The current and former advertisers, readers, current and former staff that have made this honor possible are greatly appreciated. What a pleasure it has been for The Market to be a member of the communities we have served for the past 41 years.

At the banquet Jerry Gurrado was presented with the prestigious Henry F. Schricker Award for service above self. The Above and Beyond awards were given to Renew U, Ober Abor Gleanors,The Point Drive-In, Starke County Libraries, The Town of North Judson.

REBECCA BAILEY

HEBRON, IN - Rebecca “Becky” Bailey, 86, died Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in Crown Point, Indiana. She was born June 22, 1938, in Garrett, Kentucky to the late Harvey and Roxie (Owens) Caudill.

Becky loved traveling, playing games and spending time with her family. She retired from Howmet Corporation in 2000.

She is survived by three sons: Lewis “Buddy” McCrammer, Joe McCrammer and Chuck (Darlene) McCrammer, eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, two sisters: Dotty (Ron) Dombrowski, Barb (Harold) Johnson, one brother, Corbin (Dorothy) Caudill. She was preceded in death by eleven siblings: Mary Catherine Caudill, Joe Caudill, James Curtis Caudill, Charlie Caudill, Harvey Prestin Caudill Jr., John Caudill, Kenneth Caudill, Raymond Gunells, Carl Gunells, Eugene Gunells and Clifford Caudill.

A memorial service was held Saturday, December 7, at Victory

Christian Church in Knox.

Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox, Indiana.

ROGER K. MANN

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Roger K. Mann, 63, died Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Methodist South Lake Hospital in Merrillville, Indiana.

Roger loved quiet times at home sitting on his front porch and riding his Harley. He was a carpenter and had professionally cleaned and polished floors.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Clemons, eight blended children, two brothers: Sherman (Brenda) Mann and Shaun (Trish) Mann and two sisters: Kathy (Marty) Banhey and Vicky (Steve) Heise. He was preceded in death by his parents, Powell Edward and Sylvia Sue Mann.

Services were held on Friday, December 6.

Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.

DAVID L. FORD

NORTH JUDSON, IN - David L. Ford, 81, died Friday, November 29, 2024, at his home. He was born July 15, 1943, in Gary, Indiana to the late Jack and Harriet (Jeramiah) Ford. In July, 1967, he married Irene Spargo.

David was a 1963 graduate of Gary Lew Wallace High School. He was retired from US Steel after 30+ years of service. Over the years his hobbies included working on vehicles and his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by two sons: Donald (Tracy) and Denny, both of North Judson, one daughter, Teresa Domonkos of South Haven, Indiana, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two sisters: Janet (Don) Arnold and Alice (Ron) Milner of Hobart, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, one son, David, his parents, Jack and Harriet Ford and one sister, Barbara Bartley.

Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.

THOMAS E. LIEDTKY

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Thomas E. Liedtky, 80, died Saturday, November 16, 2024. He was born April 6, 1944, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to the late Frank and Lydia (Schieman) Liedtky. On January 25, 1964, he married Shirley Faye Barnett. She died July 13, 2020.

Tom retired from Bethlehem Steel after a career of over 30 years. He enjoyed spending his mornings with his buddies having coffee and spending time with his grandkids. Over the years his hobbies included golfing, gardening, fixing old electronics, traveling, genealogy, attending Bluejay sporting events.

He is survived by one son, Thomas of Maurpas, Louisiana, one daughter, Lisa (Shawn) Minix of North Judson, three grandsons, three great grandchildren and one brother, William “Bill” Liedtky of Naples, Florida.

Services were held Thursday, November 21. Burial was in the Saint Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Denham, Indiana.

Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.

ARTHUR CHARLES NOVOTNY

FRANCESVILLE, IN - Arthur Charles “Art” Novotny, 93, died Friday, December 6, 2024, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. He was born July 8, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Charles and Katherine (Albrecht) Novotny. On February 10, 1952, in Francesville, he married Maxine Gutwein.

Art was a 1949 graduate of Francesville High School and an Associates degree from a business college in Lakewood. He was a member of the Francesville Apostolic Church. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served stateside during the Korean War. He worked in the family business, Novotny Furs, and established, owned and operated various businesses in Francesville and had served as Justice of the Peace.

He is survived by two daughters: Cathy (José) Cervantes of Tecate, Mexico and Mary Lyn (Bob) Milford of Fishers, Indiana, one son, Mark (Kristel) Novotny of Fishers, nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and siblings: Dr. Harold Novotny and Jane (Ralph) Krebs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, and siblings: Ruth Novotny, Adeline Gutwein and Ray Novotny.

Visitation from 4-8pm EST on Wednesday, December 11, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel. Services will be held at 10:30am EST, Thursday, December 12, at the Apostolic Christian Church, with Ministers of the Church officiating. Burial will be in the Roseland Cemetery in Francesville. Memorial contributions may be made to Parkview Haven Retirement Home or Little Hands Orphanage in Tecate, Mexico.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville.

KATHLEEN M. ROGERS

KNOX, IN - Kathleen M. Rogers, 72, died Friday, December 6, 2024 in Knox, Indiana. She was born April 1, 1952, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to the late Leroy and Charlotte (Plunket) Lang.

Kathleen enjoyed coloring, horseback riding and spending time with family. She had worked as a nurse’s aide.

She is survived by three daughters: Tina Casey of Knox, Erin Rogers and Jessie Main, both of Battle Creek, Michigan, three grandchildren, her companion, Phil Conyers of Knox and one sister, Shirley J. Hinchman Thornton of Starke, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Rogers and two brothers: Martin and Keith Roebuck.

No services will be held. Memorials may be made to the family.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.
