The Community Services of Starke County, Inc. received funding from the Starke County Community Wellness Grant, a Northern Indiana Community Founda?on Micro Grant and Kankakee Valley REMC Opera?on to host The Heart of Aging in Starke County, a series of wellness programs for older adults and caregivers of aging community members.

Weinert who has a background in educa?on, art, and ac?vity planning for older adults as an ac?vity director offers programs throughout the area introducing par?cipants to prac?ces that can inform one’s self-care, build confidence, and strengthen rela?onal well-being.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:

Tai Chi for Health – A gentle, low impact, easily adapted follow along exercise for balance, strength, flexibility and calm. Can be performed seated or standing. One hour ac?vity includes warm-up, engagement with movements, and cool down.

Balance Days – Informa?on on seasonal themes of balance that include fall preven?on, diet, daily living and ac?vity.

Snack Healthy – Par?cipants enjoy snacks that hydrate and balance the diet. Receive the recipes to incorporate in their day.

DESCRIPTIONS:

The Heart of Aging with Wisdom and Vitality – A learning series for older adults that explores various wellness topics infused with findings around neuroscience. Each session delivers an overview of core concepts, and an invita?on to engage in ac?vi?es that internalize the material. Life in Loss -Time to be present to one’s loss in a compassionate and encouraging space with an invita?on to par?cipate in s?llness prac?ces for discernment.

TERRY WAYNE CABLE

KNOX, IN - Terry Wayne “Redman”

Cable, 73, died Monday, January 13, 2025 at his home after a long fought battle with cancer. He was born November 17, 1951, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to the late John and Helen Hillard Cable. His first wife, Marilyn, died on February 11, 2006. On December 31, 2021, he married Sheila Miller.

Terry had worked over 40 years as a Heating and Air Technician at Bethlehem Steel/ArcelorMittal. His hobbies included raising farm animals, hunting, fishing, motorcycle, ATV and UTV adventures and restoring cars. He loved spending time outdoors. He loved his family very much.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila, daughters: Stephanie (Matthew) White of North Judson, Indiana and Carrie (Shane) Aaron of Knox, four grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and siblings: Jim (Sharon) Cable and Dan (Mary) Cable, both of Wanatah, Indiana, Glen (Patty) Cable of South Haven, Indiana, Randy (Vickie) Cable, Carol (Lauren) Edelen, Mary Smith and Grace Cable, all of Portage, Indiana. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Darryl and Butch Cable. Services were held Saturday, January 18, at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Jeff McGehee officiating. Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

DANNY McCARTY

PLYMOUTH, IN - Danny McCarty, 75, died Monday, January 13, 2025 in Plymouth, Indiana. He was born September 29, 1949, in Salt Lake, Kentucky to the late John and Florence (Reynolds) McCarty.

Danny enjoyed singing karaoke, fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, three sons: Danny (Bonnie) McCarty Jr of Monterey, Indiana, Elven McCarty of Knox, Indiana and Charles (Kelly) McCarty of Rochester, Indiana, one daughter, Candy McCarty of Plymouth, twenty one grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and siblings: Johnny McCarty of Knox, Eve (Rick) Murphy of Rolling Prairie, Indiana and Ava (Rodney) Correll of Rochester, Indiana. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Jeremiah Ray, Danny McCarty III and Sadie Overland and six siblings: Doris, Sylvester, Oscar, Billy, James and Beverly McCarty.

Services were held Monday, January 20 at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel. Burial was in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

DORIS HITTLE

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Doris Hittle, 95, died Wednesday, January 18, 2025 in Knox, Indiana. She was born November 5,1929, in North Judson, Indiana to the late Elmer and Edna (Collins) Whybrew. On July 30, 1950, she married Sylvester Hittle. He died March 26, 2023.

Doris was a Girl Scout leader, South Bend Tribune paper carrier and a member of the Eastern Star for 75 years. She loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by one son, Lance (Lori) Hittle of Monterey, Indiana, four daughters: Franna (Robert) Bargar of Winamac, Indiana, Cathy (Lewis) Mann of Logansport, Indiana, Sheri (Terry) Grether of Athens, Wisconsin and Rita (Chuck) Collins of Denham, Indiana, eighteen grandchildren, many great and great great grandchildren and one brother, Danny Whybrew of Syracuse, Indiana. She was preceded in death by two sons: Eric and Michael Hittle and three brothers: Eugene, Edward and Ernie Whybrew.

Friends will be received 10am till time of service at 1pm on Saturday, January 25 at the Braman & Bailey Funeral Home. Services will start at 1pm with Pastor Janet Begley officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in North Judson. Memorials may be made to Kid’s Closet in North Judson.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Bailey Funeral Home in North Judson.

STEPHEN MANUEL WOOD

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Stephen Manuel Wood, 34, died Saturday, January 18, 2025. He was born July 20, 1990 in Knox, Indiana to Charles Wood Jr. and Sharon White.

Stephen loved collecting Jordans shoes, fishing, watching Yellowstone, car races at Shady Hill and spending time with his family. He will be missed.

He is survived by one daughter, Madilynn Wood of Mishawaka, Indiana, his father and step mother Charles and Tricia Wood of Monticello, Indiana, his mother and step father, Sharon and Wendell White of North Judson, and siblings: Stephanie (Joshua) Yocum of Monticello, Adam (Danielle) White of North Judson, Dimitri (Gina) Rodriguez of West Lafayette, Indiana, Jacob White of Westville, Indiana, Nicole (Nick) Berry of Crystal Falls, Michigan, his grandmother, Donna Sowards of North Judson and his companion, Jennifer Howard of North Judson. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Betty (Minix) Sowards, Albert Miller and Charles Wood.

Friends will be received 10am till time of service at 1pm on Thursday, January 23 at Braman & Bailey Funeral Home, with Rev. Mac Howard and Rev. Eddie Trusty officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in North Judson. Memorials may be made to the family.

JEFF ANTRIM

KENTLAND, IN - FORMERLY OF FRANCESVILLE, IN - Jeff Antrim, 69, died Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. He was born March 18, 1955 in La Porte, Indiana to the late Russell Dean and Donna Joy (Leach) Antrim. On June 28, 2003, in Medaryville, Indiana, he married Pam Balough.

Jeff was an active member of River Church in Morocco, Indiana. He was a vital part of Winds of Revival, Faith Harvest Food Pantry, Clothing Closet and King’s Kids Senior Ministry. He was known for great stories and jokes, cool hats and shoes and sneaking candy to the kids before or after church.

He is survived by his wife, Pam, one son, Michael Antrim of Bryant, Alabama, one daughter, Stormie (Miguel) Rivera of Logansport, Indiana, six grandchildren, one sister, Sheila Wilson of Warsaw, Indiana and one brother, Kevin (Kim) Antrim of Rochester, Indiana and former wives: Evelyn Thomas and Frances Antrim. He was preceded in death by one son, James Russell Antrim, one infant grandson, Abram Michael Rivera, two brothers: Johnny and Russell “Rooster” Antrim and grandparents: Russell and Olive Leach Sr. and Amos and Florence Antrim.

Visitation from 1-3pm EDT on Saturday, March 15, at the Medaryville Assembly of God Church in Medaryville with a memorial service starting at 3pm EDT with Pastors Tom Dewlen and Josh Cowen officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Harvest Food Pantry and Clothing Closet or to the family c/o Pam Antrim.

MARGARET RITCHIE

GROVERTOWN, IN - Margaret Ritchie, 74, died Friday, January 17, 2025 in La Porte, Indiana. She was born April 9, 1950 in Salyersville, Kentucky to the late Clarence Brown and Jane (Prater) Zelinski. On October 16, 1971, in Knox, Indiana, she married Noah Ritchie. Margaret was a member of the United Baptist Church in Ober, Indiana. She loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Noah, one son, Bert Ritchie of South Bend, Indiana, one daughter, Judy (John) Kasten of Plymouth, Indiana, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two brothers: Larry Cappis of Logansport, Indiana and Jerry Cappis of Knox and two sisters: Edna Hatch and Patty Cappis, both of California. She was preceded in death by siblings: Dan Cappis, Jim Cappis, Henry Brown, Rosie Ferguson and Bonnie Beem.

Friends will be received 10am1pm on Wednesday, January 22, at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

JEANNETTE GERTRUDE WOBITH

MISHAWAKA, IN - FORMERLY OF NORTH JUDSON, IN - Jeannette Gertrude Wobith, 97, died Wednesday, January 15, 2025. She was born January 24, 1927, in San Pierre, Indiana to the late Raymond and Mary Anastasia Hine. In 1945, she married Frank H. Ono. In 1962, she married Dorwin E. Wobith. He died in 1976.

Jeannette loved her family very much. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, loved the Irish of Notre Dame and North Judson basketball and any sport her son, grandchildren or great grandchildren were involved in. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and spent countless hours volunteering for the American Legion Womens Auxiliary, North Judson-San Pierre Alumni and the North JudsonSan Pierre Committee on Scholarship Funds. She is survived by one son, Terrence (Cindy) Ono of Las Vegas, Nevada, one daughter, Genelle (Ken) Gappa of Mishawaka, five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one brother, Raymond F. Hine of Franklin, Indiana. she was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Lemke and two brothers: Bill and Larry Hine. Services were held Monday, January 20, at St. Peter Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Disease Research or St. Peter Lutheran Church.
