Course Details: This module is designed to enable the learner develop skills, gain knowledge and attitudes necessary to work with children who have additional needs. The learner will gain an understanding of the support needed to ensure children are fully included and integrated in a variety of care and educational environments. It aims to provide the learner with an understanding of the context of special needs, associated issues and approaches used as well as oering an overview of the legislation and policy development relating to children with additional needs in Ireland today. Course documentation for this journalism course is detailed, comprehensive and easy to read. This FETAC accredited, distance learning course means that students can study flexibly at home, or at work, while gaining an internationally accredited Qualification.

Course Details: Learners who complete this new programme will obtain the knowledge on different definitions of disability in relation to historical and cultural influences. Learners will acquire knowledge of various types of physical and learning disabilities. They will be familiar with the different assistive technology and teaching methods which will help with the negative aspects of each disability and will acquire an understanding of the various theoretical models of disability and will have an awareness of the different legal issues associated with disability.

Course Details: The purpose of this Special Needs Assisting programme is to equip the learner with the skills necessary to ensure adults or children with special needs are offered the same opportunity to access education compared to those who do not have special needs. Learners will examine the different educational options available for children in Ireland under current legalisation. This programme will outline the importance of the difference between an inclusive and integrated educational environment. The learner will also study the impact of special needs on behaviour and understand the different techniques to help with maladaptive behaviour. Who should complete this course? This new module is designed to give learners an understanding of the context of special needs, associated issues with special needs and approaches to ensuring the needs of children with special needs are met. Learners will gain broad knowledge of a range of special needs, the cause, treatment and interventions also.
Learners who successfully complete this course will: 4
Appreciate the context of children with special needs in Ireland. 4 Be aware of the range and characteristics of the more common types of special needs conditions 4 Be aware of the importance of working as part of the multidisciplinary team and understanding the value of good communication skills. 4 Demonstrate knowledge of best practice when working with children who have special needs. 4 Become aware of legislative and policy developments relating to children with special needs as well as an understanding the history of special needs in Ireland. 4 Gain an understanding of the dierent learning programmes and therapy available to help children with special needs. 4 Be aware of the issues faced by the child with the special need as well as the issues faced by the family on a daily basis. 4 Be aware of local and national services available for those with special needs. 4 Gain an understanding of the issues associated with working in specialist settings in public, private and voluntary childcare educational environments..
