Champion her on a path that she loves. “I feel that the Peru Circus changed and shaped my entire life. I know not everyone takes it all the way and builds their whole life around it, but I am fortunate enough to have been able to do that since it was what I wanted to do. I learned endless life lessons as well in my time with the Peru Circus. I learned dedication, hard work, artistry, creativity, strength, friendship, helping others to build them up and push them forward. I learned how friends can become family and support you more than you ever expected. Most importantly I learned to dream endlessly and never give up,” Nugent shared. The former Peru Circus performer is now the head aerial trainer at Savannah Cirque training studio in Savannah, Georgia. She also owns her own entertainment company, Divina Productions and Luxury Entertainment. She has nine students she trains, and all have placed in the national competition and will be competing for Team USA in
the World Games with her. On top of all that, she has also taken on another endeavor. “I have built an outdoor family friendly COVIDsafe cirque show for Plant Riverside District in Savannah. Plant Riverside District is an incredible historical industrial hotel and entertainment district that has just opened in 2020
continued from Page 1 in Savannah. Our show is called Streetmosphere with Savannah Cirque,” Nugent said. Now that she has the gold in her hand, what is next? “I will be training myself and my students to compete in the World Games with Team USA to hopefully bring home the gold for the United States,” she said. Reflecting upon her success and what is to come with the World Games, Nugent said, “I actually never thought I would compete at this level. My heart has always been in performance, but I found myself without performance work in the middle of the pandemic and when this opportunity arose my boss, Sabrina Madsen, owner of the studio, said that it was time for me to show my students what we can do when we feel like everything is crashing around us. She said we need to rise up out of the ashes that is this pandemic and find ways to safely train ourselves as well as our students. She said that I should enter the competition as a role model to my students to work just as hard along-
side them as they train to go for the gold. With that I started offering my private training sessions for the same price as our normal group classes and worked endless hours with each individual student as well as training myself. I honestly never expected to win but I suppose when you eat, sleep and breathe the train-

ing and preparing for competition, what does Nugent do with any spare time? “I very rarely have spare time, but when I do I love spending it with my family. Taking the kids to the park. Making Sunday dinners and having game nights with our close friends. I truly believe family is the most important thing, so all my spare time goes to them. gent’s excitement. “Making new connections and friendships and learning about what inspires them and pushes them to be so driven and incredible” is what
she is thinking about. In the meantime, Nugent and her students will continue to train hoping to bring home the gold for the USA!

Petitition opposing J-turns on U.S. 31 presented to INDOT A petition with over 1,500 signatures from citizens who oppose INDOT’s plan to install J-turns along U.S. 31 was submitted to INDOT Jan. 14. “Residents between Plymouth and Tipton have been telling INDOT to forget installing J-turns on U.S. 31 for years now,” commented Bill Friend, former Indiana State legislator and property owner who lives and farms in Miami County. "J-turns were designed for low speed, low volume traffic areas. U.S. 31 is packed with thousands of fast-moving semitrucks, farm equipment, school buses and passenger vehicles in excess of 70 mph. Low-cost Jturns invite disaster and will be detrimental to local businesses. We want them stopped.”
Bill Friend Former Indiana State Legislator The petition, which is available at www.CitizensAgainstJturns.co m, gained momentum this past December as more citizens up and down the corridor were given an opportunity to sign it. Citizens Against Jturns has also been sharing videos from actual residents along the corridor who oppose INDOT’s plans. “We’re Hoosiers,” added Friend. “We understand that there’s only so much money and it
could take years to do this right. We’re just asking for the same solutions that other parts of the state have been getting with overpasses and traditional on and off ramps. Let’s not waste taxpayer money on low-cost options that make the highway less safe. INDOT’s plan is a solution in search of a problem. We suggest that NO action is better than the WRONG action.” Nearly 70% of citizens who live along the corridor between Plymouth and Tipton oppose INDOT’s plan according to a poll conducted in 2020. The poll, which features a 3% (plus or minus) margin of
error was conducted by DatAttic, a polling and research company based out of Mishawaka, Indiana. For more information, visit www.CitizensAgainstJturns. com. About Citizens Against J-turns: The Citizens Against J-turns group was formed in the spring of 2020 when rumors began circulating along the corridor that INDOT was moving quickly to install J-turns along the highway. The group consists of citizens up and down the corridor who view the installation of J-turns on U.S. 31 as a wasteful and dangerous precedent.
