WALTER ALIVA GAINER
GROVERTOWN, IN - Walter Aliva
“Cowboy” Gainer, 79, died Thursday, November 14, 2024, in Knox, Indiana. He was born December 18, 1944, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Elbridge H. and Bethel M. (Pollock) Gainer.
Walter was an avid horse lover and found solace and joy with them. He retired from the railroad and worked for Conrail. He loved his family very much.
He is survived by his children: Laurie Mixon of Edgewater, Maryland, Terry (Kim) Gainer and Candice (Michael Barenle) Grisham, both of Plymouth, Indiana, Patrick Gainer of Los Angeles, California and Guy (Danielle) Gainer of Grovertown, eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one sister, Shirley Hitesman of Peoria, Illinois. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ann Marbach.
A celebration of life is being tentatively for Saturday, December 14. Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.
JAN McILVAIN
WINAMAC, IN - Jan McIlvain, 64, died Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born December 3, 1959, in Hobart, Indiana, to the late Jim and Janet (Strong) Hansell. On November 19, 1999, in Crown Point, Indiana, she married Rich McIlvain, Sr. He died November 24, 2023.
Jan enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially floating the river and camping with Rich. She also enjoyed reading books, listening to music, doing Indian crafts, attending the Feast of the Hunters Moon and Trail of Courage events. She loved her family very much.
She is survived by three sons: Zack Norris of Winamac, Andy Norris of Aurora, Illinois and Sam Norris of Melbourne, Australia, three step sons: Rich (Kay) McIlvain, Jr. and Ron (Lori) McIlvain, both of Medaryville, Indiana and Travis McIlvain of Winamac, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one sister, Jill Kloppenburg. She was preceded in death by one step daughter, Autumn McIlvain.
A celebration of life was held Sunday, November 24. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulaski Animal Center of the Pulaski County Public Library
Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
MILDRED “MILLIE” BAILEY
KNOX, IN - Mildred “Millie” Bailey, 95 years old of Knox, Indiana, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024 in Knox, Indiana.
She was born Friday, November 22, 1929 in Sessar, Illinois, Daughter of the late Andrew Goreloff and the late Mary(Planutius) Goreloff.
November 11, 1967, in Schereville, Indiana, Millie married James Bailey, he preceded her on June 6, 2012.
Millie enjoyed collecting knicknacks and watching birds, especially cardinals. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are Son, Kevin Bailey of Valparaiso, Indiana, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Bailey, daughter Karen Matlock, parents Andrew and Mary Goreloff and sisters Katherine Tretter, Margaret Ashe and Jenny Hnatko.
No services to be held, Braman and Son Memorial Chapel of Knox, Indiana is in charge of arrangements.
