Sports Sports Round-up Lilly Maple becomes All Time Career Scoring Leader/Earns Mike McDonald Indiana Farm Bureau Impact Player of the Game Lady Braves fall to Kokomo

By Terry West In what was truly a Sectional like atmosphere, the Lady Braves fought hard but lost to a very physical Kokomo team Thursday, Jan. 27 with a score of 5446. Lilly Maple made history during the game as she became the all-time career scoring leader at Maconaquah High School. Maple had 30 points to raise her career total to 1721 points and surpassed Deja Mattox who held the previous record of 1701. Congratulations to Lilly! Also scoring in the contest were Miranda Stoll with six points, Lauryn Merritt with five points and 11 rebounds, Alexandra Merritt with three and Averi Miller with two points rounded out the scoring. The Lady Braves are now 15-7.

Maconaquah Boys Varsity Basketball defeats North Miami 80-65 By Tim Maiben We finally played North Miami in TRC play tonight. After moving our game a couple times due to our new court not being finished, we had to flip our conference matchup to an away game. It was a close contest in the first quarter, but we were able to break open the game in the second quarter as we outscored

Lilly Maple North Miami 28-5. In this stretch, we went on a 22-0 run. From there, we played a second half where our defense let up, and North Miami was able to do what they basically wanted. Brayden Betzner and Hayden Maiben led us in scoring with 21 points each. Bauer Maple & Josiah Ball had 12 pts and 11 pts, respectively. Brennan Bailey scored nine pts, and Trace Armstrong had 6 pts. Bauer Maple led us in assists with seven. Trace Armstrong led us in rebounds with six boards. Our record is now 10-2 with all twelve games being played on the road. Our conference record improves to 3-0. Maconaquah Boys JV Basketball defeats North Miami 47-42 We won three of the four quarters on our way to earning our tenth win of the season. It was a sloppy game as we turned the ball over too much, making it challenging to get in our offensive rhythm. After sitting out a game due to an injury, AJ Kelly led us in scor-

ing with 15 points. Ethan Zeiser scored 11 points, and also returning from an injury, Oakley Reeser scored six pts. Klaytin Kileeight pts, Kaden Miller- three pts, Jackson Collins & Nolans Jones- two pts each. Zach Sparks had six assists on the night. The JV improves our season record to 10-2. Girls Varsity Swimming beats Eastern High School – Greentown 134 – 51 By Janet McManus Senior night went off without a hitch for the girls! In the 200 medley relay the team of Jordan, Heath, Sebastian, and Dornich placed first followed by the team of Loshnowsky, Schoettmer, Winegarnder, and Tyra placing second. Hannah Montgomery placed first in the 200 free with Rodkey placing fourth and Winegardner placing fifth. In the 200 IM, Teegardin placed first (PR) with Abby Heath in second and Isenburg in fourth. The 50 free did not

pose a problem for Dornich, Tyra, and Hyde as they placed 1,2,3. Jernagan placed first in diving with McClain in third (PR) and Seymoure in fourth (PR). In the 100 butterfly, Sebastian placed first and Schoettmer placed third. Dornich, Hyde, and Loshnowsky placed 1,2,3 in the 100 free. Hannah Montgomery and Kaylinn Teegardin placed first and second in the 500 with Thea Tyra placing fourth. In the 200-freestyle relay, the team of Dornich, Teegardin, Isenburg, and Montgomery placed first followed by Winegardner, Rodkey, Loshnowsky, and Hyde placing third. Sebastian, Jordan, and Isenburg placed 2,3,4 in backstroke and Heath, Winegardner, an Rodkey placing 1,2,3 in the breaststroke. The final relay of the evening was good for Montgomery, Sebastian, Tyra, and Teegardin as they placed first followed by Isenburg, Jordan, Loshnowsky, and Hyde placing third. The swimmers of the meet go to Kaylinn Teegardin and Kathryn Rodkey. Kaylinn swam the 200 IM and dropped five seconds! She also swam the 500 for the first time and swam a 6:03! Kaylinn has an amazing work ethic in practice, and it pays off when she is ready to perform in meets! Kathryn Rodkey went three for three best times! She dropped three seconds in her 200 free, two seconds in her breaststroke and a second in her 50 free relay. Kathryn is fairly new to swimming and she doesn’t let that show, she is determined to give her all in the pool! Boys Varsity Swimming beats Eastern High School – Greentown 120 – 56 By Brad McManus

We had a great Senior night and final dual meet. We were missing six out of 18 guys due to sickness including senior Rhett Nead. It hurts my heart that Rhett missed the TRC meet and Senior night. Rhett has worked so hard this year in practice and improved so much. He will have one more chance to achieve his goal at sectional. Walker Hays is our other senior. Walker has been a great leader and role model this season. I know the freshman look up to him. He will be greatly missed. The 12 healthy boys got the job done. I had to move some of them around and some swam things for the first time. In the 400 Free relay, Walker anchored and swam butterfly. He went 58.63, a 1.5 sec drop. Quinn Richard dropped .05 in 50 Back. P.J. Higgins dropped 2.7 in the 100 Breast and swam the 500 for the first time. Cole Nye dropped 10.5 sec in the 100 butterfly.
