Mac Middle School Golf earns close win By Tait Wagner Facing a very talented and wellcoached Lewis Cass

Kings team, the Braves won by one shot, 195-196 in the last full team event of the year. Piercey Dyer led Maconaquah and was the match medalist with a two over 38. Piercey opened her round with three birdies in her first four holes and was able to finish with two pars in a row to secure medalist honors. Camron Metcalf was second for Maconaquah with a 50. Camron’s round didn’t start or finish in the way that he had hoped, but he played the rest of the nine well. This included two pars on both par threes. JT Dobbs followed up his solid play at The Waldo by playing well again at Rock Hollow. JT shot a 51 which included playing the first 3 holes in only 2 over par. Zach Duke’s swing wasn’t as sharp as it had been in recent events, but he kept finding ways to score en route to a solid 56. Aubrey Stoll continued her solid play with a 58 as she continues to fine tune her short game to

match her much improved long game. Emma Bond continued to strike the ball well on her way to a 60. As the season has progressed, Emma’s swing has become smoother, and she has really hit some nice shots. Hopefully that momentum carries into her eighth-grade season. Jayden Overdorf ’s round didn’t start as he hoped, but after the first three holes he was able to get back on track as he shot a 63. Clay Christopher also shot a 63 and his smooth swing earned praise for the opposing coach. Garret Smith continued to show the power he has to his game as he played well in exhibition play (Lewis Cass only had 8 golfers). Jayden, Clay, and Garrett only started playing the game at the start of the season and all have shown tremendous potential. Josh Loshnowsky, like Emma Bond, got his game back on track as the season came to a close and it should hopefully carry over into next season.

Sara’s Run for the Rocks is organized in memory of 10year-old Sara Ann Herrell, who was killed Oct. 14, 2015, when a drunk driver ran a stop sign. The proceeds from this 7th annual 5K and t-shirt sale are going to a dance scholarship set up in Sara’s memory. This scholarship is awarded to two students per year. One student will be beginning the study of pointe, just like Sara. The other student will be a high school senior in their last year of pointe. Because of those who participated in

this annual 5K, costs for the students who won the scholarships have been fully funded. Packet Pickup/Registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at the Nickel Plate Trail near Anytime Fitness in Peru, Indiana. Registration is $20 and includes a T-shirt. If you wish to have a t-shirt on race day, registration forms and payment are due no later than July 14. For those that may not wish to participate in the 5K, the public is encouraged to donate for this cause. There are two ways to give: 1.
