would be do the challenging things that your mind says that’s
crazy to do. Face it head on because you will become a stronger
human being physically and mentally. Life is just a mental game full of little decisions that add up. You’re never too good to mop the mats or ask the janitor how his day is going. Remember where you came from and finally listen to Coach Hobbs when he has those 20-

Pastor Aaron Thomas McCombs, 58 Pastor Aaron Thomas McCombs, 58, Rochester, Indiana, gave his last gift to others as he became an organ donor on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Right before his gift of life was shared with others, his family offered these words: “The man in front of you today is a very special one. The kindness you feel coming from his heart is only made by a full life of serving others. He taught his friends to be their best selves. He taught his family to love. He taught his community to trust. He walked with friends and strangers alike in good times and in bad all to lead them home to our Father in Heaven. God now holds his hand as you help him with his greatest and final act. God blessed us with a true hero. He is flying a little higher today.” Born May 21, 1962, in Denver, Colorado,

Richard Lee “DooDah” Behrens, 77, of Peru, entered eternal rest surrounded by his family at 8:23pm on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Dukes Memorial Hospital. He was born on Dec. 11, 1943, to John Fredrick “Fritz” and Kathryne Evelyn (Zeigler) Behrens in Peoria, Illinois. Richard shared his childhood with two sisters and a brother, Betty Jane, Linda and Jerry. He went to Pleasant Hill school until the Eighth grade. He was drafted into the Army in May 1965, stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and later shipped overseas to Germany. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal: Sharp Shooter Rifle. He was honorably discharged on May 11, 1967. On January 13, 1968, Richard married the love of his life, Sharon Elaine Eikenberry. She preceded him in death on February 14, 2018. Richard was hardworking, always providing for whatever the need was. He instilled great work ethics in all of his kids. “If you want something, you have to work for it” was his motto. Smart, caring and giving come to mind when his name is mentioned. He worked at many gas stations (actually pumping gas and checking oil for patrons) as well as working on cars. He also worked at Stellite in Kokomo, Indiana, and Caterpillar in Peoria,
Illinois. For 24 years, he worked at Wilson’s Meat Packing Logansport, Indiana. He loved to tinker and build. He could often be found with a pencil he had sharpened with his pocket knife, a piece of paper and a ruler, plotting his dream home and scouring the realtor books for the perfect piece of land to put it on. In the garden, he would turn the earth, plant the seeds and nurture the crops until it provided a bounty which he shared with others via five gal buckets. Later in life, he was the “supervisor” to those who planted and nurtured. Surviving are his children: a daughter Mel and husband Tony Anderson of Peru, two sons, Michael Behrens and Partner Matt, of Flossmoor, Illinois, and Jeffrey Behrens and companion Christina, of Marshall, Illinois. Also, five grandchildren: Brandy Peek and companion Brandon, Elwood, Indiana, Braxton Bowers and companion Chelsey, Rochester, Indiana, and Adrienne Ander-
son, Logansport, Indiana, Isabell, Sarah, Natalie Behrens, Marshal, Illinois. Also, nine great-grandchildren: Ella JoeAnn, Amya Lynn, Zayden Alexander, Hayden Raysel, Alyiah Marie, Christopher Michael, Ashlynn Ann, Kegan Lee, and Paislee Ann; as well as many, many bonus children who called him Papa DooDah as well and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are sister Linda Krider, Chilicothe, Illinois, sister in-law Carol, Behrens, Florida, and brother in-law Jim (Pam) Eikenberry, Rochester, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, sister Betty Jane Schlocher, brother Jerry Behrens, son Matthew Behrens, and grandson Mathew Anderson. At a later date, we will have graveside services at IOOF Cemetery in Rochester, Indiana with military rights by Veterans Affairs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to American Heart Association, and/or a homeless shelter or animal shelter of your choice, continuing his legacy of giving and providing for the less fortunate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.FlowersLeedyAllen.com.
If a loved one has passed away, let the funeral home know you would like to have it published in The Paper of Miami County. More obituaries can be found on Pages 4, 5 and 8.

THE PAPER
Obituaries Nancy Hamilton, 79 21 March 2021, at 11:03 a.m., my beautiful mom, Nancy Hamilton, left her sick body on this earthly world and spread her gorgeous wings to fly above all the pain. We were not ready to let her go, but it was her time to finally be free. She is leaving me behind, but she will always be with me. Her spirit will comfort those of us who love her during our darkest hours. She also leaves behind John Loftus, the man I want to spend forever with, and who keeps me grounded. Mom loves him like her own son. He is my other half, and I don’t think I could get through this without him. He is my rock. Rowena Arnold, her second daughter. My little sister. Not by blood, but by love. It all began with a 3-year-old loving a dog. And her two grandkids that mean the world to her, Alexus and Clayton Eudy. They have been the joy of her life. Sadly, she was preceded in death by my dad, Junior Hamilton, as well as her parents Hobart and Grace (Donathon) Bailey, her brothers Leon, Harold and James, and her sister Oma. She was born in a coal camp in Logan County, West Virginia, 1 December 1941. She is survived by two sisters, Eleanor and Ada, nephews Phil (Todd), Eddie (Tammy), Mike and Tim (Rob), and nieces Kim (Wes), Teresa (Jim), Paula, Nancy Francis, and Virgiline, as well as many great and great, great nieces and nephews and cousins. She is also survived by many other special people in her life. Kids by love, not blood. Jackie. She has loved you and watched you grow into the goodhearted man you
are today. Whenever you eat biscuits and gravy, think of her. Bobby. She has also had your back and believed in you no matter what was going on in your life. She’s always in your corner. Dewayne. Our families have been friends forever, and she has loved you from day one. You have always been so sweet. Preston. You have always been there for us, and you are a very important part of this family. You are much loved by us all. Bill. We have built a loving friendship with you, and mom saw the goodness in your heart from the very first time she met you. Carl, Miah, Crislea, Nelda, Ricky, Julie, Amy. The list of her “kids” goes on and on. Mom touched a lot of lives, and always had kindness in her heart. She loved animals and nature, and always looked forward to working in her flower beds and mowing the yard. Spring was her favorite time of the year. Her sweet dog Quenton will be lost without her. I could go on and on about her. She was perfect in my eyes. She was my mom. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. The funeral service followed at Noon, with pastor Wesley Crouch officiating. Burial took place at Memorial Lawns in Wabash, Indiana.
