

Daunenspezialist Yeti feiert in diesem Jahr seine 30jährige Erfolgsgeschichte. Was 1983 begann, ist für alle Outdoor-Enthusiasten längst nicht mehr wegzudenken: Vor 30 Jahren produzierte Yeti seine ersten Daunenschlafsäcke. Schlafen unter extremen Bedingungen Am Anfang war die Vision: Yeti wollte Outdoor-Ausrüstung kreieren, die selbst unter extremen Umständen funktioniert. Widerstandsfähige, schützende, sichere Daunenschlafsäcke und Daunenkleidung, die jedem Wetter trotzen. Mit dieser Vision wurde Yeti 1983 im Osten von Deutschland, in der Nähe von Berlin, gegründet. Zu dem Zeitpunkt gab es dort noch keine Produkte, die sich nach den Bedürfnissen für Extrembedingungen orientierten. Für Yeti wurde dieser Anspruch zur Firmenphilosophie: Das Unternehmen fertigte seine ersten Schlafsäcke aus einheimischen Daunen und Materialien. Die Qualität der Produkte hat sich seitdem beständig verbessert. Gleichzeitig wuchs das Interesse. Schnell avancierte Yeti zum Ausrüster für außergewöhnliche Expeditionen, etwa für Bergtouren durch Kasachstan oder Kirgisien. 30 Jahre Yeti – 30 Jahre Erfahrung „Qualität statt Quantität“ – diesem Prinzip folgte Yeti von Anfang an. Next to Nothing The secret behind the extreme lightness lies in the ultra thin thread, which has a diameter of only a fraction of a human hair bringing the weight of 1.000 kilometers to a mere 140 grams. Still it is both as durable and tear-proof as it is light and airy. That’s why wearing a Yeti feels almost like wearing nothing...

Next to Nothing Das Geheimnis der Leichtigkeit liegt im mikroskopisch dünnen Garn, dessen Durchmesser nur einen Bruchteil eines menschlichen Haars ausmacht. 1000 Kilometer dieses Garns bringen lediglich 140 Gramm auf die Waage. Die Gewebe sind dennoch genauso strapazierfähig und reißfest, wie sie ultraleicht und luftig sind. Als Jacke getragen - ein Hauch von Nichts.

3. Packable Wearing a Yeti almost feels like wearing nothing – and this also goes when packed. Most Yeti jackets and vests can be minimized to almost... nothing. Just turn the left hand pocket inside out, wrap the jacket and zip. It’s as easy as that! Then you can bring your Yeti anywhere and still keep warm and cosy even when the dew falls on the leaves or through a chilly summer breeze.

Crystal Down Crystal Down - Masterpieces of Nature A human being in a down sleeping bag is halfhuman and halfgoose. If he were a goose, and not a human, he would never feel cold. Some ruthless scientists are said to have once locked up geese in a cooling chamber. They then decreased the air temperature to minus 110 degrees Celsius. As the scientists opened the door to the chamber after the experiment, the geese waddled towards them in good health. A polar bear would not have survived such an experience. Nevertheless, most people would never think of trading places with a waterfowl. They would miss their human intelligence, without which they could not devise cooling chambers to research the reasons why geese and ducks do not freeze. And the reason is: feathers insulate perfectly. In terms of energy efficiency, geese and ducks are the most efficient heat and energy power plants the world has ever seen. Gentle but tough If we could sew a decent cover using only the plumage of a waterfowl, we would do. But the flight feathers proved too unwieldy. The down that warms the goose’s chest and belly, however, proved to be a stroke of luck. Thousands and thousands of super-soft, keratin filaments grow radially outwards from a tiny center. Each of these filaments contains innumerable tiny, branch-like fibers with nearly invisible hooks. When the down are packed together, they attach themselves to each other and build thousands of tiny, warmth-retaining air chambers. This natural solution is lighter, more flexible and better insulated than anything that humankind has ever developed. The loftier, the fluffier Down are static masterpieces wirh a fill power (loft), that resists a small amount of pressure but gives in under stronger pressure. They resemble miniscule cathedrals with their filigreed, curved crossbeams. After a single impact, the real stone crossbeams of a cathedral would be ruined forever; those made of keratin, however, can withstand any impact and always spring back to their correct form. Loft is measured by laboratories under the supervision of the International Down and Feather Laboratory (IDFL) in Salt Lake City, USA. The higher the volume, the higher the loft and the quality – and Yeti-down achieve the highest possible bulking power of up to 900 cubic inches. In recognition of its large, organically grown power and beauty they are called „Crystal Down“.

Crystal Down - Ein Meisterstück der Natur Ein Mensch in einem Daunenschlafsack ist halb Mensch, halb Gans. Wäre er ganz Gans, wäre ihm nie kalt. Skrupellose Wissenschaftler sollen Gänse einmal in eine Kühlkammer gesperrt haben. Sie drehten die Lufttemperatur auf minus 110 Grad Celsius herunter. Als sie die Tür wieder entriegelten, watschelte ihnen die Vogelschar munter und wohlauf entgegen. Ein Eisbär hätte das nicht überlebt. Dennoch wollen die wenigsten Menschen mit einem Wasservogel tauschen. Die meisten fürchten um ihre Intelligenz, mit deren Hilfe man zum Beispiel Kühlkammern bauen kann, um zu erforschen, warum Gänse und Enten nicht frieren, und um zu staunen: Das Gefieder isoliert perfekt. Energetisch betrachtet sind Gänse und Enten die effizientesten Kraft-Wärme-Kopplungskraftwerke aller Zeiten. Zart und hart im Nehmen Könnten wir aus dem Federkleid einen anständigen Bezug nähen – wir täten es. Doch erweisen sich die langen Kiele als zu sperrig. Die Daunen jedoch, die die Gans an Brust und Bauch wärmen, sind ein Glücksfall. Aus einem winzigen Kern wachsen strahlenförmig abertausende superweiche sogenannte Filamente, bestehend aus der Hornsubstanz Keratin. Jedes dieser Filamente ist mit unzähligen Verästelungen versehen, die wiederum mit tausenden kaum sichbaren Widerhaken bestückt sind. Kommen viele Daunen zusammen, verkletten sie sich mit ihren Häkchen und bilden viele kleine wärmespeichernde Luftkammern. Ein natürliches System, das leichter ist, flexibler und besser isoliert, als alles, was der Mensch je ausgetüftelt hat. Je Loftiger, desto luftiger Sie sind statische Meisterwerke. Daunen besitzen eine Bauschkraft, auch Fillpower oder Loft genannt, die leichtem Druck standhält, höherem Druck aber bereitwillig nachgibt. Mit ihren filigranen, gebogenen Verstrebungen gleichen sie winzigen Kathedralen. Während die echten aus Stein allerdings nach einmaligem Zusammenbruch ruiniert sind, richten sich die natürlichen aus Keratin immer wieder auf. Gemessen wird der Loft von Laboren, die dem International Down and Feather Laboratory (IDFL) in Salt Lake City, USA, unterstehen. Man gibt 30 Gramm Daunen in einen Glaszylinder, belastet sie mit einem Normgewicht und misst in Kubikzoll das Volumen, das die Daunen unter diesem Druck beibehalten. Je höher das Volumen, desto höher der Loft und die Qualität. Yeti-Gänsedaunen erreichen die höchstmögliche Bauschkraft von bis zu 900 cubic inch (Kubikzoll). In Würdigung ihrer großen, organisch gewachsenen Kraft und Schönheit nennen wir sie „Crystal Down“. Jede Yeti-Daune ist durch den Yeti Ethical Down Code rückverfolgbar.

Crystal Down Dry Down has a tendency to collapse when wet, which has kept down fanatics a bit frustrated under very humid conditions. But not anymore. Through the sophisticated QuixDown Technology, it’s now possible to prevent the down from absorbing water. That’s why we call Crystal Down treated with this technology Crystal Down Dry. In 2014 the North and Mode jackets are filled with Crystal Down Dry.

Crystal Down Dry Daunen-Fanatiker waren bislang mitunter frustriert, da Daunen unter sehr feuchten Bedingungen ihrem guten Ruf nicht immer gerecht werden konnten. Damit ist jetzt Schluss. Mit der ausgeklügelten QuixDown Technology ist es von nun an möglich, dass Daunen vor absorbiertem Wasser geschützt werden. Only one factory in the world can produce this unique fabric, and with a production limit of only 35 meters of fabric per day, Next to Nothing is reserved the truly dedicated lightweightfans. Next to Nothing 2.0 Just as we thought it couldn’t get any lighter, we developed the next generation of this unique fabric – Next to Nothing 2.0. Where the orginal fabric was a mix of 7d and 10d threads, Next to Nothing 2.0 consists of only 7d threads making it 20% lighter. This brings the total weight per squaremeter to 20 grams, which equals ¼ of a normal 80 grams print paper. Next to Nature The newest and maybe most trailblazing innovation is the new eco-friendly and highly water repellent fabric Next To Nature, which is based on renewable plant oil from the non-food riciniusplant. It grows mainly on dry wasteland and does not occupy farming land. Furthermore it is very robust and therefore requires significant less pesticide than other plants.

COMPANYON

In many ways a Companyon vest, jacket or coat is the original Yeti garment. The name derives from the term ”Your Travel Companyon”, as this is what it is. Basically a Companyon is a unique composition of three things: The ultralight Next to Nothing fabric, the exclusive Crystal Down filling and state of the art functionality – not least through the ultra packable feature. But it’s so much more. Feeling light. Freedom of movement. Feeling cosy. Keeping warm. Being special. Feeling natural. But these are just words. Nothing convinces more than trying one for yourself...

Genau betrachtet, sind Companyon Weste, Jacke oder Mantel die Original-Yeti-Kleidung. Denn der Name stammt aus der Formulierung ”Your Travel Companyon” – „Dein Reisebegleiter“ – und besser kann man sowohl Yeti als auch unsere Kollektion nicht beschreiben. Transparent production In the East German capitol of Saxony, Yeti has created a totally transparent down production facility where curious visitors can follow each single down from the initial down chamber all the way through the transparent tubes to the end destination inside a warm and cosy Passion, VIB or maybe the new Fever Zero. Handmade in Germany Yeti Manufaktur was established a couple of years ago, and together with the Yeti production facility in Görlitz, situated 100 km from Dresden, all Yeti sleeping bags are being finalized here. Here the empty shells comes alive through the enrichment of the unique Crystal Down combined with the gentle needlework of the experienced hands, which encapsulates the down into a secret compartment of unique insulation. We at Yeti take pride in our history, so we place great emphasis on maintaining our tradition of hand-making products at our factories in Görlitz and Dresden.

Since its debut at the 2009 Fashion Week in Tokyo, the Yeti Companyon range has caused quite a sensation in the fashion industry. Inspired by this collection, the designer Yuko Yamazaki developed her own limited-edition exclusively for Yeti. Her team had already gained experience working with down and the ultra light Next To Nothing fabric, and since the first edition the Yuko Yamazaki range has expanded into even more thrilling colours and styles. The Yuko Yamazaki collection has a much more fashionable touch including daring lines, exciting new fabrics and elegant details. In short it’s a must have product!
