Over 250 lots and including art and antique reference works and auction catalogues, glass, ceramics, rugs, runners & carpets, silver and English & Continental furniture and decorative objects dating from the 17th century, Oriental works of art and objects, watches, jewellery and fine art.
Highlights include:
Lot 65, an oil on canvas laid down on panel, by Thomas Murray (1663-1735) is a striking portrait of a gentleman, reputed to be Sir Robert Shafto, est. £1,00-1,500 (+fees).
Lot 102, a 17th century silk needlework, gilt thread and drawnwork picture, probably Portuguese, depicting The Lamentation of Christ, est. £1,000-1,500 (+fees).
Lot 175, a collection of six large folio engravings by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, from Antichità romane, Vol. III, one of which features fragments from the tomb of Cecilia Metella, the mausoleum dates from the 1st century BC and is one of the best known and well preserved of the monuments located on the Via Appia. The Antichità romane was published in 1756-57, est. £400-600 (+fees).
Lot 195, a late 18th century silver pair cased verge watch, John Hondun, London, No. 3292, the case Samuel Priest, London 1780 together with a 19th century Black Forest watch stand, est. £320-380 (+fees).
Lots 210-213 and 215-219, a group of contemporary flatweave carpets and runners, several of which are in mid-century and Bauhaus style designs, in various sizes, estimates start from £300 (+fees).
Lot 228, White Relief (multiple, 1969), by Ben Nicholson O.M. (1894-1982), in white painted hardwood and carved in relief, est. £3,000-5,000 (+fees). Nicholson created his first Relief in 1933 and he continued to produce variants in this design throughout his career. The Nicholson Wall installed in the Water Gardens (designed by Jeffery Jellicoe) of Sutton Place, Woking, a 30-foot sculpture in Carrara marble, is based on one of his Reliefs and demonstrates how well the design works when scaled up to monumental proportions.
Lot 237, an early 20th century pearl and diamond bar brooch, with two principal pearls to the middle, and half pearls alternating with old brilliant-cut diamonds along the width of the brooch, est. £1,500-2,000 (+fees).
Lot 241, from the most stylish of design eras - an Art Deco platinum, mother-of-pear and seed pearl gentleman’s dress set, circa 1925, comprising a pair of cufflinks, four studs and two buttons, in a Mappin & Webb fitted case, est. £600-800 (+fees).
