Laughter was the way he found to get into anyone's soul because he always had such a great sense of humor and let it show any chance he could. Besides spending time with his family, he loved to fish or just be outside because that was where he found peace. Cooking was also a passion of his that he never let fade throughout the years. Merlie Joan Correll, 82, of Bunker Hill, passed away peacefully Dec. 6, 2021, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Joan was born Feb. 2, 1939, in Crookston, Minnesota, to the late John and Thelma (Reese) Hiemstra. She was raised in Platte, South Dakota, along with her sister and three brothers. She was fortunate to have had the opportunity to live and experience adventures all over the world. She was raised on a farm in South Dakota but in her life, she lived in seven other states and two countries, Spain, and Germany. She got to swim in the ocean off the coast of Portugal, visit castles and many historical sites in Germany, Austria, and France. She also went camping in France and Italy even managing to save one of her daughters from an alligator (or log) in a lake in France before coming to live in Indiana. She graduated from IVY Tech with a degree in accounting and spent most of her career as an office manager at Crop Maker. In her retirement, she enjoyed crocheting, in particular making afghans for family and friends, and visiting with her friends Sharon and Janet. What gave her the most joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was a dedicated spectator to all her grandchildren’s various events. She is survived by her daughters Connie (Frank) Cade, Peru, Shari Bowman, Ft. Myers, Florida, Tammy Sanders, Peru; her son Raymond (Cheryl) Molder, Peru; her ten grandchildren Joshua (Bethany) Cade, Marion, Grant (Michelle) Cade, Peru, Brittany (Adam) Enyeart, Peru, Alyssa Croxford, Kokomo, Indiana, Hannah Henderson, Miami, Indiana, Bradley Molder, Peru, Austin (Bre) Molder, Peru, Nykolas Molder, Peru, Aaron Cooley, Pendleton, Indiana, Zakkary (Samantha) Sanders, Peru; and nine great grandchildren with two more on the way.
