KENNETH P. KATSCHKE

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Kenneth P. Katschke, 58, died Saturday, January 11, 2025 in Knox, Indiana. He was born January 7, 1967, in Winamac, Indiana, to the late Paul and Dorothy (Lizen) Katschke.

He is survived by one sister, Betty Hurlburt of Winamac and three brothers: Ray Katschke of Denham, Indiana, Bill Katschke of Rochester, Indiana and Norman Katschke of Winamac. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Hartman and eight sisters: Ruth Beiles, Janet Fisher, Marge Rowe, Carole Clemons, Shirley Patrick, Nancy Riley, Judy Howard and Beverly Vires.

No services to be held at this time. Memorials may be made to the funeral home.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

MEDARYVILLE, IN - Leonard A. Kats, 60, died Friday, January 10, 2025. Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Medaryville.

HOMER RAY BEEM

KNOX, IN - Homer Ray Beem, 63, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025. He was born September 16,1961 to the late Delbert and Ellen Barnett Beem.

On August 2, 1980, he married Anna Land.

Homer was a 1979 graduate of Knox High School and had worked at Alexander Chemical Corporation in Kingsford Heights for over 40 years.

He was a steadfast Teamster, who consistently voted to strike to both prove a point and engage in thoughtful collective bargaining outside.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, walking, hunting, playing banjo and he loved music with his favorite musician being Earl Scruggs. He loved to laugh and goof around.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, and children: Randi Ellen Beem of Charlotte North Carolina and Sinjin Pete Beem of Hove, England. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Glenda, Delbert “Pete”, Earl and Jay. Services were held Monday, February 3 at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel. Burial was in the Eagle Creek Cemetery in Knox. Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

SHARON M. KORNAS

KNOX, IN - Sharon M. Kornas, 74, died Saturday, January 25, 2025 in La Porte, Indiana. She was born August 30, 1950 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Raymond and Sophie (Sapyta) Kornas.

Sharon was a happy person who loved going to the circus. She attended Marshall Starke Development Center and Pathfinder Services. She was a follower of God and enjoyed the prayer and guidance provided by Rev. Bruce Bennett.

She is survived by her guardian, Melissa Speilman of Goshen, Indiana and three brothers: Tim, Larry and Steve Kornas. She was preceded in death by one sister, Marsha. No services to be held at this time. Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

WILLIAM WILLIAMS

NORTH JUDSON, IN - William Williams, 77, died Friday, January 24, 2025 in North Judson, Indiana. He was born December 21, 1947, in Chicago Heights, Illinois to the late Russell and Bonnie (Soakland) Williams.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Bobbie and Erving Williams and one sister, Wanda Kilburn. No services will be held.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Bailey Funeral Home in North Judson.

MARILYN HEWLETT

KNOX, IN - Marilyn “Sue” Hewlett, 90, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025 in Knox, Indiana. She was born August 21, 1934 in Kewanna, Indiana to the late Cecil and Benaldine (Lawhead) Rhody.

Sue was a member of the Eagle Creek Church, Knox Tri Kappa and former Girl Scout Leader. Se enjoyed sewing, bowling and spending time with her family. She had worked as a Food Manager for Starke County Council on Aging.

She is survived by one daughter, Kyle Satterfield of Knox, one son, Sean (Nicole) Hewlett of Crown Point, Indiana, four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and one sister, Jane Stahl of Wolcottville, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Hewlett and siblings: Dick, Don, Bill and Jerry Rhody and Ruth Eileen Tsetse.

Services were held Saturday, February 1, at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bruce Bennett officiating. Burial was in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox. Memorials may be made to donor’s choice.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

ROGER ALAN HANIFORD

WINAMAC, IN - Roger Alan Haniford, 81, died Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Hickory Creek @ Winamac in Winamac, Indiana. He was born December 26,1943 in Lafayette, Indiana to the late George Wesley and Frances Roberta (Wallace) Haniford. In 1990 in Winamac, he married Connie Hile. She died July 5, 2016.

Roger graduated from West Lafayette High School and earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Purdue University and he was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi. He was a beloved educator and coach with a career that spanned 37 years, starting at Star City High School and retiring from Winamac High School in 2004. He taught Drivers Education, Health and Physical Education and coached various high school teams, including the first ever Warrior football team and boys golf. He was instrumental in bringing a girls softball summer league to Winamac. Roger enjoyed supporting his grandchildren, attending family gatherings, going on fishing trips, going to the casino, hunting and shooting. He loved his family very much.

He is survived by two daughters: Kim (Chris) Schramm of Winamac and Andrea (Todd) Keller of Monterey, Indiana, one step daughter, Heather Hunter of Winamac, four grandchildren, one step granddaughter and one brother, David Haniford of Indianapolis, Indiana.

At Roger’s request, no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulaski Animal Center.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

STEVEN M. COLE

KNOX, IN - Steven M. Cole, 74, died Thursday, January 30, 2025. He was born June 16, 1950 in La Porte, Indiana to Israel and Louverna (Manns) Cole.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, two sons: Gary (Sandy) Brown and Robert (Tina) Brown, six grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, his mother, Verna, one sister, Diana (Thom) Overmyer and two brothers: Elvis (Lori) Cole and Mike Cole. He was preceded in death by one great grandson, Connor Baugh, his father, Israel and one brother, Rob.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 15, at 2pm CT at M.C. Smith Funeral Home.

Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home.

DAVID EDWARD

LUKAC SR.

NORTH JUDSON, IN - David Edward Lukac Sr., 74, died Friday, January 31, 2025 at his home. He was born December 1, 1950 in North Judson, Indiana. On February 15, 1975, he married Florance “Liz” Trenner. David was a 1968 graduate of North Judson-San Pierre High School. He retired from American Oak Preserving Company after 49 years of service working as the shipping manager. He enjoyed bowling, working in the yard, traveling, listening to music, especially The Beach Boys.

He is survived by his wife, Liz, four children: David (Jill) Lukac of Clemson, South Carolina, Tony (Renae) Lukac of Fishers, Indiana, Jessica (Matt) Madsen of San Pierre, Indiana and John (Jordan) Lukac of Danville, Indiana, eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and six siblings: Paul Lukac, Linda Trenner, Eddie Lukac, Patty Minix, Suzie Janik and Terry Marquardt.

Visitation from 10am-12pm CST on Thursday, February 6, at the O’Donnell Funeral Home with services immediately following. Burial will be in the St. Jacob Cemetery in North Judson. Donations may be made to the family to help with final expenses.

HARRISON RAY FIELDS

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Harrison Ray Fields, 81, died Thursday, January 30, 2025. He was born September 29, 1943 in Wooton, Kentucky to the late Dan and Sallie Browning Fields. On October 19, 1963 in North Judson, he married Shirley Pingel.

Harrison retired after 30 years at the North Judson Post Office as a letter carrier. He was involved in many community organizations including the Starke County Zoning Board, California Township Advisory Board, Round Lake Cemetery Board, 50 year member of the Knox American Legion and 40&8, Starke County Democrat Central Committee, Starke County Election Board, North Judson Town Police Auxiliary and the US Army Reserve. He enjoyed many summers in upper Wisconsin, fishing, gardening, wing Wednesdays at the casino and fish fry Fridays.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, one daughter, Paula (William) Voss, one son, Jeff (Susan) Fields, two granddaughters and one sister, Evelyn Dickerson. He was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Pulliam.

Services will be held Saturday, February 8 at 11am CT, with visitation two hours prior to services at St. Peter Lutheran Church, with Pastor Dan Speckhard officiating. Burial will be in the Round Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Round Lake Cemetery or to St. Peter Lutheran Church.

KENNETH EDWARD PFLEDDERER

La CROSSE, IN - Kenneth Edward Pfledderer, 87, died Friday, January 31, 2025 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Indiana. He was born April 18, 1937, in Brems, Indiana to the late Edward and Orpha (Pratt) Pfledderer. Ken graduated from La Crosse High School and served proudly in the US Army near Munich, Germany. He worked for 47 years as a Tool Finisher at the Ford Stamping Plant in Chicago Heights, Illinois. He was a longtime member of Shiloh Assembly of God Church in San Pierre, where he had served many years as their treasurer. He had a botanical garden which produced copious amounts of sweet corn, watermelons and sunflowers. He enjoyed fishing trips to Horseshoe Bend, Minnesota and Canada and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Karen (Stonecipher), his children: Kevin (Debbie) Pfledderer of Alabama, Kari (David) LaFaive of Plymouth, Indiana, Kurtis Pfledderer of Oregon, Kristina Ritchie of La Crosse and Dina Brown of Wanatah, Indiana, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and siblings: Barbara Wilson, Betty Brady and Jerry Pfledderer. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Pfledderer.

Services were held Tuesday, February 4 at Kosanke Funeral Home, with Rev. Ray Mackillop officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of Northwest Indiana. Arrangements were made by Kosanke Funeral Home in Kouts, Indiana.

CLINTON ROBERT HENNING

SURPRISE, AZ - FORMERLY OF NORTH JUDSON, IN - Clinton Robert Henning, 40, died Sunday, January 19, 2025. He was born July 9, 1984 in Knox, Indiana to Steven R. and Suzanne M. (Bradley) Henning. Clinton was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Growing u, he loved farming with his family and had a big interest in working on cars. He enjoyed music and being outdoors. The love he had for his family was unmatched. He is survived by his mother, Suzanne of Surprise, one brother, Corey Henning of Peoria, Arizona, two sisters: Kelsie (Derek) McDowell of Peoria and Karlie (Christopher) Davenport of Surprise, grandmothers: Marilyn Henning of Winamac, Indiana and Wilma Bradley of North Judson. He was preceded in death by his father, Steven and grandfathers: Carl Henning and Burley Bradley.

Services will be held March 1, at 11am MST at Atonement Lutheran Church in Glendale, Arizona.

STEVEN R. HENNING

SURPRISE, AZ - FORMERLY OF NORTH JUDSON, IN - Steven R. Henning, 60, died Saturday, November 18, 2023.

Steve was a hard worker beginning from a young age on the family farm in North Judson, Indiana and continuing with his career in Arizona. He enjoyed being outside in nature, spending time with his animals and his wife’s cooking. He loved his family very much.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne “Suzie” (Bradley), two sons: Clinton Robert Henning, Corey Steven Henning, Kelsie (Derek) McDowell and Karlie Marie Henning, three grandchidren and his mother, Marilyn Henning.
